Before publishing, add original value, check every factual claim against reliable sources, and review the post and its metadata. Google does not impose a categorical ban on AI-assisted content; its guidance focuses on whether a page is useful, original, accurate, and made to serve people.
What AI should—and should not—do in a blog workflow
AI is most useful when you give it a bounded task and verified material to work with. It can help sort notes, suggest research questions, organize sections, or turn supplied information into a rough draft. Its fluency does not establish that a statement is true: Google warns that generative output can contain inaccuracies and says manual fact-checking and review are critical before publication.

The writer’s job is to make the post worth reading: bring in original reporting, relevant first-hand experience, analysis, examples, and practical detail. A draft that merely rearranges familiar material or repeats generic claims may be polished, but polish alone does not make it useful.

Define the reader’s task
Write down who the post is for, the question it answers, and what a reader should be able to do after reading it. Use that purpose to reject tangents and filler. Google’s people-first guidance asks whether content serves an intended audience and helps readers accomplish their goal: Google’s people-first content guidance.

Collect source material and verify it yourself
Use AI to organize notes or suggest what to investigate, but open the underlying sources and retain their names, dates, and links. For important claims, seek the most authoritative available source. Do not treat a confident answer or summary as verification. Google’s guidance on generative AI content explains the need for accuracy and review: Google Search’s guidance on generative AI content.
-
Ask for an outline, then judge the structure
Have the tool propose a sequence, missing subquestions, or alternative explanations. Check whether the outline answers the reader’s actual question rather than simply echoing the structure of common articles. Google recognizes research and structuring as possible uses of generative AI, but the finished page still needs meaningful value.

Draft from verified inputs
Give the model your confirmed facts, intended audience, and the points that require your own reporting or judgment. Treat the result as editable source material. Add your own examples and analysis; remove unsupported claims and details that do not help the reader.

Fact-check each claim and the supporting details
Check names, dates, definitions, quotations, statistics, product details, and advice against reliable sources. Correct or remove claims you cannot support. Review titles, meta descriptions, structured data, and image alt text too; these can carry errors just as body copy can.
-
Edit for clarity and usefulness
Remove repeated points, generic transitions, and awkward phrasing. Make the piece sound like your publication, and add concrete information that helps readers finish the task. Google says it has no preferred word count; length is not a substitute for answering the question well.
-
Review byline, disclosure, and accountability
Use accurate bylines and credentials; do not invent a human author or experience. Consider explaining AI’s role when readers would reasonably want to know how the post was made. An editor should approve and stand behind the final claims: AI assistance does not transfer responsibility to a tool or detector.
Does Google prohibit AI-written blog posts?
No. Google says appropriate use of AI or automation is not against its guidelines. Its concern is the purpose and value of the content: using automation primarily to manipulate rankings is against spam policies, and producing many pages without meaningful added value may fall under its scaled-content-abuse policy. See Google’s explanation of AI-generated content and Search alongside its newer generative AI guidance.

When should you disclose AI assistance?
Use disclosure to give readers context when it would help them understand how the post was produced—for example, when AI played a substantial role in reporting or drafting and the process is relevant to their trust in the piece. Google advises considering whether readers would reasonably want that information, but the cited guidance does not prescribe one universal disclosure sentence. Describe the tool’s role accurately rather than implying that AI verified claims or supplied first-hand experience.
Can an AI detector prove who wrote a post?
No. A detector’s result or a model’s self-assessment is not proof of authorship. OpenAI says ChatGPT cannot reliably identify whether it generated a passage and may make up an answer when asked. Its provenance signals can indicate likely origin, but they do not prove who authored or owns text, how much AI contributed, whether disclosure was required, or who is legally responsible. See OpenAI’s explanation of asking ChatGPT whether it wrote something and OpenAI’s overview of content provenance.
