To verify a seed-based provably fair result, check two things: the revealed server seed matches the hash committed before play, and the game’s documented algorithm reproduces the recorded outcome from that seed, your client seed, and the round’s nonce or other coordinates. Save those values before the seed changes; without the exact inputs and the correct game-specific mapping, a replay can give a misleading answer.
What to save for each round
Before the server seed is revealed or rotated, preserve the commitment and the round record. Capture the exact values and any game-specific details shown in the interface or history:

- The server hash displayed before the round or seed pair was used.
- The client seed and, if applicable, the seed version or rotation.
- The nonce and any cursor, round index, or other counter used by that game.
- The game mode, bet-specific parameters, and precise displayed result.
- A screenshot or exported history entry, if available.
Do not assume a nonce increments globally or resets in the same way across games. The Provable.IO implementation uses nonce and round values, but other systems can define different coordinates. Provable.IO’s core library and Provable.io’s security explanation describe their own implementation and workflow.
Verify the commitment and replay the result
- Keep the pre-game hash. Use the server hash saved before the relevant round, not a hash first shown after the outcome.
- Wait for the server seed reveal. Copy the exact revealed string, preserving capitalization and following the game’s stated encoding rules. In the cited seed-based design, the server seed stays secret while in use.
- Check the commitment. Calculate SHA-256 of the exact revealed server seed and compare it with the saved server hash, using the documented encoding. A mismatch means the revealed value does not match that commitment, provided both values were copied and encoded correctly.
- Recompute the outcome. Follow the game’s published algorithm or an auditable reference implementation. Use the saved client seed, nonce, cursor or round index, and all other required inputs.
- Compare the replay with the record. Check that the computed result matches the history entry for that same game and round. Keep the verifier output with the original record.
These are separate checks: the hash comparison tests whether the revealed seed matches the earlier commitment; the replay tests whether the disclosed inputs and algorithm reproduce the displayed result.

Why the game’s exact algorithm matters
“Provably fair” does not identify one universal construction. A verifier must match the specific game’s seed formatting, message structure, counter behavior, byte consumption, number conversion, and game-result mapping. A seed trio alone is not enough.
Example: Provable.IO’s documented implementation
In the Provable.IO core library, the server seed is committed with its SHA-256 hash. A draw uses HMAC-SHA256 with the server seed as the key and a message formed from clientSeed:nonce:round. The library describes deriving floats from four bytes at a time and integers from 32-bit values, with rejection handling for unbiased integer ranges. Treat these details as an example of that implementation, not a standard that every casino follows.

Implementation details to match
- Exact seed strings and encoding.
- The documented commitment hash and, for the draw, HMAC key and message order, including separators.
- Nonce starting point and increment behavior, plus any cursor or round usage.
- How output bytes become numbers, including range boundaries and any rejection or modulo rule.
- The game-specific transformation from a random value to a dice result, card, multiplier, position, or other outcome.
If any of these differ from the verifier’s assumptions, its result may not be meaningful. Use the operator’s current published specification or auditable reference code; do not transfer one game’s formula to another without confirming it applies.

Choose a verifier you can check
A game-specific or third-party verifier can make replay easier, while an open-source library or your own implementation lets you inspect and reproduce the calculation directly. Whichever route you use, check these points:

- Next-gen 12,000 DPI HERO optical sensor delivers unrivaled gaming performance, accuracy and power efficiency
- Advanced LIGHTSPEED wireless gaming mouse for super-fast 1 ms response time and faster than wired performance
- Ultra-long battery life gives you up to 250 hours of continuous gaming on a single AA battery
- Lightweight mechanical design and classic shape for maximum maneuverability, durability and comfort
- Compact, portable design with convenient built-in storage for included USB wireless receiver
- Does it support the exact game and seed format?
- Is its algorithm and source or methodology public?
- Is it independent of the operator, or is it the operator’s own tool?
- Does it check both the seed commitment and the outcome replay?
- Can you reproduce its output from the round record you saved?
ProvablyFair.org’s verifier workflow and published audit methodology describe its approach. A public tool can simplify the calculation, but its output is more useful when you can inspect its method and repeat the check yourself.
Some verifier interfaces show a commitment-only or pending state before seed reveal. For Provable.io’s service specifically, full verification requires replay with the revealed seed and a matching commitment; its verification page defines its own status labels. Do not treat that vocabulary as universal.

What a successful check does—and does not—show
A successful check shows that the revealed server seed matches the earlier hash and that replaying the disclosed algorithm with the recorded inputs reproduces the recorded outcome. It supports commitment consistency and deterministic reproduction for that round.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIt does not by itself establish that every round was recorded, that the live game used the published code, that the game’s rules are fair in a broader sense, or that an operator will honor a win. Those are separate questions; consider independent audits and the applicable operator rules rather than treating a successful replay as proof of every aspect of the service.

If the result does not match
- Confirm you saved the hash shown before play and paired it with the correct revealed server seed.
- Check for transcription errors, capitalization differences, and encoding requirements in seed values.
- Confirm the exact nonce, cursor or round index, game mode, and bet-specific parameters for that record.
- Verify that the tool uses the game’s documented algorithm, message order, counter rules, byte conversion, and outcome mapping.
- If the required specification is not public or the round record is incomplete, the mismatch cannot be diagnosed reliably from the seed values alone.
Keep the original record and the values used for the replay. A mismatch is a reason to check inputs and implementation details; it is not, on its own, proof of why the discrepancy occurred.
