Possibly. Don’t assume a Facebook Marketplace listing is hidden from your friends. A third-party guide reports that some item listings may offer a “Hide from friends” option, but Meta’s general privacy guidance does not confirm how that control works or guarantee that a listing will be invisible to friends. Check the options in your own listing flow before publishing.
Can your Facebook friends see your Marketplace listing?
They may be able to. The available official guidance reviewed here explains Facebook’s general privacy settings, but does not establish that Marketplace listings are private or invisible to friends. A third-party guide reports that some item listings have a “Hide from friends” toggle; treat it as a limited visibility control, not a promise of secrecy.

Even if the option appears and you use it, the guide says the listing can still be public. The control’s current availability and behavior have not been confirmed by the Meta sources cited here, and may vary by category, app, account, or interface.

-
Review the listing’s own audience and visibility options before publishing. If “Hide from friends” appears, read the wording shown in your current interface and decide whether its limited scope meets your needs.
-
If the option is absent, do not assume another Facebook privacy setting will hide the listing. Check Meta’s current Help Center for updated Marketplace guidance.

The third-party LotLift guide reports that this option may not be available for apartments, homes, or vehicles. That category information is secondary-source reporting, not a verified Meta policy, so rely on the controls shown for your own listing rather than assuming eligibility.

Marketplace visibility is different from other privacy controls
| Control | What it applies to | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Marketplace listing option | The specific listing, if a “Hide from friends” control appears in that listing flow. | It does not establish that the listing is private or unseen by everyone; LotLift reports that a listing may remain public. LotLift’s guide is secondary-source reporting. |
| General Facebook privacy settings | Areas such as profile details, posts, stories, followers and public content, profile and tagging, and blocking. | They do not, in the reviewed Meta guidance, specify Marketplace listing visibility. Meta says settings are under Settings & privacy and Audience and visibility; available settings may vary by profile type. Facebook Help Center |
| Friends-list privacy | Who can see the friends list on your own profile. | It does not hide a Marketplace listing or control how a friend’s settings show your connection. Meta notes that friends control their own lists and mutual friends may remain visible. Facebook Help Center |
| Privacy Checkup | A guide through privacy and sharing settings. | The reviewed Safety Center page does not say it changes Marketplace listing visibility. Meta Safety Center |
Where to find Facebook’s broader privacy settings
Meta places general privacy controls under Settings & privacy → Audience and visibility. It says: “You can view and adjust your privacy settings at any time from the Audience and visibility section of Settings & privacy.” These settings cover multiple parts of Facebook, but should not be mistaken for a Marketplace-specific audience control. Labels and available settings can vary by profile type. Facebook Help Center

Privacy Checkup can help you review privacy and sharing settings, according to Meta’s Safety Center. The page does not claim that using it makes a Marketplace listing private.

If being unseen by friends is essential, the available evidence does not establish a Marketplace setting that can guarantee that outcome. Consider whether posting the listing is appropriate for your privacy needs.
