No. USB-C is a connector type; MHL is an audio-and-video technology. MHL can work through a USB-C port using MHL Alternate Mode, but only when the device supports that mode. A USB-C-shaped socket by itself does not confirm MHL support—or any video output.
What USB-C and MHL mean
USB-C describes the reversible connector used by a cable or device port. MHL, or Mobile High-Definition Link, describes a technology for carrying audio and video. Because they refer to different things, the terms are not interchangeable: a technology such as MHL may use a USB-C connector, but the connector does not tell you which technology a device supports.

Does a USB-C port support MHL or video?
Not necessarily. USB-C ports can support different capabilities, and the device must implement a video-output mode for a wired display connection to work. Check the documentation for the exact phone, tablet, or computer model; do not infer video support from the port’s shape or USB data-speed labels.

USB-IF notes that USB-C is used as an external display connector on many host products, but that does not mean every USB-C port provides display output. USB-IF: USB4
MHL Alternate Mode and DisplayPort Alternate Mode are different
MHL Alternate Mode and DisplayPort Alternate Mode are separate protocols. MHL explicitly warns that adapters for the two modes are not interchangeable. A DisplayPort Alt Mode adapter cannot be assumed to work with an MHL source, and an MHL adapter cannot be assumed to work with a DisplayPort Alt Mode source. MHL Consortium: USB Type-C

DisplayPort over USB-C can be adapted to HDMI and other display interfaces when the source supports that mode and the adapter is compatible. VESA: DisplayPort over USB-C

Only if the source device supports the video mode the adapter expects. Many USB-C-to-HDMI adapters are designed for DisplayPort Alt Mode; an MHL adapter is for an MHL-capable source. Match the source’s documented mode to the adapter, then check that the display has a compatible input. A USB-C dock with HDMI follows the same rule: its extra ports do not make an unsupported host video mode work.

Check compatibility before connecting
- Identify the exact source model. Use its manufacturer documentation, not just the connector’s appearance.
- Find its documented video-output mode. Look for an explicit statement such as DisplayPort Alt Mode or MHL Alt Mode. If video output is not specified, do not assume it is available.
- Match the adapter or dock to that mode. Confirm the product supports the source’s protocol; MHL and DisplayPort Alt Mode adapters are not interchangeable.
- Check the display connection. Confirm that the adapter’s output matches an available display input. MHL describes adapter or dock paths to HDMI, DVI, and VGA for compatible MHL sources.
- Confirm the required resolution and refresh rate. Check that the source, adapter, cable, and display all support the combination you need.
There is no model-specific compatibility answer without the exact phone or computer and adapter. The protocol and the destination input both matter.
