UIDAI’s official Aadhaar app lets Aadhaar holders access listed services such as updating details, managing biometric locks, sharing selected credentials and downloading e-Aadhaar. To register, use an internet-connected phone running Android 9.0 or later or iOS 16.0 or later, complete face authentication and set a six-digit PIN. Get the app through UIDAI’s official guidance and verify that UIDAI is the publisher before installing.
How to find the official Aadhaar app
UIDAI describes the Aadhaar app as an official application it develops and manages. Start from UIDAI’s Aadhaar app page, which directs users to the Android and iOS app-store listings. Before installing, check the app publisher shown in the store to avoid lookalike apps.

UIDAI lists Android 9.0 or later and iOS 16.0 or later as the minimum operating-system versions for onboarding. The phone must also have an internet connection. The app is available in 13 languages, and UIDAI says one device can hold up to five profiles.
How to register on the Aadhaar app
UIDAI’s published onboarding sequence is:
- Choose the language you want to use.
- Enter your Aadhaar number.
- Accept the terms and privacy policy.
- Choose the SIM card associated with the mobile number registered for Aadhaar, following the in-app prompts.
- Complete face authentication.
- Set a six-digit PIN to protect access.
Keep your phone connected to the internet while completing setup. If onboarding does not proceed, check that the operating system meets UIDAI’s stated minimum, that you selected the appropriate SIM, and that you can complete the prompted face-authentication step.

What services does the app list?
UIDAI’s app information page lists the following services. Availability and exact steps should be checked in the current app because UIDAI may update service rules.
- Mobile-number update and address update.
- Biometric lock and unlock.
- Selective sharing of Aadhaar Verifiable Credentials.
- Authentication history.
- e-Aadhaar download.
- Contact-card sharing.
- Request tracking.
Updates and request tracking
UIDAI says a mobile-number and/or address update may take up to 30 days to appear in the app. Its FAQ describes a document-based address-update process involving face authentication and a ₹75 fee. Check the current in-app instructions and UIDAI guidance for eligibility, required documents, applicable fee and processing time before submitting a request, since these details can change.

What security and privacy controls does UIDAI describe?
UIDAI describes face authentication during onboarding and PIN-protected app access. It also says holders can choose whether to share Aadhaar data in full or in part, and decide with whom and for what purpose. UIDAI states that no identity data is shared without the Aadhaar Number Holder’s explicit consent.

The app lists biometric lock/unlock as a service, allowing users to manage biometric authentication controls. UIDAI’s FAQ also says the app does not capture location and cannot be used when developer mode is enabled. These are specific statements by UIDAI, not a guarantee that every phone or use of the app is risk-free. The official material cited here does not provide a comparative study or independent security audit of the app.
Quick Recap
Before you rely on a service
- Install only from a store listing reached through UIDAI’s official Aadhaar app guidance, and verify the publisher.
- Confirm your phone meets the stated Android or iOS minimum and has internet access.
- Follow the app’s current prompts for the relevant service; update eligibility, fees and processing windows can change.
- Use the selective-sharing choices deliberately and review the requested purpose before consenting to share credentials.
