If your TV says the Wi-Fi password is wrong, first confirm the network name and current password, then test that same network on another device. These checks help distinguish a typo or stale saved password from a TV, router, signal, or internet problem. Follow the steps below in order; menu names vary by TV model.
1. Check the network name and password
Make sure the TV is trying to join the same Wi-Fi network (SSID) your phone or computer uses. Routers may broadcast more than one network name, so a correct password for one network will not work for another.

- Enter the password currently used by a device connected to that exact network. A device that joined automatically may still be using a saved credential, so its connection does not prove an older password is still valid.
- Check uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and characters that look alike on the TV’s remote keyboard. If the TV has a show-password option, inspect the entry before submitting.
- If the router password was changed, remove or update the TV’s saved network details if its settings allow it, then connect again with the new password. Sony notes that a BRAVIA TV may keep trying the old password after a change; Wi-Fi can be toggled off and on before reconnecting. See Sony’s BRAVIA connection guidance.
- If you have forgotten the password, check the router’s label or ask your internet provider or router manufacturer how to recover or reset it. A reset may affect other devices, so confirm the consequences first. Roku’s network-name and password guidance also recommends checking the exact network and password.
2. Find out whether the problem is only on the TV
Try connecting a phone, tablet, or laptop to the same Wi-Fi network. This quick comparison narrows down where to troubleshoot.

Check whether the router is powered on and whether there is a service interruption.
- Other devices connect: Focus on the TV’s selected network, saved settings, signal where the TV sits, and the TV’s connection-status results.
LG advises checking another device when diagnosing a TV connection problem; if the TV alone fails, network settings or a TV fault may be involved. See LG’s TV internet connection guidance.

- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
3. Restart the TV and network equipment
A restart can clear a temporary connection error. Use the TV manufacturer’s normal restart or power-cycle procedure, then restart the modem and router if other devices are also having trouble. Wait for the network equipment to come back online before trying the TV again.
- Restart the TV or streaming device using its normal menu or manufacturer guidance.
- If needed, restart the modem and router, then wait until they have finished reconnecting.
- Return to the TV’s network settings, select the correct SSID, and enter the confirmed current password.
- If the TV offers a forget-network or reset-network option, use it only if needed to remove stale saved details, then reconnect.
Roku recommends restarting both the player and network equipment as part of troubleshooting. See Roku’s Wi-Fi connection troubleshooting. A factory reset is more disruptive than a restart or clearing saved network details; treat it as a later, model-specific step rather than an initial fix.

- Dual-band Wi-Fi with 5 GHz speeds up to 867 Mbps and 2.4 GHz speeds up to 300 Mbps, delivering 1200 Mbps of total bandwidth¹. Dual-band routers do not support 6 GHz. Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- Covers up to 1,000 sq. ft. with four external antennas for stable wireless connections and optimal coverage.
- Supports IGMP Proxy/Snooping, Bridge and Tag VLAN to optimize IPTV streaming
- Access Point Mode - Supports AP Mode to transform your wired connection into wireless network, an ideal wireless router for home
- Advanced Security with WPA3 - The latest Wi-Fi security protocol, WPA3, brings new capabilities to improve cybersecurity in personal networks
4. Check whether the TV can see the network
If the network name is missing from the TV’s list, rescan for available networks and confirm Wi-Fi is enabled on the router. Consider whether distance, walls, or other obstructions may be weakening the signal. If no network names appear in the TV’s network settings, LG advises contacting its support team.

- NIGHTHAWK WIFI 6 ROUTER FOR YOUR WHOLE HOME: Delivers fast, reliable WiFi across every room of your apartment or small home for streaming, gaming, video calls, and smart home devices, all running at the same time without slowing each other down.
- WORKS WITH YOUR EXISTING INTERNET SERVICE: Pairs with your existing modem or gateway via ethernet. Compatible with most cable, fiber, DSL, and satellite providers. Some gateways and modem router combos may require bridge mode. No coax needed.
- SET UP AND MANAGE YOUR NETWORK WITH THE NIGHTHAWK APP: Download the free Nighthawk app on iOS or Android for guided setup. Manage WiFi, run speed tests, pause devices, and set up guest networks from anywhere. Active internet required.
- READY FOR THE DEVICES YOU ALREADY OWN: Your phones, laptops, and TVs work right out of the box. WiFi 6 delivers speeds up to 1.8 Gbps across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Backward compatible with WiFi 5 and earlier.
- COVERAGE IN EVERY ROOM: Covers up to 1,500 sq. ft. for up to 20 connected devices. Walls, floors, and interference can reduce range. Larger or multi-story homes may benefit from a NETGEAR Orbi mesh WiFi system.
5. Check whether Wi-Fi connected but internet access did not
Joining the router and reaching the internet are separate stages. Run the TV’s network status or connection test if available. If it reports that Wi-Fi is connected but streaming apps cannot get online, check the router’s internet connection and your provider’s service rather than repeatedly changing the Wi-Fi password.
Connection tests can help distinguish a password error from weak signal or another connection failure. Samsung recommends using the TV’s network status test when troubleshooting. See Samsung’s Wi-Fi troubleshooting guidance.

6. Use Ethernet only as a workaround
If the TV has an Ethernet port, connecting it to the router by cable may provide a more stable wired connection while you troubleshoot Wi-Fi. Check the specific TV for a port and make sure the cable can reach. Ethernet bypasses wireless authentication; it does not fix the Wi-Fi password problem. Roku describes wired networking as an option for players or TVs equipped with an Ethernet port in its connection-check guidance.
