AI-assisted coding makes it easy to start a project and hard to get back into one. Jerry Wu’s answer, described in a first-person DEV Community article dated September 18, is RepoAtlas: an open-source desktop app that catalogs local project folders, saves and runs their commands, and searches the coding-agent conversations that produced the code. The article is the author’s account of his own tool. The product claims below are his, and they have not been independently tested.
The problem: generating folders faster than you can remember them
Wu’s starting point is a pattern many people who use AI coding agents will recognize. Each new idea becomes a new folder. Weeks later, opening one of those folders raises four questions at once: what was this supposed to do, how do I run it, where did I stop, and which tool holds the conversation that shaped it? That last question is the new part. The context is split across the project files and the chat history of Claude Code, Codex, or OpenCode, and none of those tools tie the two together for you.

The article’s underlying question is simple: how do you keep track of your side projects and the AI conversations that go with them? RepoAtlas is Wu’s attempt to answer it with a single local index rather than a better folder naming scheme.

According to the article, RepoAtlas covers three workflows. Each one maps to a specific gap Wu describes.
#1 Best Overall
- Confidently track and manage large jobs with ease
- Project ruling provides instant organization for notes, plans & deadlines
- Premium-weight paper is perforated to detach easily
- Snag-resistant coil and extra-strong back are perfect for notes on the go
- Gray, navy or maroon cover, 7-1/4" x 9-1/2", 84 sheets
1. Find a project
You select directories for RepoAtlas to scan, then search the resulting project library. Related work can be grouped together. The article stresses that grouping happens inside the app, so the folders themselves are not moved.
2. Get it running
For each project you save development, test, and build commands, then run them from the app. RepoAtlas keeps the command output and a history of runs, so the working invocation is not lost the next time you return.
Rank #2
3. Pick up the conversation
RepoAtlas searches your local coding-agent histories, lets you preview the relevant messages, and resumes a selected session. Wu says session search covers Claude Code, Codex CLI, and OpenCode. Resuming reopens the conversation in the agent where it started. It does not move a conversation from one tool to another.
How it gets set up and where your data lives
Two setup routes are described. The first uses an MCP integration, so an external coding agent can inventory the directories you approve and write project descriptions and reusable commands based on the files it finds. The second is manual setup. Either way, the commands and descriptions are only as accurate as the files they were drawn from, so it is worth reviewing them before relying on them.

On data handling, the author states that project records, task logs, and indexed session history stay on your machine. RepoAtlas has no account system. Your coding agents keep using their own accounts and model providers, which means RepoAtlas does not change what those agents send to their providers. These are the author’s statements. The article is not a security or privacy audit, and the code has not been reviewed here for those properties.
The app is built with Tauri and React and released under the MIT license. The article’s screenshots use fictional demo data, not real project histories.

Platform status: where it works and where it is still rough
Wu says he develops and tests mainly on Windows and does not own a Mac. The platform caveats are significant enough to drive the installation decision, so they are set out below as the article gives them.
| Platform | Status described in the article | Packaging and verification |
|---|---|---|
| Windows | Primary development and testing platform | Beta installers are unsigned and described as experimental |
| macOS | Experimental, not supported | Packages are untested on real hardware and not notarized |
| Linux | Not discussed in the article | Not stated |
Because the author’s own testing is Windows-focused and the macOS packages are experimental, treat the release as early software. Packaging, signing, and platform behavior may change in later releases.

Before you install: a practical checklist
- Confirm your operating system matches a platform with a published package. For macOS, expect experimental builds that have not been tested on real hardware.
- On Windows, expect unsigned beta installers. Your system’s download and SmartScreen warnings may appear; verify the source before you run anything.
- Choose the directories to scan deliberately. RepoAtlas indexes what you approve, so start with a folder you can easily audit.
- If you use the MCP route, review the descriptions and commands the agent writes before trusting them to run builds or tests.
- Check which coding agents you use. Session search is described for Claude Code, Codex CLI, and OpenCode only.
- Read the source and release notes on the project’s GitHub page (Wujerry/RepoAtlas) to confirm the current state of the code and any open platform issues.
How to judge any tool like this
The article does not compare RepoAtlas with other products, so it offers no competitive verdict. If you evaluate alternatives yourself, the useful questions are the ones RepoAtlas answers in its own description: does it catalog local folders without moving them, does it save and run each project’s commands, does it search and resume local agent sessions, and does it state where its indexed data is stored? A tool that cannot answer the last question clearly leaves you guessing about what is kept on disk.
Bottom line
RepoAtlas targets a real gap: the project, its run commands, and the agent conversation behind it are usually stored in different places. Wu’s approach is to keep those pieces in one local index, with session resume returning to the original agent. The software is open source under the MIT license, but the author describes it as early, Windows-first, and untested on macOS hardware. Use it to organize projects you can afford to test, and verify the platform and privacy details for your own machine before relying on it.
