First, work out whether “white noise” means static coming from the speakers or snow-like interference on the screen. Then check whether it happens on one channel or device, or across every source. Speaker noise and picture problems have different likely causes, so this distinction helps you choose the right checks.
Is the noise coming from the speakers or the screen?
Listen for static, hiss, buzzing, or humming from the TV speakers. If the picture instead looks like moving snow or the TV displays “No Signal,” treat it as a picture or reception problem. A TV can also have both symptoms, so note whether they appear together.

Next, switch between channels and connected devices, such as a streaming box, game system, or disc player. If the problem is limited to one source, check that source and its connection before assuming the TV itself is faulty. If it appears across multiple sources, focus on the TV and its connections.

If you hear static, hiss, buzzing, or humming
- Secure the connections. Check that the TV’s audio and coaxial cables are firmly connected. If you use a box or receiver, check its connections too.
- Compare channels and devices. Try another channel, then test another device on the same input if one is available. If the noise occurs with only one box or device, inspect that source and its cable.
- Check for nearby interference. Move nearby electronic devices away from the TV temporarily and see whether the sound changes.
- Test a replacement cable only when relevant. If your setup uses HDMI and reseating or comparing the connection points to that cable, try another HDMI cable. Samsung’s guidance also includes replacing an audio connection cable, such as HDMI or RF coaxial, when applicable.
- Power-reset the TV. If the noise continues across channels or devices, follow the reset procedure for your specific TV model rather than using a generic button sequence.
Sony Support says, “If the issue still occurs, repair may be required.” If static remains after checking sources and connections, consult the manufacturer’s model-specific support instructions.

If the screen shows snow or “No Signal”
For a box or other HDMI device
- Confirm the TV is set to the input where the device is connected and that the device is powered on.
- Reseat the HDMI cable at both ends. If the problem continues, try another port or, when the connection is suspect, another cable.
- Compare with another source device if possible. If other sources work, investigate the original device or its service connection.
LG explains that “No Signal” means the TV is not receiving a signal from the connected set-top box or service provider; its guidance is to check the selected input and connected device. Roku likewise advises checking the input and cable connection when a cable or satellite box reports no signal.
For over-the-air antenna channels
- Make sure the coaxial cable is firmly connected to the TV and antenna.
- Rescan for channels using your TV’s channel or antenna settings.
- Adjust the antenna’s position and test reception again. Roku recommends trying a higher location or a spot near a window, and moving the antenna away from possible interference sources such as routers, LED bulbs, and large metal appliances.
Channel availability depends on location and antenna placement. The menu path and available scan options vary by TV model; Roku’s antenna instructions apply to Roku TVs.

When to contact TV support
Contact the TV manufacturer if speaker noise continues across multiple sources after connection checks and a model-specific reset. For persistent picture or reception problems, use the manufacturer’s manual or support guidance after checking the relevant input, device, or antenna setup. These checks can narrow down the cause, but they do not diagnose a hardware fault.
