First, press the power button on the TV itself, then check its power connection and try a different wall outlet. If the TV has sound but no picture, that is a different problem from a set that shows no signs of power. Work through the checks below before considering a reset or contacting support; use instructions for your exact model, especially for Insignia and onn TVs.
First identify what “won’t turn on” means
Note what happens when you press Power: does the TV show a light or logo, make a sound, or respond briefly and then go dark? A set that powers on but has sound and no picture is not necessarily failing to receive power. Roku’s troubleshooting guidance addresses both cases, but they are distinct symptoms and may call for different help. Try the TV’s own power button
Press the physical power button on the TV, rather than relying only on the remote. Its location varies by model; check the TV’s manual if you cannot find it. Sony’s Help Guide recommends this distinction: if the set turns on using its own button, the remote may be the issue, not the TV’s power supply. Check the remote separately rather than treating that result as a TV power failure. Sony Help Guide: “The TV does not turn on”

- Make sure the power cord is firmly connected at the TV and at the wall. Sony also advises checking that the TV’s power switch is on, if the model has one. Sony USA: “My TV has no picture, no power, or the LED light blinks or flashes red” (modified February 19, 2025).
- Test the TV in a different wall outlet that you know works. For a Roku TV, connect directly to the wall for this check; remove a power strip or extension cord from the setup.
- If the TV is connected to a GFCI outlet and power may have been interrupted, check whether its Reset button needs pressing.
Roku’s direct-wall and outlet checks are for Roku TVs. Do not assume every Insignia or onn model uses the same hardware or operating system.

For Sony TVs, try a power reset
If the cord and outlet are sound, Sony’s Help Guide recommends unplugging the TV’s power cord from the mains for two minutes. Reconnect it, then wait about 10–20 seconds for the TV to initialize before pressing Power again. This is a reversible power reset, not a factory reset; follow the guidance for your exact model and platform.
For Roku TVs, treat factory reset as a last resort
A factory reset removes personalized information and means going through Guided Setup again. Try the basic power checks first, and consult Roku’s instructions for the particular TV design before using a reset button. Roku describes several methods, not one universal procedure:

- Some sets have a recessed Reset button on the rear. Roku says it can be pressed with a straightened paper clip or ball-point pen for approximately 12 seconds.
- Roku Pro Series TVs use a different two-button method.
- Some sets without a Reset button may use a 10-second hold of the TV’s power button.
These methods vary by design. Do not use one method just because it worked on another Roku TV; check Roku’s model-specific reset instructions first. A reset is not a supported diagnosis or fix for a failed internal component.

Find the right support route for Insignia and onn
Insignia and onn sell Roku TVs, but their product lines can include other operating systems and different models. Roku’s support directory lists manufacturer support routes for Insignia and onn Roku TVs; it is not a universal troubleshooting guide for every television sold under those brands. Roku’s manufacturer support directory was last updated October 6, 2026.

- Find the model number on the TV’s rear panel, or—if the TV can be navigated—open Settings > System > About.
- Use the support page for that exact manufacturer and model. Confirm the operating system and model before following reset or repair instructions.
When to stop troubleshooting and contact support
If the physical button, a secure cord connection and a known-working outlet do not restore operation, use the manufacturer’s support route for the exact model or arrange service. Sony says a continuing power issue may require repair. Roku likewise directs customers to the manufacturer when its checks do not resolve a Roku TV that will not power on or has no picture and only plays sound. The symptom alone does not establish whether a power board, backlight or another internal part has failed, so do not open the TV or attempt an internal repair.
