Alongside the funding, Ultra is expanding its partnership with Physical Intelligence, which supplies AI software for Ultra’s warehouse robots. Ultra builds and installs the systems, then leases them to warehouse operators through a robots-as-a-service model.
How the $62 million breaks down
The total combines two rounds, rather than representing a single $62 million raise. Fortune reported on October 9, 2026, that Ultra’s $50 million Series A was led by Framework Ventures, with Y Combinator participating. Its earlier $12 million seed round was led by Y Combinator and Next View. Fortune’s report identifies the rounds and investors; the $62 million total is their combined amount.

What Ultra’s warehouse robots do
Ultra focuses on packing goods for shipment at warehouses, including third-party logistics sites. Its company profile describes automating e-commerce order packaging and returns in fulfillment centers, and says its robots are trained with examples. Those are Ultra’s descriptions of its product, not independent performance findings. Ultra’s Y Combinator profile provides the company’s stated focus.

What the Physical Intelligence partnership adds
The companies divide the work between physical systems and software: Ultra builds and installs the robots, while Physical Intelligence provides AI intended to help the robots learn and improve in customer settings. Fortune describes the expanded relationship as a way for Physical Intelligence to gain real-world usage data that can help train its models. The report does not specify how the AI is deployed or how data access is governed.

The available reporting does not state the partnership’s contract value, duration, exclusivity, or revenue split. It also does not identify which customers or facilities are covered by the expanded arrangement.
How customers pay for the robots
Ultra’s robots-as-a-service model avoids requiring a customer to buy the hardware outright, but it is not cost-free at installation. According to Ultra CEO and co-founder Jon Miller Schwartz, customers pay an upfront integration fee for installation, followed by a recurring monthly fee for hardware and software support. Fortune does not disclose the fee amounts, contract terms, or customer payback period.

This structure shifts the purchase from a large equipment acquisition toward installation plus ongoing service charges. Whether it lowers total costs depends on each site’s volumes, integration needs, service terms, and operating results—details the public reporting does not provide.
What the reported traction does—and does not—show
Fortune reports that Ultra says its devices had packed more than 500,000 orders for shipping. That is a company-reported cumulative figure, not an independently audited result. The article does not provide a timeframe, number of deployed robots, per-site throughput, uptime, error rates, or customer-verified savings, so the figure alone cannot establish how reliably or economically the systems perform.

Fortune also says Schwartz did not disclose Ultra’s revenue. The available coverage does not establish the company’s margins, customer retention, detailed pricing, or independently verified customer outcomes. Fortune reports Physical Intelligence’s valuation at $5.6 billion, but does not independently establish the transaction date for that figure.

Fortune mentions Exotec and Amazon as other participants in warehouse robotics, but its report provides no comparable pricing or performance figures for those companies. It therefore does not support a like-for-like ranking of Ultra against them.
