Team Win Recovery Project (TWRP) announced support for several Xiaomi phones on December 22, 2021, including the Mi 11, Mi 11 Pro, Mi 11 Ultra, Mi Mix 4 and the Mi 11i/Mi 11X/Redmi K40 Pro family. Team Win’s Xiaomi directory still lists the corresponding device targets as of August 18, 2026, but an official listing is not a promise that every firmware or regional variant will work.
Before downloading anything, match your phone’s exact model and codename to the live device page. Unlocking the Xiaomi bootloader normally erases the phone, and using an image for a similar-looking device can leave it unable to boot.
What the 2021 announcement covered
The original report, published December 22, 2021, said TWRP had added builds for these Xiaomi-related devices:

The same report also mentioned OnePlus 7T, OnePlus 7T Pro, Oppo R11 and Oppo R11s. This was a 2021 expansion, not a new 2026 announcement. The contemporary device list is reported by 9to5Google.

Which Xiaomi codename matches your phone?
Team Win’s current Xiaomi directory distinguishes several similarly branded models. Check the codename, model and firmware before selecting an image.

See the live TWRP Xiaomi directory immediately before downloading. The presence of a related retail name does not establish image compatibility.
What “official TWRP support” means
TWRP is a third-party, touch-based recovery environment maintained by Team Win, not a Xiaomi app or system component. It can provide a graphical way to install custom ROMs and modification packages, create and restore recovery-level backups, wipe partitions, use ADB and a recovery terminal, and decrypt user data where that device and firmware combination supports decryption. “Official” generally means the device has an entry in Team Win’s database, a hosted build and device-specific guidance from a named maintainer. It does not guarantee compatibility with every Xiaomi firmware, region, Android release, custom ROM or encryption state. Firmware updates can also change recovery behavior.

- Confirm the exact retail model, codename, region and current firmware.
- Check that the bootloader is eligible for Xiaomi’s current unlock process and note any waiting period.
- Back up photos, messages, authenticator codes, app data and recovery keys to a separate device or cloud. A copy kept only on the phone will be lost if unlocking wipes storage.
- Keep a matching Xiaomi stock fastboot or factory package available for recovery.
- Install Google’s Android SDK Platform-Tools, and use a reliable USB cable. Windows may also need suitable USB drivers.
- Download only the image linked from the exact device page; do not cross-flash a similar Xiaomi model.
Xiaomi’s bootloader-unlock procedure is separate from TWRP and may vary by account and region. The TWRP Mi Mix 4 page specifically warns that unlocking erases personal data, settings and installed apps.

- Unlock the bootloader and complete the required data backup.
- Install Platform-Tools on the computer.
- Download the current
odinTWRP image, copy it to the Platform-Tools folder and device storage, and rename ittwrp.img. - Boot the phone to the bootloader with:
adb reboot bootloader - Temporarily start TWRP with:
fastboot boot twrp.img - In TWRP, select Advanced > Flash Current TWRP.
- If the device page directs you to the alternate method, use Advanced > Install Recovery Ramdisk.
- Run Advanced > Fix Recovery Bootloop when instructed.
- Reboot into recovery and confirm that TWRP remains installed.
The official page warns against replacing this temporary-boot-first process with an immediate fastboot flash. Do not copy these Mi Mix 4 steps to the Mi 11, Mi 11 Pro, Mi 11 Ultra or haydn family without checking that device’s own page: recovery-in-boot layouts and installation procedures differ.
Why dynamic partitions matter on Mi Mix 4
Mi Mix 4 uses dynamic partitions. In ordinary recovery, TWRP cannot treat each logical partition inside the stock ROM’s super partition like an independent physical partition. Backups and restores cover the whole super partition, while operations on individual logical partitions require fastbootd, not merely standard bootloader fastboot mode. This distinction explains why older recovery tutorials can be unsafe or ineffective on this phone.
Risks and common failure modes
Data loss during unlock
Bootloader unlocking normally performs a factory reset. Do not begin until irreplaceable data and two-factor recovery information are stored elsewhere.

Wrong image or codename
A recovery for alioth, renoir or another related model is not interchangeable with haydn, venus, mars, star or odin. An incorrect image can cause a boot failure or more serious damage.
The phone boots Android instead of TWRP
- Re-enter bootloader mode and verify the codename and downloaded file.
- Temporarily boot the correct image again.
- Check that you completed the device-specific permanent-installation step; temporary boot alone does not install recovery.
- Use the hardware-key or reboot path specified by the device page.
Boot loop after installation
On Mi Mix 4, run Advanced > Fix Recovery Bootloop as directed by Team Win. If the loop persists, return to fastboot or fastbootd and restore matching stock boot and recovery components from the factory package. Do not flash partitions taken from another regional build.
Storage will not decrypt
Failed decryption can indicate a firmware and recovery mismatch, an encryption change between Android releases or a device-specific limitation. It is not necessarily an incorrect PIN. Do not casually choose a data format: formatting destroys encrypted user data.

OTA update fails or removes TWRP
Team Win does not support official manufacturer OTAs as a general TWRP installation path. An update may replace recovery, and modified boot, system or vendor partitions, root and removed system apps can break a differential update. Team Win’s OTA guidance recommends returning to a completely stock configuration before retrying, including stock boot and recovery where applicable. There is usually no separate uninstall button; installing the stock recovery replaces TWRP. See also Team Win’s removal guidance.

- Keep the matching regional Xiaomi fastboot or factory package available before modifying the phone.
- Boot to fastboot or fastbootd, depending on the partition being restored.
- Restore the stock boot, recovery and other required components from that matching package.
- Remove incompatible root or system modifications before attempting an OTA.
- Only relock the bootloader if Xiaomi’s own documentation confirms that the restored software is fully stock and suitable for relocking; an incorrect relock can permanently disable the phone.
What the support means in practice
The 2021 announcement made device-specific custom recovery downloads available for the listed Xiaomi hardware. It did not remove Xiaomi’s unlock requirements, eliminate data loss, guarantee decryption or make every ROM and firmware combination compatible. Treat the live Team Win device page and its current image as the authority at the moment you install.
The Bottom Line
TWRP’s December 22, 2021 expansion covers the Mi 11, Mi 11 Pro, Mi 11 Ultra, Mi Mix 4 and the haydn family, with distinct codenames for each target. Support remains useful, but safe installation depends on an unlocked bootloader, a verified codename, a complete off-device backup and following the current device-specific instructions—especially the Mi Mix 4 temporary-boot and dynamic-partition requirements.
