Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteA user-generated content (UGC) business creates videos, photos, or other assets that a brand can publish on its own channels or use in advertising. Unlike influencer work, a production-only UGC deal does not necessarily require you to post to your own audience. To get started, choose a format or niche, make a small portfolio, approach brands that fit your work, and agree in writing on deliverables, deadlines, payment, revisions, and usage rights.
What does a UGC creator sell?
A UGC creator sells usable content and the permission for a brand to use it under agreed terms. A brand might publish the asset on its social accounts or, if that use is agreed, run it as an advertisement. Your portfolio and ability to deliver work that fits the brief may matter more to a production-only client than your follower count.

| Deal type | What you provide | Questions to settle |
|---|---|---|
| Production-only UGC | Content delivered for the brand’s use; posting to your own account is not inherent in the arrangement. | Which assets, formats, usage channels, and duration are included? |
| Sponsored creator post | A post published to an account or audience you control. | Which account and platform, what posting date, what disclosure, and what audience access are expected? |
| Paid-ad use | Permission for the brand to use creator content in paid advertising. Some platform formats can involve advertising authorization. | Which platforms, for how long, and does the permission involve your account or identity? |
TikTok for Business identifies branded content and Spark Ads as commercial UGC formats, and describes creators granting advertising authorization. Those examples do not establish standard deal terms or rates; confirm the platform’s current settings and authorization duration when negotiating. See TikTok for Business’s commercial UGC resource.

How do you start a UGC business?
1. Choose a format or niche
Start with work you can make consistently and show clearly. You might focus on short product demonstrations, unboxings, tutorials, lifestyle footage, or another format suited to your skills. A niche can help a potential client understand what you make, but it should reflect work you can actually deliver—not claims of expertise you do not have.
2. Make a small portfolio
Create a few sample assets that demonstrate different useful skills, such as explaining a product, showing it in use, or presenting a clear before-and-after sequence. You can use a product you already own; label sample work honestly and do not imply that a brand hired or endorsed you if it did not. A phone is enough to begin making samples if it can capture the format you want to offer. A tripod is an optional accessory for stabilizing a phone, not a prerequisite.
Make each sample easy to assess: identify the intended format, show the finished asset, and state what you would deliver for a comparable brief. Do not publish a client’s unpublished material or use footage in a way the client has not permitted.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
3. Define a clear service
Describe the deliverable in concrete terms: for example, a specified number of edited vertical videos, their approximate length or format, and whether captions, alternate openings, or raw footage are included. A brand should be able to tell what it will receive, when it will receive it, and what it may do with the work.
4. Find suitable brands and make a specific approach
Build a short list of brands whose products and audience fit the work in your portfolio. Send a concise proposal that links to relevant samples, names the content you could produce, and asks about the brand’s brief and intended use. Avoid promising sales, reach, or results you cannot control. If you are pitching a post to your own followers, say so explicitly; that is a different offer from production-only content.

5. Confirm scope before production
Before filming, resolve the brief, delivery format, timeline, feedback process, payment terms, and permitted use. If a brand asks for something outside the agreed scope—such as extra versions or advertising rights—treat it as a scope change and agree on the change before doing the work.
What should a UGC deal agreement cover?
Put the deal terms in writing, even when the project is small. This is practical planning, not a claim that one particular contract form is legally required. Official government guidance does not establish a UGC-specific contract standard or settle every rights clause.
- Deliverables: number, format, length or specifications, editing, captions, and whether raw footage or alternate versions are included.
- Deadlines and feedback: brief and delivery dates, how feedback is provided, and the number of included revision rounds.
- Payment: amount agreed for the scope, invoice or payment milestones, due date, and what happens if the project is canceled or delayed.
- Usage permission: whether use is organic or paid, the channels covered, the duration, and any geographic or exclusivity limits.
- Advertising authorization: whether the brand may use a platform authorization or your identity/account for ads, and the scope and duration of that permission.
- Posting obligation: whether you must publish anything on your own account. Do not leave this implicit.
- Cancellation and changes: how either party handles cancellation, late changes, or work beyond the original brief.
- Disclosure: who is responsible for making any required endorsement disclosure and how it will appear.
A generic template cannot guarantee that an agreement fits your jurisdiction or deal. For high-value, long-running, exclusive, or otherwise consequential rights grants, consider getting advice from a qualified professional in the relevant jurisdiction.
How should you price UGC work?
There is no authoritative, representative rate benchmark established here, so avoid treating isolated online anecdotes as an industry standard or promising a typical income. Build a quote from the actual production scope and the permissions requested.
- List every deliverable and estimate the time needed for planning, filming, editing, communication, and revisions.
- Specify the usage permission: organic publication or paid advertising, channels, duration, exclusivity, and any use of your account or identity.
- Account separately for extra versions, raw footage, additional revision rounds, or other work beyond the base deliverable.
- Set payment timing and any agreed milestones in writing.
- Compare the full scope with your costs and available capacity before accepting.
This is a quoting worksheet, not a market-rate formula. If a client’s requested usage expands after you quote, revisit the scope rather than assuming the original fee covered it.

What disclosure and platform rules matter?
Disclose material connections when content is an endorsement
The FTC’s Endorsement Guides were revised in June 2023. The FTC says endorsements should be truthful and not misleading, endorsers should not claim experience with products they have not tried, and material connections should be disclosed. The Guides are guidance rather than regulations themselves; the FTC says failure to follow them may lead it to investigate conduct under the FTC Act. The FTC puts the practical point this way: “One key is to make a good disclosure of your relationship to the brand.” Read the FTC’s Endorsements, Influencers, and Reviews.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesPayment, free or discounted products, and other perks can be material connections. When a piece is an endorsement, the disclosure should be hard to miss and placed with the endorsement—not hidden in a profile, after a “more” link, or among hashtags. The FTC’s Disclosures 101 for Social Media Influencers explains these placement principles.
Not every asset made for a brand is necessarily an endorsement: the relevant question is whether it communicates an endorsement and whether there is a material connection to disclose. Do not claim personal experience you have not had. When you are unsure how the rules apply to a particular arrangement, get advice for your circumstances.
Use TikTok’s commercial content disclosure setting when required
TikTok says creators promoting a brand, product, or service—including their own business—must turn on the content disclosure setting. TikTok says content may be removed or restricted if the disclosure is missing. Check TikTok’s current instructions for promoting a brand, product, or service before publishing, since platform controls can change.

The IRS says gig income must be reported even when the work is part-time or temporary, or no information return is received. Its gig-work guidance identifies $400 in net self-employment earnings as the threshold that requires filing a return for gig work. Keep records of income and receipts for expenses; certain independent contractors may need to make estimated tax payments. See the IRS page on managing taxes for gig work (accessed 2026).
The IRS describes self-employment tax as Social Security and Medicare taxes. Topic 554 states Social Security and Medicare rates of 12.4% and 2.9%, respectively, while noting an annual Social Security wage base and the possibility of Additional Medicare Tax. These components do not by themselves determine a creator’s full tax bill, and tax rules can change. Consult the IRS’s Topic no. 554, Self-employment tax (accessed 2026) and a tax professional for your circumstances.
A separate use case: a prerecorded YouTube channel
UGC production is not the same service as running a continuous video channel. If you separately operate a YouTube channel that plays uploaded videos, StreamNeo is a cloud service that loops uploaded videos on YouTube, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It does not create UGC or stream from a camera. You upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The first day is free with no card; see StreamNeo’s free trial.
How to build a sustainable service business
Keep a record of briefs, agreed scopes, delivery dates, revision time, invoices, payments, and expenses. After each project, note what took longer than expected and whether the client requested work outside the original agreement. Use that information to make future scopes clearer and decide which work fits your capacity. Treat each client’s feedback as project-specific rather than evidence of guaranteed results for the next client.
