Verizon’s “unlimited” plans give you an unlimited data allowance, but the tiers do not offer identical service. Hotspot allowances, international terms, perks, and the way your monthly bill is calculated all differ, and the advertised per-line price means little until you know your line count and payment setup. This guide separates the marketing label from the plan terms that affect what you actually get. The figures reflect Verizon’s plan pages and FAQs as published in 2026. Plans, prices, and guarantees change, so confirm each one on Verizon’s plan page or in your account before you switch.
What “unlimited” does and does not promise
“Unlimited” describes the data allowance. It does not mean every tier gets the same network treatment, the same speed when the network is busy, the same hotspot data, or the same travel benefits. Five things can differ between Verizon unlimited plans, and each one changes the answer to “is this plan right for me?”
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Network access: which network features and speeds each plan can use, including 5G Ultra Wideband.
- Congestion rules: whether and when data may be slowed when a cell is crowded.
- Hotspot data: how much tethering data is at full premium speed each month, and what happens after that.
- International use: what is included abroad and in which countries.
- Perks and bill calculation: optional add-ons, line count, payment method, discounts, and fees.
Verizon’s current lineup
Verizon’s current comparison centers on three plans: Unlimited Welcome, Unlimited Plus, and Unlimited Ultimate. Verizon’s mobile hotspot FAQ also mentions a Simplicity plan, but the material reviewed for this article does not describe its terms in enough detail to compare, so check its details on the plan page if it applies to you.
Unlimited Ultimate was updated on May 7, 2026, and Verizon states that the earlier Ultimate 1.0 version is no longer available to new additions. If your account is on Ultimate 1.0, your terms may differ from the current Ultimate description below, so check your plan name and version in your account before comparing.

The Plus and Ultimate hotspot figures come from Verizon’s hotspot FAQ and Ultimate FAQ. The 200 GB Ultimate figure also applies to the Ultimate 1.0 version in Verizon’s hotspot FAQ.
Hotspot allowance: the clearest difference between tiers
Hotspot data is where the tiers differ most sharply. Plus includes 30 GB per month of premium hotspot data. Ultimate includes up to 200 GB per month. After either premium allowance is used up, the hotspot continues at a reduced speed.
The post-allowance speed for Ultimate is not settled in Verizon’s own material. The general hotspot FAQ lists 4 Mbps after 200 GB, while the Ultimate-specific FAQ lists 6 Mbps. Until Verizon resolves the difference, do not rely on either number. To check it:

- Look for the speed stated after the premium allowance and note the date on the page.
- If the page and the FAQ still disagree, contact Verizon Support and ask for the speed in writing before you choose the plan for tethering.
Premium hotspot speed on 5G Ultra Wideband is not guaranteed by the plan alone. Verizon’s hotspot FAQ lists three requirements, and all three must be met:

A 5G-capable phone on an unlimited plan can still tether on regular 5G or LTE if one of those three conditions is missing.
When Verizon can slow your data
Verizon’s current plan pages do not establish one congestion threshold that applies the same way to every tier. Verizon’s general terms page contains older plan language, including a statement that certain legacy Unlimited and Unlimited Plus lines can be temporarily slower during congestion after 50 GB and 100 GB of use. Those figures appear under older plan names and do not line up cleanly with the current plan descriptions. Treat them as legacy terms unless Verizon confirms they apply to your exact plan.
Verizon also makes a speed claim for Ultra Wideband. Its plan page says Ultra Wideband is “2X faster than our regular 5G in the U.S., no matter how much you use.” Verizon ties that comparison to Ookla Speedtest Intelligence data for the second half of 2025, reporting that Ultra Wideband median download speeds were twice its low-band 5G median. This is Verizon’s own comparison of medians, not a guarantee of the speed you will see.

International use
International terms also vary by tier. Verizon’s Ultimate FAQ describes unlimited international data, talk and text with Global Choice in more than 210 countries. Verizon’s Welcome FAQ describes use in Mexico and Canada and international texting, but it does not list the same coverage. Before you travel, check the included destinations, any daily or monthly limits, and the Global Choice terms for your plan. Do not assume that a country is covered because it appears in a general FAQ.
Perks and optional add-ons
Verizon describes optional perks, including streaming-related perks, that can be added to eligible lines. These are separately priced or conditional, and their terms and costs can change. A perk does not change a plan’s network access, hotspot allowance, or congestion terms, so compare the perk price separately from the plan price.

A single advertised per-line price is not enough to compare plans. Your final bill depends on several inputs:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Line count: the per-line price can change with the number of lines on the account. An account can have up to 12 phone lines, according to Verizon’s FAQs.
- Auto Pay and paperless billing: these discounts depend on eligibility and account setup. Verizon’s Ultimate FAQ includes Auto Pay terms.
- Other discounts and add-ons: account size, discount eligibility, add-on perks, and other discounts affect the total.
- Fees and taxes: these are added separately and vary by account and location.
Third-party comparison tables from 2026 have shown per-line prices with Auto Pay of $55 for Welcome, $70 for Plus, and $85 for Ultimate. Those figures may predate Verizon’s May 2026 Ultimate update, and some conflict with Verizon’s current pages. Use them only as a starting point, and check the price shown in Verizon’s plan selector for your line count and payment setup.

Verizon’s price guarantee for myPlan has also changed. Verizon states that the three-year price guarantee applied to myPlan enrollments or switches made before June 16, 2026. That date has now passed, and the material reviewed does not establish the terms for enrollments made after it. Do not assume a new enrollment carries the earlier guarantee. Confirm the terms attached to your offer before you sign up.
Matching a plan to how you use it
Low data cost focus
If you mainly use your phone and do not tether, compare Welcome and Plus on the total bill for your line count and payment method, not on the headline price. Check whether Welcome’s listed international terms cover the places you visit. Plus is the better fit if you need the 30 GB hotspot allowance.
Regular tethering to a laptop or tablet
Ultimate offers the largest premium hotspot allowance, up to 200 GB per month. Confirm the post-allowance speed before you rely on it for heavy work, and confirm that your phone and local coverage support Ultra Wideband if you want that speed.
Frequent international travel
Ultimate’s FAQ describes the broadest international terms in the current lineup, with Global Choice in more than 210 countries. Check your specific destinations and any limits before you travel, since coverage described in general terms may not match every country.
Existing grandfathered or legacy plan
If your line is on an older plan name or version, do not compare it using the current tier descriptions. Find your exact plan name, version, and effective date in your account. Legacy terms, including the congestion thresholds described above, may apply to your line, and switching could change them. Confirm the trade-off before you change plans.
Quick Recap
Before you switch: checklist
- Confirm your exact plan name and version, including whether Ultimate 1.0 applies to your line.
- Check the current plan page for the hotspot allowance and the post-allowance speed for the tier you want.
- Check whether your phone supports 5G Ultra Wideband and whether Ultra Wideband coverage exists where you use the phone.
- Confirm your international destinations and any limits for the plan.
- Enter your exact line count, Auto Pay and paperless-billing status, and any add-ons into Verizon’s plan selector to get the total monthly price.
- Ask about the price guarantee or promotion attached to your offer, and get the terms in writing.
- Note the date you checked each figure, since Verizon’s terms can change.
