If your Vimeo Livestream Studio broadcast is silent on YouTube, first check whether the silence affects every viewer. Then trace the sound from its source through Studio’s input and program output, into YouTube’s Live Control Room, and finally to playback. If only your headphones are silent while Studio meters move, that alone does not mean the stream is silent.
First find out who cannot hear the stream
Ask someone to check the live stream on a different device or network. This separates a stream-wide fault from a playback problem on one viewer’s device. Vimeo recommends checking whether all viewers have the same issue; individual network conditions can make playback differ between viewers (Vimeo Help Center).
- Only one viewer hears silence: Have them check mute and volume, the selected output device, and the browser or app. Try another playback device or network.
- Everyone hears silence: Check the source, Studio routing, encoder output, and YouTube ingestion in that order.
- Your headphones are silent but meters move: Check local monitoring separately before changing the outgoing stream.
If reports are mixed or the problem continues, capture player debug logs while the issue is happening. Do not include or expose your private stream key in screenshots or logs you share.
Trace audio through Livestream Studio
Confirm the intended input and channels
In Livestream Studio, inspect the intended source in the Inputs settings and Audio Mixer. Check that the microphone, camera audio, mixer, or audio-only input is selected and that its meter responds when sound is present. Studio supports per-input audio settings: stereo inputs can assign left and right channels to the input fader, while mono inputs can assign individual channels. Confirm that the assignment matches the connected source (Vimeo Help Center).

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If the device is missing, check that the operating system recognizes it and install any required driver. Studio can add an audio-only input from a supported system device; some devices require drivers (Vimeo Help Center).
Follow the signal to the program output
Watch the source meter and then the program mix. Vimeo identifies Stream Out / Record Out as the typical representation for monitoring program audio. If the input meter moves but the program output does not, inspect routing, mute buttons, and level controls before changing YouTube settings (Vimeo Help Center).

If Studio meters move but your headphones are silent
Local headphone monitoring is separate from stream and recording output. Check that your operating system is using the intended playback device, then check Livestream Studio’s headphone volume and source-monitoring buttons. Those buttons control what you hear locally; Vimeo says they do not stop audio from going to the stream or recording (Vimeo Help Center).
Verify audio in the YouTube preview or ask another viewer to check the broadcast. Do not diagnose outgoing audio from headphone silence alone.

Check YouTube’s stream health and audio settings
Open YouTube Live Control Room for the active event and read the stream health indicator and its specific messages. YouTube’s live-stream error guidance identifies missing or multiple audio streams, unsupported audio codecs, sample-rate errors, and audio with more than two channels as possible ingestion problems. For RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube expects a supported audio codec such as AAC or MP3 and one audio stream (YouTube Help: Live stream error messages).
YouTube’s current encoder recommendations for RTMP/RTMPS include AAC or MP3 audio, stereo at 44.1 kHz, and a 128 Kbps stereo audio bitrate (YouTube Help: Encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions). These are recommendations for the described setup, not a reason to change settings blindly: use the actual Live Control Room error and your encoder configuration to guide adjustments. YouTube publishes different sample-rate and bitrate recommendations for 5.1 audio, which it supports over RTMP/RTMPS only with AAC.

Confirm the event destination
Vimeo’s Studio-to-YouTube workflow uses the Stream URL and Stream Key supplied by YouTube. Make sure Studio is using the current destination details for the intended event, then check that event’s preview and health information. Vimeo says this workflow changed as of October 2024 to use YouTube’s RTMP Stream URL and Stream Key (Vimeo Help Center). Never publish your stream key; anyone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Use the encoder preview and local recording to narrow the fault
Check audio in the encoder itself and inspect a local recording or archive if available. YouTube recommends checking the stream directly in the encoder and reviewing the local archive for audio or video problems (YouTube Help: Troubleshoot live stream issues).

- The encoder preview and recording are both silent: Focus upstream on source capture, device selection, mixer routing, or encoder configuration.
- The encoder preview or recording has sound, but YouTube viewers do not: Check Live Control Room audio errors and the outbound connection.
This split is a diagnostic inference from YouTube’s guidance: a silent local output points toward the source or encoder, while a healthy encoder output shifts attention toward ingestion or connectivity.
Check the physical audio path and test one change at a time
Inspect connections only after checking the signal meters. Confirm cables are seated, undamaged, and appropriate for the connected devices, and check the equipment feeding the input. External microphones may require their own power or specific settings; Mic versus Line selection, sample rate, and cable choice can matter. Vimeo recommends checking cables and connected equipment, restarting the encoder, testing with as few components as practical, and removing and re-adding the audio source to establish a fresh connection. It also advises matching capture-device output settings, such as bitrate and sample rate, to encoder settings (Vimeo Help Center). Change one item at a time so you can tell which change affects the sound.
If the source and encoder sound healthy, check connectivity and escalate
If the encoder preview has audio but multiple viewers still receive silence, check outbound internet stability and the YouTube health messages. YouTube recommends checking outbound internet strength when encoder output looks and sounds healthy (YouTube Help: Troubleshoot live stream issues).
When contacting Vimeo support, include the encoder, operating system, and playback browser details, and capture debug logs while the problem is occurring (Vimeo Help Center). Keep stream keys and other private credentials out of support material.
