For more reliable turns in Vampire Crawlers, build a deck with a usable spread of mana costs, play eligible cards from low cost to high cost, and spend upgrades toward a clear plan. The goal is not to collect the strongest-looking cards; it is to draw cards that work together and can actually be played.
How to choose cards at a reward screen
Before adding a card, check what it does for the deck you already have. A powerful effect can still be a poor pick if it crowds a mana cost, lacks synergy, or is too expensive to play reliably.

- Does it improve the curve? Favor cards that fill a missing cost step or make an opening hand easier to use. The community Beginner’s Guide recommends keeping enough 0–1 cost cards to start chains, rather than loading up on expensive cards.
- Does it fit the crawler? Character and color synergy can be more valuable than a card’s standalone power, according to the community guide.
- Does it support a plan? Draw, mana, defense, scaling, and a planned evolution can justify a pick when they address a real need.
- Does it add clutter? Be wary of another card at an already crowded cost or an unrelated payoff that makes the pieces you want harder to draw.
A focused deck can make it easier to find intended pieces, but no reviewed source establishes a universally ideal deck size. Treat trimming as a way to protect draw quality, not a fixed-size rule. The fan-made guide index includes a deck-cleanup guide for this purpose.
What is Combo Stack and why is it important?
Combo Stack rewards sequencing: cards played in ascending mana-cost order can extend the combo and improve efficiency. Steven T. Wright’s Epic Games Store guide, published May 1, 2026, recommends starting with eligible low-cost cards and moving upward through the costs in your hand. If every drawn card costs the same, there may be no ascending sequence to exploit.
Use the order as a default, not an absolute. If a card effect, urgent defense, or survival need makes another play more valuable, take that line instead. A draw or setup card can also be worth playing early when it helps extend the chain or find a useful follow-up.
How to manage mana during a fight
In-battle mana is the immediate ceiling on how many cards you can play and how long a combo can continue. As Wright puts it, “Your mana count serves as the main ceiling for not only your combo, but your offense in general.” A finisher you cannot afford points to a curve or resource problem, not merely a damage problem.
Rank #2
When comparing two plays, consider both the card’s effect and what it leaves you able to play afterward. Low-cost setup can open a chain; expensive payoff is more useful when the turn has enough mana to reach it. The community Beginner’s Guide says unused mana is lost at turn end, but that page does not identify a game version, so check the current build’s rules rather than assuming this is unchanged.

Gems: bonuses attached to cards
The community FAQ describes gems as card-specific bonuses applied at the Blacksmith. Give them to cards that advance the build, and consider whether the target is likely to remain central as the deck changes. The FAQ does not state a version, so confirm the current options in-game. Read the community FAQ.
Gold and run cash-out: choose by your goal
Wright’s Epic guide says cashing out can be more cost-efficient when the main objective is permanent town upgrades. Sacrificing cards at optional devices may be useful when you need help during a run. The better choice depends on whether you are prioritizing lasting upgrades or immediate run support.

Health pickups: time them to the danger
Wright recommends saving a wall chicken when health is already high and considering it before a major floor boss. That is a situational tip, not a fixed timing rule: weigh the pickup against your current health and the risk ahead.

An evolution can justify planning several picks in advance, but do not let the target wreck the mana curve. Check the required weapon and item combination before investing heavily, then ask whether the supporting cards are still playable and useful on the way there.

Wright’s Epic guide says evolutions are generally stronger than individual cards with good gems. The fan guide index likewise emphasizes planning evolution targets without damaging the curve. Neither source establishes a universal priority, and requirements may vary with the current game version. The community FAQ says the Grim Grimoire records discovered combinations; use it to review what you have found.
A quick way to compare two picks
When two options both look useful, compare them against the needs of this run rather than choosing by raw power alone:
- Curve coverage: Which card fills a missing cost or gives you a more playable hand?
- Combo role: Which one helps start, extend, or finish a chain in the order you can afford?
- Build fit: Which one benefits the lead crawler’s color or supports the evolution you intend to pursue?
- Survival: Are you short on defense or healing for the encounter ahead?
- Resources and opportunity cost: Does it improve draw, mana, scaling, or gem support enough to warrant adding another card?
These are decision criteria, not guarantees of a better outcome. The current patch was not confirmed by the cited guides, and their exact card values and effects should be checked in-game.
