Public reporting supports describing it as a presentation-preparation tool—not as a voice or video duplicate, an autonomous executive, or a replacement for Khosrowshahi.
What is Dara AI?
In remarks reported by TechCrunch on February 24, 2026, Khosrowshahi described hearing that “some teams have built a Dara AI.” He said those teams present their slide decks to the system as preparation for presenting to him, adding: “So they have Dara AI to tune their prep.”

That makes the clearest public description an internal rehearsal chatbot. It is intended to help a team practice its explanation, anticipate questions or refine a presentation before a meeting with the CEO.
What the public report does—and does not—establish

The report does not say whether Dara AI produces spoken responses, evaluates slides, uses company documents or follows a specific question-and-answer script. Those details should not be inferred from its name.
Uber’s reported AI adoption
TechCrunch attributed two 2026 estimates to Khosrowshahi: about 90% of Uber’s software engineers use AI in their work, and about 30% are “power users.” These are statements from the CEO reported by TechCrunch, not independently audited measurements. They also describe broader engineering adoption, not usage of Dara AI specifically.

Uber’s broader AI governance context
Uber’s 2026 Governance Strategy and Engagement Report says the company uses a risk-based AI oversight model built around accountability, human judgment and cross-functional review throughout the AI life cycle. The report also says Uber introduced mandatory responsible-AI training for employees in 2025, with additional technical education for people who develop or deploy AI systems.

Those policies provide company-wide context, but the report does not explain which controls, training requirements or review process were applied to Dara AI. There is no public project-specific description of its access controls, testing, logging, privacy safeguards or approval path.

Is Dara AI a real replacement for Uber’s CEO?
No public evidence supports that interpretation. A rehearsal chatbot and an executive replacement are different systems:
- A rehearsal tool helps employees practice communication.
- A voice or video avatar would reproduce an identifiable voice or appearance; that capability has not been reported for Dara AI.
- An autonomous agent would take actions or make decisions; no such authority has been reported.
- A CEO replacement would stand in for the executive in governance or management; Khosrowshahi’s comments describe preparation before a meeting with him instead.
Even a highly convincing persona would not, by itself, confer authority to approve budgets, set strategy, manage employees or speak for Uber.

What remains unknown
Readers should treat the project as lightly specified until Uber or another authoritative source provides more detail. The public account does not identify:

Those questions matter because an internal persona system could expose confidential strategy, create misleading impressions of an executive’s views or encourage employees to optimize for a simulated reaction rather than sound evidence. Human review remains essential for any real presentation and decision.

Bottom line
Uber employees reportedly built “Dara AI” as an internal way to rehearse presentations before meeting CEO Dara Khosrowshahi. The evidence does not show a speaking avatar, a visual deepfake, an autonomous executive or a CEO substitute. Until Uber discloses technical and governance details, “AI clone” is a headline shorthand for a reported presentation-preparation chatbot—not a demonstrated digital replica of the CEO.
