Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIf removing Message Queuing (MSMQ) from Windows Server fails with 0x800f0922, first check whether C:WindowsTemp contains more than 65,000 files. Microsoft documents that specific condition as a cause of a Windows Server role or feature removal failure and recommends clearing the folder contents before retrying. It is not a confirmed diagnosis for every error code—or for your server until you verify the code and condition.
First confirm the failure you have
Record the complete error message and code, your Windows edition and version, the exact feature or subfeature selected, and the removal method. On Windows Server, the relevant documented case is a role or feature uninstall that returns 0x800f0922. A similar-looking error during installation, or a different code during removal, needs a different diagnosis.

- Confirm whether you are removing MSMQ itself or a subfeature such as MSMQ-HTTP.
- Note whether you used Server Manager, PowerShell, Settings, or DISM.
- Keep the full error text and any restart status reported by the removal tool.
For Windows Server error 0x800f0922, check Windows Temp
Microsoft’s documented Windows Server removal scenario links 0x800f0922 to more than 65,000 files in the Windows Temp directory. The threshold is a diagnostic condition, not a measure of how often the problem occurs. See Microsoft’s troubleshooting guidance.
- Open the configured Windows Temp directory, normally
C:WindowsTemp, and check the number of files. - If it contains more than 65,000 files, delete the contents of that folder as Microsoft recommends. Do not delete the
Tempfolder itself. - Retry removing the role or feature, then check whether the operation completes or reports a new error.
Only use this as the diagnosis when the operating system is Windows Server, the exact code is 0x800f0922, and the documented Temp condition is present. If any of those checks fails—or clearing the contents does not resolve the removal—continue with log and component-store checks rather than assuming the same cause.

If the Temp condition does not explain it, inspect logs and system health
Microsoft’s general feature troubleshooting guidance recommends using event logs and component servicing logs to narrow down failures. These checks help distinguish a feature-specific problem from a broader servicing issue; they do not by themselves prove the cause.
- Review the System and Windows Setup logs in Event Viewer for errors at the time of the failed removal.
- Check
Applications And Services LogsMicrosoftWindowsServerManager-MultiMachinefor Server Manager-related errors. - Compare the failed operation with another feature operation, if appropriate, to see whether the failure is limited to one feature.
- From an elevated command prompt, check component-store health with
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth. - Review
%windir%LogsCBSCBS.logfor servicing details related to the attempt. - If component-store corruption has been addressed, run elevated
SFC /scannowand review the result.
Follow the sequence and cautions in Microsoft’s general role and feature removal troubleshooting guidance. Run repair commands with appropriate administrative privileges, and use the CBS log to understand what they report.

Remove the feature with a Windows Server tool
On Windows Server, the documented removal options include Server Manager’s Remove Roles and Features wizard and the Server Manager PowerShell cmdlet Uninstall-WindowsFeature. Use the same tool consistently when retrying so you can capture its complete result.
- In Server Manager, open Manage > Remove Roles and Features, select the relevant server and feature, and proceed through the wizard.
- Alternatively, in an elevated PowerShell session, use
Uninstall-WindowsFeaturewith the appropriate feature name for your server. - Read the result for the reported restart state. Some removals require a restart; plan for it if the tool indicates one is needed.
Do not add the -Remove option casually. It removes feature payload files as well as uninstalling the feature, and dependent feature files can also be removed. Microsoft documents -WhatIf as a way to preview the files affected before running that operation: Uninstall-WindowsFeature documentation.

Do not confuse an MSMQ installation issue with an uninstall fix
A Windows Server 2019 MSMQ discussion sometimes relevant to these symptoms concerns installation, not removal. In a Microsoft Q&A reply dated 2023-01-10, Microsoft employee Niklas Engfelt wrote, “MSMQ-HTTP can only be installed in default web site with site id#1.” The reply also says a mitigation-policy issue affecting Windows Server 2019 RTM was fixed in later Windows updates. Those details matter only if the failing operation is an MSMQ-HTTP installation or involves that historical RTM condition; the thread does not establish a solution for uninstall failures, and the original asker said the installation issue remained unresolved. Read the Microsoft Q&A thread.
