UFC’s May 28, 2024 weight-class explainer says athletes weigh in the day before competition and describes a one-pound allowance for non-title bouts. Title fights require the athlete to make the division’s exact championship limit. The UFC introduction to MMA also lists women’s strawweight at 115 lb and women’s flyweight at 125 lb.

How the one-pound allowance works
The allowance changes the permitted weigh-in ceiling for a non-title bout; it does not change the division’s championship limit. So a non-title strawweight bout can have a 116 lb ceiling, while a strawweight title bout requires 115 lb or less. The corresponding flyweight figures are 126 lb and 125 lb.

These are UFC’s stated rules. For a particular bout, check the relevant athletic commission and event rules, which govern that event. A weigh-in above a championship limit does not redefine the division; any missed-weight consequence depends on the bout’s circumstances and applicable rules.

What an official weigh-in report can show
UFC’s March 27, 2026 Seattle weigh-in report listed Alexa Grasso at 126 lb and Maycee Barber at 125 lb for a women’s flyweight bout. It listed Alexia Thainara and Bruna Brasil at 115 lb each for a women’s strawweight bout. These are the weights reported for those bouts; they do not replace the division limits or the general distinction between title and non-title allowances.

The categories establish weight limits, not guaranteed differences in fighting style or physical attributes. The UFC sources defining these divisions do not establish that flyweights are universally faster, stronger, more technical, or longer-reached than strawweights. Such traits vary by individual fighter and should not be inferred from the class name alone.
