The original Y70 launched in 2022 with a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1; the Y70 New Generation arrived in 2026 with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 and an 8,000 mAh battery. Both are compelling on paper for gaming, but buyers outside China should weigh firmware, carrier compatibility, warranty and return logistics before importing either model.
Which Lenovo Legion Y70 do you mean?
Lenovo uses the Y70 name for two generations of Legion-branded performance phones. The year matters: their processors, batteries, displays and software context are different.
| Model | Launch | Processor | Battery | Market status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lenovo Legion Y70 (2022) | August 2022 | Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 | 5,100 mAh | China-market model; older listings may be unavailable |

The 2026 phone is more than a cosmetic refresh: it moves to a newer processor generation, larger display, larger battery and higher charging rate. It is also heavier. These specifications do not by themselves prove a particular gaming frame rate, battery runtime or camera result; those depend on testing, software, thermals and the individual app or game.

Chip performance is not the same as sustained performance
The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 made the 2022 Y70 a powerful phone for its launch period; the 2026 Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 model has substantially newer silicon. Neither chip name guarantees that a demanding game will hold its highest frame rate over a long session. Cooling design, ambient temperature, game optimization and thermal limits affect sustained performance. No benchmark or sustained-game test is established by the specifications cited here.

A 144 Hz screen does not make every game run at 144 fps
The panel can refresh at up to 144 Hz, but individual games may cap frame rates below that level or offer high-refresh modes only for selected devices. The screen’s maximum rate is a display capability, not a promise about game rendering.
Battery capacity and RAM need context
The 2026 model’s 8,000 mAh capacity is notably larger than the 2022 phone’s 5,100 mAh, but capacity alone does not establish hours of play. Screen resolution, refresh rate, signal strength, game load and power management all affect endurance. Likewise, 16 GB of RAM may help keep apps resident, but it does not substitute for processor performance, cooling or game optimization.
The 2022 phone was positioned as a comparatively conventional-looking performance phone, with its chip, OLED refresh rate, charging and memory options as headline hardware. The cited specifications do not establish dedicated shoulder triggers, an active cooling fan or particular gaming accessories, so do not assume those features are present.

The 2022 Y70 combines a 6.67-inch 1080p-class OLED with a 144 Hz maximum refresh rate. The 2026 model is larger, and secondary coverage attributes a sharper 2,772 × 1,280 LTPO AMOLED panel and the same 144 Hz maximum. A higher resolution can make fine detail sharper, while also asking the graphics hardware to render more pixels; the effect on battery life depends on settings and use.
The reported 7,000-nit figure for the 2026 display should be read as a peak or advertised value. Peak brightness may apply only to a small highlight, HDR content or a particular mode; it is not evidence that the entire screen sustains that brightness. No independently measured sustained full-screen brightness is established here.

Cameras: specifications do not establish image quality
Lenovo lists a 13 MP and 2 MP rear-camera setup and a 16 MP front camera for the 2022 Y70. That hardware is modest by later flagship standards, but megapixels alone cannot determine the quality of photos or video.
For the 2026 model, Lenovo lists a 50 MP rear camera and 32 MP front camera; Notebookcheck additionally reports an 8 MP ultrawide. The available specifications do not establish sensor size, stabilization, video capabilities or low-light results. Treat the resolution increase as a hardware change, not proof that the phone takes flagship-quality pictures.

Both generations are China-market devices in the cited listings. A phone bought through an importer may have its original China firmware, a seller-modified build, or another software configuration. Google services and app behavior therefore need checking on the exact handset rather than assuming every Y70 has the same setup.
- Google Play and certification: Ask whether Google Play is installed and whether the device is Play Protect certified. Installation alone does not establish certification or reliable future updates.
- Notifications and system language: China-market apps, background-management settings or untranslated elements may affect daily use. Push-notification behavior can depend on firmware and app configuration.
- Android Auto, banking and DRM: Compatibility can vary with firmware, certification, app policy and region. Confirm the apps and services you rely on before the return period expires.
- Bootloader and ROM changes: Unlocking or converting firmware can cause data loss, break updates or compromise app compatibility. Do not treat a seller’s “global ROM” label as proof of official Lenovo global firmware.
- Updates: The cited materials do not establish a definitive long-term Android or security-update commitment for the 2026 phone. The 2022 model launched on Android 12, but its launch version alone does not show its present security status.
Ask the seller for the exact model number, installed firmware and language, Google Play certification, Widevine level, supported LTE/5G bands, warranty location and return terms. Verify the bands and VoLTE support against your carrier: 5G availability and voice service can vary by model, region and network. A “global ROM” claim does not guarantee carrier compatibility, Android Auto, banking-app operation or local warranty.

The 2026 Y70 appears on Lenovo China product pages, some of which may show pre-sale, sold-out or unavailable status depending on configuration. Older 2022 pages remain useful as specification references, but some variants are discontinued or unavailable. The cited sources do not verify an official U.S. sales listing or global launch for either phone. Buyers outside China should treat an importer listing as gray-market unless Lenovo lists that exact model in their country; availability could change, so check the local Lenovo store for a country-specific listing.

The 2022 CNY 2,970 figure was a Lenovo 2022 promotional price for its 8 GB/128 GB configuration, not a current international price. A stable current numeric price for each 2026 configuration is not established in the cited listings. Importer prices can add seller markup, shipping, customs or taxes, and those costs can erase any apparent advantage over a locally supported phone.
Warranty is a central part of the buying decision, not a footnote. For a China-market import, confirm in writing who handles repairs, where the warranty applies, who pays return shipping, and whether the seller accepts returns if carrier or app compatibility fails. Check charger plug and electrical compatibility as well. An IP rating shown on a variant is not a guarantee that liquid damage will be covered under warranty.
Should you buy the Lenovo Legion Y70?
The 2022 Y70 makes sense only at a compelling used price
Consider it if you want an inexpensive Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 phone, are comfortable with China-market software, and can verify the handset’s condition and return policy. Its OLED screen, 144 Hz capability and 68 W charging remain notable on paper. Avoid it if an import costs nearly as much as a newer globally supported phone, or if long-term updates, camera performance, current flagship gaming headroom or dependable local repairs are priorities.
The 2026 Y70 suits technically confident import buyers
It is the more compelling Y70 for gaming-focused buyers who value a newer processor, very large battery and fast wired charging—and who accept China-ROM and warranty uncertainty. Do not pay a substantial premium for memory you will not use, and do not base the purchase on the reported peak-brightness figure or camera megapixels alone.
Most international buyers should compare global alternatives first
If dependable local support, carrier operation, Google services and software updates matter more than owning this particular Legion phone, compare it with a globally sold flagship or gaming phone. A mainstream flagship may be a better fit for camera quality and service access; a global gaming phone may offer gaming-specific controls and accessories. Check current model availability, update commitments, bands, warranty and live prices in your own country before comparing value.
Quick Recap
Import checklist
- Get the exact model number and RAM/storage configuration, not only the marketplace title.
- Ask for the installed ROM/firmware version, system language, Google Play certification and confirmation of whether the software was altered by the seller.
- Match the model’s LTE/5G bands and VoLTE support to your carrier; confirm any essential services such as Android Auto with the seller and carrier where possible.
- Confirm written warranty coverage, repair location, return window, return-shipping responsibility and the process for a compatibility-related return.
- Calculate the total landed cost, including shipping, customs or taxes, and check the charger plug and regional electrical compatibility.
- On arrival, test your SIM, calls, mobile data, Wi-Fi, NFC, Google-dependent apps, notifications and banking or DRM apps while the return window is still open.
