How do the four options compare?
| Service | Best-documented workflow fit | What is established | What is not established here |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Veo 3.1 | Generating clips with sound and detailed visual guidance | Google describes native audio, reference images, camera controls, scene extension, first/last-frame transitions, and 1080p or 4K output. Google DeepMind’s Veo page | Whether each feature or output option is available through every access surface, region, or plan; current pricing and credit use. |
| Runway Creative | Generating and editing in a shared cloud workspace | Runway describes Creative as a workspace for generating and editing video, images, and audio; it also lists an API-oriented developer platform. Runway | Feature parity with Veo’s listed controls, specific model capabilities, current pricing, and credit use. |
| Kling | Not enough verified information to recommend a specific fit | It is a relevant comparison candidate. | Current official features, access, pricing, output limits, and availability were not verified. |
| OpenAI Sora | No longer a current option for new work through its former consumer or API experiences | OpenAI says the web and app ended April 26, 2026, and the API ended September 24, 2026. OpenAI Help Center | A current way to generate new work through those discontinued experiences. |
Choose by the work you need to do
Pick Veo when sound and shot direction matter
Google DeepMind describes Veo 3.1 as supporting native sound effects, ambient audio, and dialogue, alongside visual controls that include reference images, style references, camera direction, first-and-last-frame transitions, and scene extension. The page also describes object insertion and removal, character controls, motion controls, and outpainting. Those options make Veo the most explicitly documented choice in this comparison for someone who wants to guide a shot beyond a text prompt.

There is an important qualification for dialogue-heavy work: Google says natural and consistent spoken audio, particularly in short speech segments, remains an area of active development. Treat native audio as a capability, not a guarantee that every generated line will be usable without editing.

Pick Runway when you want generation and editing together
Runway’s own description of Creative emphasizes a cloud-based workspace that can generate and edit video, images, and audio. That makes it a natural candidate for creators who value a joined creation-and-finishing environment, rather than choosing solely on the basis of a model’s individual generation controls. Runway also lists Runway Dev as an API platform for production output; that is a distinct route for developers building with models and creative tools.
Hold Kling as an unscored candidate
Kling belongs in a shortlist if you are comparing AI video tools, but the current official features, access, and plans could not be substantiated here. Without that information, a precise recommendation based on duration, resolution, native audio, price, or regional availability would be guesswork. Check Kling’s current official product information before comparing it on those points.

Do not plan new work around Sora’s discontinued services
OpenAI’s Help Center dates the end of Sora’s web and app experiences to April 26, 2026, and the end of the Sora API to September 24, 2026. Both dates have passed. If you have existing Sora content or account data, use OpenAI’s discontinuation notice for its export, deletion, refund, and credits guidance.

What do Veo’s controls and output claims mean in practice?
Veo is available through several Google surfaces, including Gemini, Google Flow, Google Vids, Google AI Studio, the Gemini API, and Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, as listed on Google DeepMind’s product page. These are different ways to create or build with the model, not evidence that every Veo feature is present in every surface. The same applies to Google’s stated 1080p and 4K outputs: do not assume both resolutions, or every listed control, are offered by the particular product or plan you use.

- Edit your videos and pictures to perfection with a host of helpful editing tools.
- Create amazing videos with fun effects and interesting transitions.
- Record or add audio clips to your video, or simply pull stock sounds from the NCH Sound Library.
- Enhance your audio tracks with impressive audio effects, like Pan, Reverb or Echo.
- Share directly online to Facebook, YouTube, and other platforms or burn directly to disc.
Google also says Veo videos are marked with SynthID. For a production workflow, that is a relevant property to account for when planning how generated clips are identified and handled.

Google reports that Veo 3.1 led certain listed preference, alignment, and visual-quality comparisons on its Veo page, with results marked as last updated October 2025. The page describes comparisons involving 1,003 prompts from Meta’s MovieGenBench for text-to-video, 355 image-and-text pairs from VBench for image-to-video, and 527 MovieGenBench prompts for text-to-video-and-audio. These are sample counts for particular evaluations, not a universal quality score.

Those results are Google’s account of benchmark comparisons; they do not establish how Veo will perform on your footage, prompt style, editing needs, or delivery constraints. They also do not provide an apples-to-apples current comparison of Veo, Runway, Kling, and Sora. Use them as one data point, not as proof of a categorical winner.
Quick Recap
Best Value
What should you verify before choosing?
- Access: Confirm that the specific product surface is available in your region and account. Google lists multiple Veo surfaces, but availability and limits can differ.
- Feature availability: Check the selected surface for the controls you need, such as reference images, native audio, camera direction, or 4K output. A model-page feature list does not establish access in every interface.
- Cost: Compare current plan terms and any per-generation or credit charges directly. Current pricing and credit consumption were not established for all four services, so a price ranking would not be reliable.
- Finishing needs: Decide whether a unified generation-and-editing workspace, such as Runway describes for Creative, or a model with documented generation controls across several Google surfaces better fits your process.
- Availability over time: For a production dependency, verify that the service and interface you plan to use remain active; Sora’s listed web, app, and API experiences have ended.
