For practical purposes, this guide treats “Vagante cheats” as unlock conditions, hidden mechanics, and tactical shortcuts: how to reach the Factory, survive the Rust Fiend, and earn durable unlocks.
How to reach the Rust Fiend
The Rust Fiend is the boss of the Factory, a side area in the Rift. The Factory entrance is on Rift level two and requires a Treasure Key to open, according to the Official Vagante Wiki’s Factory page. The Factory also contains a Rune Orb that provides 2 LCK.

How to defeat the Rust Fiend
The community-maintained Rust Fiend page lists the boss at 425 HP. It waits at the bottom of the Factory until you enter its arena. The encounter begins with two Mechanical Spiders and electrical charges, and the boss can use Static Discharge, Electric Laser, and Headbutt.

Prepare for the arena’s electricity
The floor and ceiling tiles conduct electricity upward through the platforms, so the arena itself can be hazardous. The wiki recommends watching the electrical charges, bringing four electricity/lightning resistance if available, and using a bow where possible. These are community-wiki recommendations, not a guaranteed strategy or a tested ranking of builds.

Avoid getting trapped by Headbutt
Headbutt deals damage, knocks you back, and briefly stuns you. The wiki warns that the knockback and stun can combine into a repeated hit loop. If playing a Knight, it specifically advises against using Reflex Stance against this attack. Prioritize reading the boss’s movement and keeping a safe position rather than relying on a single defensive ability.
Choose between ranged play and resistance

Which Vagante unlocks are worth pursuing?
The wiki’s unlockables list ties many backgrounds to progression levels, class-specific game completions, or specific boss victories. Backgrounds can provide benefits with trade-offs, so an unlock is not automatically an upgrade for every character.

Progression-level backgrounds
- Wildling is listed at progression level 3.
- Hound Master is listed at progression level 18.
- Acolyte backgrounds are listed at progression levels 24 and 25.
Class and boss completion rewards
The unlockables list includes backgrounds for beating the game with a Knight, Rogue, Mage, Wilding, or Houndmaster. It also lists Tinkerer for defeating the Vine Lord. Check the listed condition for the specific background you want; these are distinct routes rather than one universal completion reward.
Hard Mode and Workshop
The unlockables page lists Hard Mode as unlocked by completing the game on normal difficulty. Nuke Nine’s June 3, 2019 Steam announcement for update 1.05.0 confirms that the update added unlockable Hard Mode, Steam Workshop custom-level support, and Steam achievements. It describes Hard Mode as adding new boss variants, champion versions of normal monsters, and respawning enemies; this is a historical announcement, not a current patch note.

What “secrets” means in Vagante
The developer FAQ describes secrets as spread across floors and embedded in hidden mechanics, but it does not provide a complete secret-by-secret list. It also characterizes unlockables as condition-based, with many backgrounds offering both benefits and trade-offs. That supports exploring carefully and pursuing named unlock conditions, but not claiming there is a single exhaustive secret route.
The FAQ was last edited in 2016, so treat its broad description as context rather than a complete guide to the current game. The specific unlock conditions above come from a community-maintained wiki and have not been independently verified against a current game version.
