VibeLivre narrows a curated list of books by the kind of story you want, how long a book can be, and what you can spend. Its creator says a local version uses Gemma 3 4B to choose three candidates and explain the picks; ordinary code handles the constraints and reading plan. It is designed to make choosing feel easier, not to prove which book you will enjoy.
What VibeLivre does
Payal Yadav built VibeLivre for a friend who worried that one disappointing book might convince her she was not a reader. The project is aimed at people who feel stuck among too many choices, rather than readers seeking an exhaustive book database.

The creator describes a catalogue of around 150 books. Each entry records a title and author, approximate page count, cost, vibe tags, and a short spoiler-free hook. Readers provide a preferred genre or “vibe,” a maximum page count, minutes available per day, and a cost preference, including free availability.

- Filter: Python removes titles that do not meet the reader’s page-count and cost constraints.
- Score: The remaining titles are scored against the requested vibes and their hooks.
- Choose and explain: In the creator’s account of the local setup, Gemma 3 4B running through Ollama selects three books from the filtered catalogue and explains why they may suit the reader. It is not intended to search the internet or invent titles.
- Plan: Python also generates a simple reading plan using the reader’s available minutes per day. Streamlit provides the interface.
This division matters: the model’s suggestions are limited to titles already in the catalogue, while code applies the stated filters. That design does not, by itself, establish that the catalogue is complete or that a recommendation will match an individual reader’s taste.

Local version and hosted demo are different
Yadav says the full model experience runs on her laptop and uses Gemma through Ollama. She also says the hosted Streamlit demo does not run Ollama, and that the project README explains how to run the local version. The project write-up does not independently verify the demo’s current behavior, repository, or setup instructions, so treat these as the creator’s description rather than confirmed current deployment details.
What the example shows—and what it cannot show
In the creator’s example, her friend asked for an interesting short story that would not feel boring. VibeLivre suggested Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, How the Sea Became Salty by Sudha Murty, and A Christmas Carol. The friend chose How the Sea Became Salty, curious about how the sea becomes salty, and reportedly said the suggestions saved time.
