Google documents a limited offline mode for Gemini on the Pixel Watch 5. It can handle basic watch actions without an internet connection, but that does not mean every Gemini question or online feature works offline.
What you need
- A Google Pixel Watch 5. Google documents Offline Gemini for this model only.
- Google Gemini for Wear OS version 1.36 or later. Update the app in the Play Store on the watch.
You do not need an LTE connection for the documented offline mode. LTE is a separate option for using connected features away from your phone.

How to use Gemini without internet
- On the watch, open Settings and turn on Airplane Mode.
- Make sure Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are off.
- Start Gemini on the watch and ask it to perform a basic device action.
Google’s examples include “Set a timer for 15 minutes,” “Turn on Water Lock,” “Open Maps,” “Start my run,” and “Skip this song.”
What Gemini can do offline
Google’s documented examples cover common watch controls and actions:
#1 Best Overall
- The Google Pixel Watch 4 is a stunning display of precision craftsmanship, with Gemini, your built-in AI assistant, Google’s longest-lasting battery, and comprehensive tools for next-level health and fitness performance[1,2,3,4]
- See it all and do the most with the Actua 360 domed display; it’s 10% larger and 50% brighter than Pixel Watch 3, and as durable as ever with scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass[1]
- The Google Pixel Watch 4 has Gemini built in[4]; just ask questions and your ultra capable AI assistant will deliver quick responses for personalized help; and stay connected when you’re texting with AI-powered quick replies that are hyper-relevant[5,6]
- Get up to 30 hours of battery life or up to 48 hours in Battery Saver mode[3]; plus, the new side charging dock gives you 15 hours of battery in 15 minutes or less[7]
- Train smarter with 40+ exercise modes and real-time stats on your wrist[8]; and with high-precision dual-frequency GPS, you get more accurate route tracking on runs and hikes[1]
- Set a timer or alarm.
- Toggle Water Lock or change a setting, such as Wi-Fi.
- Open apps such as Keep Notes, Maps, or flashlight.
- Start workout tracking.
- Control music, including skipping a song or raising the volume.
What offline mode does not establish
Offline Gemini is not a general-purpose, internet-free version of the full assistant. Google’s examples establish basic device actions; they do not promise that every question, online-information request, or action involving a connected app will work without internet. Google advises: “Check responses for accuracy; results may vary.”
Pairing is also distinct from offline use. Google says initial setup requires a compatible Android phone running Android 12.0 or later. LTE connectivity may let a watch use connected features away from its phone when activated with a compatible carrier, but Google’s offline-mode instructions instead turn off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
