A common weapon evolution needs a fully leveled weapon, its matching passive item, and an eligible Treasure Chest—but there are exceptions.
How does a beginner run work?
You move through a stage, avoid enemies, collect experience gems and items, and use level-ups to improve your character’s attacks and bonuses. The important early decision is not to take every appealing weapon: each weapon you choose needs upgrades before it becomes more useful, so spreading choices too widely can leave you with several underdeveloped attacks.

Build a small offensive toolkit
Steam’s official beginner tips recommend starting with two or three offensive weapons and leveling them one at a time. Treat that as a useful starting point, not a mandatory build rule. Concentrating upgrades helps strengthen the weapons you already have instead of continually adding new ones.
Collect at a safe pace
Steam says gems and items do not disappear, so you do not have to risk taking damage to collect every pickup immediately. Prioritize staying alive, then circle back when it is safer. This advice applies to the gems and items covered by Steam’s beginner guidance; it should not be assumed to cover every special pickup or mode.

Experiment with power-ups
Steam suggests Armour and Luck as reasonable starting power-ups and says power-ups can be refunded for free. Try an investment, see whether it suits your run, and adjust if it does not. No single upgrade path is required for every player.
What is the difference between a weapon and a passive item?
A weapon is an active attack. A passive item provides a separate bonus and, in some cases, is also part of the requirement for evolving a weapon. Because a passive item can affect both your character and a possible evolution, consider what it does now as well as what it may unlock later.

When comparing weapons, think about practical fit rather than a universal ranking: how consistently an attack reaches nearby threats, whether it asks you to aim or position carefully, which passive item its evolution uses, and whether you want to spend a weapon slot leveling it. These are decision-making considerations, not results of comparative testing.

How do you evolve a weapon?
A common evolution pattern is to level a base weapon fully, carry its corresponding passive item, and then open a Treasure Chest that is eligible to award an evolution. The exact requirements can differ for special items, and not every weapon evolves. A chest does not guarantee that every weapon you own will transform.

Can you play with a controller?
