Stunlock’s 2024 official-server announcement states that every server eventually resets and that each server has a cap of 60 players. A reset removes the server’s shared world progression, so your castle, equipment and unlocked abilities do not remain available there afterward. Think of an official server as a season with a finite lifespan, not as an always-on home.
That seasonal design makes your first choice important. A server that opened recently gives you more time before its scheduled wipe and normally reduces the gap between a new player and established castles. A high-population world can feel active, but it may also mean more competition for building locations and resources.

How to choose an official server in the browser
- Open the in-game server browser before creating your character. Server-bound progression means the choice cannot be casually changed later.
- Set the appropriate region. Prefer a region geographically close to the majority of your group to reduce latency and make scheduled play easier.
- Inspect the opening date or age. Favor a newer listing when you want a full progression season or a long building project. Static launch lists become stale, so check the live listing rather than relying on an old guide.
- Read the complete rule label. “PvE,” “PvP,” “Duo,” “Trio,” “Squad,” “Weekend Raids,” “No Raids,” “Daily Raids” and “Merciless” each change what you can expect.
- Check current population. A nearly empty world may be peaceful but can feel less social; a crowded one may have fewer uncontested plots. Choose based on the experience your group wants, not on population alone.
- Compare the reset horizon with your plans. Do not commit to a large castle build on a server that is close to its scheduled reset.
If the browser does not show a clear opening date, treat the listing as uncertain and choose another server whose age and remaining season are easier to establish.
Official server types and reset schedules
Stunlock publishes server categories with different reset intervals. These are policy categories, not a promise that every category is available in every region at every moment.

Stunlock says it intends to open additional servers partway through a reset cycle so players can find worlds with meaningful time remaining. Nevertheless, verify the individual listing yourself. A one-month PvP season is a poor fit for an architectural project; a six-month PvE season is more suitable for learning, decorating and gradual expansion.
PvE or PvP for a first character?
Choose PvE when learning is the priority
PvE removes attacks from other players while you learn weapon abilities, gathering routes, castle placement, blood management and V Blood boss patterns. It lets you practice the day-and-night rhythm without wondering whether another clan will interrupt a resource run or siege your castle. For a solo player or a group playing its first serious run, PvE Cooperative is the most forgiving environment.
Choose PvP when conflict is the point
PvP adds contested territory, ambushes and the need to defend your castle around the server’s raid rules. Make sure the group-size label matches your party: Duo, Trio and Squad are not interchangeable. Then check whether the world uses Weekend Raids, No Raids or Daily Raids. “No Raids” still describes a PvP server, while “Merciless” indicates full loot and a much harsher loss penalty.

Do not join PvP hoping it will simply be a busier version of PvE. The schedule determines when your castle can be attacked, and your group must be available to defend it during those windows. If nobody wants that obligation, PvE is the better choice.
Which difficulty should you select?

Normal is the sensible default for a new vampire because it teaches the intended combat, travel and resource cadence. Relaxed is reasonable if your group primarily wants to build and explore. Stunlock explicitly recommends Brutal only for vampires who have already experienced the full breadth of Vardoran at least once; the additional loot does not remove the need to understand boss mechanics and survival timing.
A first-session survival plan
1. Commit to the server before making the vampire
Progression is tied to the server where the character was created. Confirm the region, rule set, group size and reset timing first, then create the character. This avoids spending several sessions on a world that does not suit your group.

2. Use daylight as a timetable
Sunlight is an active hazard, not background scenery. The official game description emphasizes that vampires gain power after dusk and should use nighttime to gather blood and resources. Plan exposed travel and difficult fights for darkness when possible. During the day, move between shade, use covered routes and avoid beginning a long crossing without a safe shelter in reach.

3. Establish a practical first castle
Place your initial castle where storage, crafting stations and common travel routes are close together. Prioritize walls, a defensible entrance and enough room to expand. Early hours spent on decoration can leave you without the crafting throughput or protection needed for the next progression gate. You can redesign once the core rooms and resource loop are working.
4. Prepare before every V Blood attempt
- Carry repair materials so a damaged weapon or armor piece does not fail during the fight.
- Bring healing consumables and arrive with a blood source of useful quality.
- Study the route and identify shade or retreat points before engaging.
- Keep an exit plan for a failed attempt; surviving with partial progress is better than forcing a low-health fight.
5. Keep travel and storage efficient
Store frequently used materials near the stations that consume them, and return from gathering trips before daylight traps you in open terrain. Efficient loops reduce exposure and leave more time for boss attempts and castle upgrades.

6. Recheck the reset date before major construction
As the season advances, compare the remaining server life with the time your project needs. Continue building on a six-month PvE world with plenty of time left; scale back ambitions or move to a newer listing when a reset is close. Remember that moving servers means starting over rather than transporting the finished castle.
Can you transfer a character to another official server?
No. In a July 2025 support article, Stunlock states: “At this time, character transfers between servers are not supported in V Rising.” Progression, gear, castle and unlocked abilities remain attached to the server where the character was created. The same Steam or PlayStation account can be used on another server, but it does not bring the old vampire’s progress with it.
That rule applies when switching because of ping, population, a bad ruleset choice or an approaching reset. Plan on creating a new vampire and rebuilding. Advanced save-file copying may be technically possible for some private-hosting arrangements, but Stunlock describes it as unsupported, potentially unstable and unavailable on official servers.
When a private or dedicated server is a better fit
Use a private game when the official season length, raid schedule or difficulty does not match your group. Stunlock’s Advanced Game Settings allow hosts to adjust multipliers such as health, power and blood drain, as well as hazards including garlic, silver and sunlight. A private or dedicated world can also provide a more controlled community and a ruleset designed around your play schedule.
Private settings are separate from official-server labels, so document changes for everyone before the first session. If you choose a dedicated host, verify its current game compatibility, region, pricing and support directly; those details can change independently of Stunlock’s official rules.
Common mistakes and the fix
- Joining the first search result: inspect age, population, region and reset interval before committing.
- Choosing PvP without reading the raid line: confirm Weekend, No Raids or Daily Raids and the group-size limit.
- Starting Brutal as a first-ever run: use Normal unless you already know the bosses and progression routes.
- Building a permanent-looking castle near a wipe: check the remaining season before investing in a large design.
- Assuming an account-level transfer exists: official progression does not move between servers; plan a restart.
- Ignoring the sun: schedule exposed gathering and travel around shade and nightfall.

The safest starting decision remains a new official PvE Cooperative server on Normal. Once you have completed a full progression cycle and understand how Vardoran’s nights, bosses and resources fit together, Brutal or scheduled PvP becomes a deliberate challenge rather than an avoidable source of frustration.
