A USB DSD DAC is a digital-to-analog converter that connects over USB and can receive and convert DSD audio. A USB connection by itself does not mean a DAC supports DSD: the specific input, supported DSD rates, host device, playback software, and transmission method must all be compatible.
What does DSD mean on a DAC?
DSD stands for Direct Stream Digital, a digital audio format that represents audio as one-bit pulse-density modulation. It is associated with Super Audio CD and is also used for computer-based playback. XMOS describes standard DSD as a one-bit stream sampled at 2.8224 MHz. That rate has a data-rate equivalent to 16-bit PCM at 176.4 kHz; the comparison describes bandwidth, not a conversion of DSD audio into PCM. XMOS USB Audio documentation

Can you play DSD files through USB?
Yes, if the complete playback chain supports DSD. The DAC must accept DSD through the input you plan to use, and the computer or portable player and playback application must be able to send it using a transport method the DAC recognizes. PCM support or the presence of a USB port alone is not proof of DSD compatibility. XMOS states that a DSD-capable DAC is required. XMOS USB Audio documentation
How do Native DSD and DoP differ?
| Transport | How it carries DSD | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Native DSD | In the XMOS implementation, DSD is sent as raw data using a USB Audio format and alternate setting. | Confirm that the DAC, operating-system driver, and playback application support Native DSD. XMOS documents driver support for its implementation; requirements vary by product and host. |
| DoP (DSD over PCM) | DSD data is packaged inside PCM frames with marker bytes. A compatible DAC detects the markers and recovers the DSD stream; the DSD content is not converted to PCM. | Confirm that the host software and DAC support DoP, and that the output stays bit-perfect. Volume adjustment or other audio processing can corrupt the stream. |
XMOS documents alternating 0x05 and 0xFA values in the DoP marker byte. This packaging lets a PCM-oriented USB audio path carry DSD, but it does not make an ordinary PCM-only DAC DSD-compatible. XMOS USB Audio documentation

- USB supports MQA:1.Clean up the recording 2.Encapsulate the sound
- Support MQA CD:CD Player + MQA- Enabled DAC,Your CD player's digital output (optical or coaxial) can be fed to an MQA de coder. The MQA decoder can restore the original high-resolution signal heard in the studio and confirm it, using the authentication signature.SMSL SU-1 support MQA CD.
- AKM AK4493S :SU-1 utilizes the latest AKM DAC chip,AK4493S, for achieving a distortion lower than 0.00013%
- USB In:Compatible with Windows 7/8/8.1/10/11 (driver is required),Mac 0S X10.6+, Linux(driverless), Android, i0s
How to check whether your setup supports DSD
- Check the exact DAC input. Look for DSD support listed for the USB input you intend to use, not just somewhere in the product specifications.
- Match the supported rate. Compare the DSD rate of your files with the rates supported by the DAC and playback application.
- Match the transport method. Check whether both the player and DAC support Native DSD, DoP, or the specific method you plan to use.
- Check host and software requirements. For Native DSD, confirm the DAC-specific driver, operating-system, and player requirements. For DoP, select a compatible output mode and keep the signal bit-perfect.
- For portable players, verify the cable or adapter. The required connection can vary by DAC. Astell&Kern’s guide warns that its included Type-C cable is for data transfer or charging and says a dedicated cable may be needed for USB audio output. Astell&Kern support FAQ
Why the USB input matters: manufacturer examples
Format support can differ between inputs on one device. Sony’s UDA-1 Help Guide lists DSD at 2.8 MHz and 5.6 MHz through USB-B, while its front USB-A input is listed for PCM only: 16-bit PCM up to 48 kHz. Sony UDA-1 Help Guide
The Korg DS-DAC-100 product page lists DSD playback at 2.8224 MHz and 5.6448 MHz. Korg’s FAQ says the model does not support DoP and requires a player supporting ASIO 2.1 DSD for Native DSD playback. These are model-specific manufacturer specifications, not a general statement about other DACs. Korg DS-DAC-100 product page Korg support FAQ

- 👍 Up to DSD256 and PCM384 ▶️ TOPPING D10s USB DAC is compatible with 16-32bit/44.1-384kHz and DSD64 - DSD256(support both Dop and Native) If you need a DSD configuration guide, please contact the seller HIFI COLLEGE.
- 👍 XMOS XU208 and Customized Driver ▶️ TOPPPING D10s DAC use XMOS XU208 for USB interface and use customized driver which from Thesycon for better compatibility with high resolution audio file especially DSD native. And use ESS ES9038Q2M to make THD+N as low as 0.0002%@1kHz
- 👍 Automatic Power On/Off ▶️ Although the USB port support power after PC has shutdown,D10s still will synchronously power on/off with PC
- 👍 Replaceable OP ▶️ It has OP amp socket,DIYer could change the OP amp to get different sound.Notice:D10's electrical parameters will change if use other OP
- 👍 Multiple Applications ▶️ ①Connect TOPPING D10s to your active speakers.D10s Provide not only DSD and higher-specification PCM compatibility but also a better sound quality than your computer's built-in sound card or a regular DAC;②You can connect D10s's line out to your amplifier/headphone amplifier's input to make D10s one part of your HIFI system;③You also can connect D10s's coaxial/optical output to your DAC, then D10s serve as a USB interface
Astell&Kern’s portable USB audio guide describes output options that send DSD as PCM or DoP to an external DAC. That example illustrates why both the player’s output setting and the receiving DAC’s capabilities matter. Astell&Kern support FAQ

Does DSD support mean better sound?
No sound-quality conclusion follows from the label alone. It tells you that a device can handle a format under specified conditions; it does not establish that DSD inherently sounds better than PCM. The technical documentation and product specifications cited here describe format handling, not a controlled comparison of listening quality.

- 👍 Supports high-resolution audio ▶️ TOPPING E30 II uses two sub-flagship AK4493S chips of AKM's VELVET Sound technology. AK4493S is an upgraded version of the previous AK4493. Two AK4493S in parallel can achieve better performance and reduction ability than a single chip.
- 👍 Coaxial and Optical also has good performance ▶️ The optical and coaxial input of E30 II supports up to 24bit192kHz audio, which is suitable for digital turntables, disk players, set-top boxes, and game consoles, so that traditional equipment can also give a new sound. The Digital Processing module provides better compatibility than the E30.
- 👍 5V power supply, anytime and anywhere ▶️ E30 II uses DC5V for power supply, which can easily access almost everywhere. You can power it up by USB port of PC, mobile phone charger or even a power bank. The built-in protection circuit will protect the E30 II and prompt on the screen after connecting to the wrong power supply.
- 👍 Discrete LNRD ▶️ How to solve the noise problem of 5V power supply? The E30 II's answer is the Discrete LNRD circuit (low noise reference driver). The Discrete LNRD circuit filters out the noise of various 5V power input and provides stable power supply of ultra-low noise reference level for E30 II. With this technology, the noise floor of E30 II is lower than 1 .5uV.
- 👍 Pure DAC & DAC+Preamp application ▶️ E30 II is able to fix to maxmum output level so that it can be worked as a pure DAC. E30 II has built-in volume control function that can adjust the volume from -99dB to 0dB by using the remote control, so you are able to directly connect E30 II to power amplifier or active speakers, and control the volume of E30 II through remote control.
