What to check before choosing a shifter
A shifter’s two modes do not guarantee it will work with your wheel or console. Confirm the exact model’s platform support and how it connects to your setup. In particular, distinguish a direct USB connection to a PC from a proprietary port on a wheel base; on some products, the connection path affects compatibility or available modes.

Which shifter fits your connection setup?
For a PC with a non-matching wheel base
Start with a model that has a documented direct-PC connection. Thrustmaster recommends USB directly to a Windows PC for the TH8A. Its support guidance cautions that connecting the shifter through a Thrustmaster wheel base on PC may enable only sequential mode. The SHH HUBB is also listed as USB-connected and PC-only. For the Fanatec SQ V1.5, Fanatec documents the optional ClubSport USB Adapter as the PC route when using another brand of wheel; check the current regional package listing rather than assuming the adapter is included.

For a Fanatec wheel base or console setup
The ClubSport SQ V1.5 can connect through a compatible Fanatec product with a shifter port on PC. Fanatec specifies that console operation goes through a Fanatec wheel base/racing wheel, not the USB Adapter. The TH8A’s manufacturer guidance likewise directs console users to connect through a Thrustmaster base, subject to the applicable compatibility details.
For a MOZA wheel base
The MOZA HGP has two documented connection routes: USB to a PC or RJ11 to a compatible MOZA wheel base. Its cited support page describes a 7+R H-pattern shifter and does not identify a sequential mode, so do not choose it on the assumption that it switches between H-pattern and sequential operation.

What the mode and gear labels mean
H-pattern shifters place gears in a gated layout, while sequential operation uses forward and backward movement for upshifts and downshifts. The product labels specify the available modes and gate layouts, not whether a particular game supports your chosen control mapping. Thrustmaster’s manual describes the TH8A as plug and play over PC USB but notes that a game update or control mapping may be needed in some cases.

Mounting and package details to verify
SHH states that buyers select a mount and gate plate for the HUBB and lists the cable and knobs in its product description. Its page also describes reversible plates, mode locking, and independent H/SQ adjustment; these are manufacturer-described features, not independently tested findings. For all models, confirm package contents and mount fit from the current regional listing before ordering, since the available evidence does not establish that every retailer or region includes the same parts.

A practical selection path
- Write down your platform and wheel base. Note whether you play on PC or console and the exact base model.
- Choose the connection route. For console, follow the manufacturer’s specified wheel-base path. For PC, check direct USB, a compatible shifter port, or a required adapter.
- Confirm both modes. If you need H-pattern and sequential, choose a model whose manufacturer documents both; the MOZA HGP page establishes H-pattern operation only.
- Match the gate and installation. Check forward gears, reverse arrangement, mount selection, cable, and adapter details against your rig and current package listing.
- Check game support and mapping. Consult the game’s controls and the product manual; a compatible physical connection does not by itself establish that every game has a ready-made mapping.
