Unwrapped turns a song into a 3D space where its instruments become objects to explore. You can move among them, switch them on or off, carry them, and apply effects—making questions like “Which sound was the bass? Why did the voice sound far away? What made the chorus hit harder?” something to investigate by listening and experimenting.
What you can do in Unwrapped
Project author Lluis Estape describes Unwrapped as a browser game built for Tripothon S1, which the project article identifies as Tripo’s world-building hackathon. In the experience, instruments from a song appear as objects in a 3D landscape. Players can walk around them, activate or silence them, carry them, and alter their sound with effects.

Each instrument part, or stem, is presented as its own sound source. Estape says the game uses spatial audio so the perceived mix changes as the player moves and turns. Headphones are his recommendation: “If you try it, put headphones on: the spatial audio is half the game.”

How the song becomes a landscape
According to Estape’s account, the process begins with an MP3. The project separates it into parts—drums, bass, vocals, guitar, piano, and other—then analyzes musical and stem features, builds prompts, generates 3D models, and assembles a description of the world. The implementation he names uses Demucs with the htdemucs_6s model, librosa, Tripo’s API, faster-whisper, and spaCy.

These are the creator’s descriptions of the implementation, not independently verified performance or product claims. He says the browser world is built with Three.js and sound uses the Web Audio API. In his description, each stem has its own audio graph, and a PannerNode with HRTF spatialization tracks the camera as the listener. The intended result is that the mix shifts with the player’s position and direction.
Using the mixing table and other features
Unwrapped’s mixing table lets players arrange effect pucks and connect effects to instruments, offering a hands-on way to hear how processing changes a part of the song.

The project article also describes a tutorial, star missions, five landscapes, and a lyrics mode that turns nouns from sung lyrics into objects. Estape says mission conditions are checked against the actual mix state, rather than simply marking a task complete when a player presses a key.

What is available now—and what is only proposed
The project article describes a browser experience, but says the song-to-world asset pipeline runs on Estape’s laptop. It does not describe a public hosted upload service for processing anyone’s songs. Estape mentions hosted uploads, a VR version, additional effects, and missions following a production course as possible next steps; those are ideas he discussed, not confirmation that they are available.

He also describes Tripo model generation as asynchronous and says retries, polling, and saving the world description after each generated model helped him avoid losing paid generation work. That is his account of building the project; it does not establish current Tripo pricing or terms.

Unwrapped’s appeal is its invitation to learn by changing what you hear: isolate a part, move around it, or try an effect and listen to the result. The available project account does not report a user study, learning outcomes, performance measurements, or adoption figures, so it cannot establish how much players learn or how the experience performs across devices.

The article also gives no guidance on rights or permissions for songs people might upload. Because the described pipeline is not presented as a public upload service, do not assume that arbitrary-song processing is currently available. Estape sums up the project’s generative premise this way: “A different song gives a different world.”
