UFO 50 gives you all 50 games from the start. You do not have to beat one game to unlock another: the shared progression is about exploring a connected collection, not climbing a mandatory unlock ladder. Browse the library, pick a genre or session length that suits you, and move between games whenever you like.
How progression works in UFO 50
Mossmouth describes UFO 50 as 50 complete games, all available immediately. You can jump between them rather than finish them in a prescribed order. The collection presents those games as releases from UFO Soft, a fictional 1980s developer; some are sequels, and characters recur across titles. That creates continuity and rewards noticing connections, but it does not make one game a prerequisite for playing another. Mossmouth’s Steam listing and the official game site describe the collection and its shared world.

What players mean by “meta progression”
Players sometimes ask how “meta progression” works. For the collection as a whole, there is no official sequence of game unlocks to grind through. Think of progression instead as what you learn by sampling the library, spotting recurring characters or sequel relationships, and exploring the collection’s secrets. Any objectives or advancement inside a particular game belong to that game and can differ from the rest.

There is no official best first game or required starting order established in the sources. Instead of treating the library like a checklist, choose by the kind of play you want right now:
#1 Best Overall
- Minecraft is a game about placing blocks and going on adventures
- Explore randomly generated worlds and build amazing things from the simplest of homes to the grandest of castles
- Play in creative mode with unlimited resources or mine deep into the world in survival mode, crafting weapons and armor to fend off the dangerous mobs
- Play on the go in handheld or tabletop modes
- Includes Super Mario Mash-Up, Natural Texture Pack, Biome Settlers Skin Pack, Battle & Beasts Skin Pack, Campfire Tales Skin Pack; Compatible with Nintendo Switch only
- Choose a genre: the collection includes platformers, shooters, puzzles, role-playing, strategy and sports, among other styles.
- Choose a session shape: some games are short, arcade-style experiences; others are larger adventures or RPGs that ask for more time.
- Decide whether you want company: Mossmouth says about half the collection supports local multiplayer, but the number of players and whether a game is co-op or versus depends on the individual title.
- Consider how much discovery you enjoy: some games invite experimentation, and secrets are part of the collection’s design.
The official Steam description illustrates the range without declaring either example a beginner pick: Campanella 2 is an exploration adventure with procedurally generated levels, while Grimstone is a JRPG with skill-based battles and overworld encounters that can be avoided strategically. Start with a premise that sounds appealing rather than assuming every game uses the same rules.
Learn each game’s rules on its own terms
Because UFO 50 is an anthology, its games do not share one control scheme, objective or difficulty curve. Read the short premise in the library, then check the selected game’s own instructions when the controls or goal are unclear. For additional help, Steam lists a community guide titled “The missing manuals – How to play UFO 50 games.” A game-specific guide may reveal more than basic controls, so take care if you want to discover surprises yourself. Rank #2
- Explore each stage and then find even more secrets by making your way through the stage backwards on the flip side
- Overcome varied enemies and obstacles, like Zombie Guys, Skelesaurus, Ukiki, and Monty Mole as you seek out hidden collectables; ESRB Content: Mild Cartoon Violence; Genre: Action, Platformer
- Pass a Joy Con controller to a friend for 2 player cooperative exploration
- Clad Yoshi in collectable, protective, handicraft costumes as he makes his way through each stage
How local multiplayer fits in
Local multiplayer is included in about half of the collection, according to Mossmouth’s Steam listing. The exact mode varies by game; check the individual game’s description rather than assuming a title supports multiplayer. For the Nintendo Switch edition, Nintendo lists single-system play for 1–3 players, with TV, tabletop and handheld modes. Its store page labels the edition “Digital.” Nintendo’s UFO 50 listing
Secrets, exploration and spoiler caution
Exploration is more than a theme in UFO 50. In a GamesRadar+ interview, developer Eirik Suhrke said, “UFO 50 is all about exploration,” adding, “And in order to have exploration, there needs to be stuff to find.” The Terminal contributes to a collection-wide scavenger hunt, and players have discovered a 51st game. Those details are good reasons to pay attention and experiment, but they are also spoilers if you would rather encounter the collection’s surprises unaided. GamesRadar+ interview with Eirik Suhrke

- Use each game’s instructions. If the goal or controls are opaque, check the in-game guidance before assuming the collection uses familiar conventions.
- Bring in other players selectively. Check which individual games support local multiplayer and what kind of play they offer.
- Choose your spoiler level. Search for a basic how-to if you are stuck, but avoid secret or scavenger-hunt guides until you are ready for answers.
