Yes, you can connect earbuds to a TV—but the method depends on the television or streaming device, its audio outputs, and the connection supported by your earbuds. For a purpose-built setup, Sennheiser TV Clear Set II includes a transmitter; for other earbuds, direct Bluetooth or a compatible add-on transmitter may work. No single option is best for every TV, and Bluetooth can introduce lip-sync delay.
Five TV earbud options, matched to different needs
This is a shortlist by use case, not a verified five-way ranking: the available product coverage does not establish comparable TV-specific testing across five current earbud models. Check compatibility with your exact equipment before buying.

1. Sennheiser TV Clear Set II: a purpose-built TV set
The set includes earbuds, a charging case, a transmitter, USB-C cables, and optical and 3.5 mm cables. Sennheiser says the transmitter uses low-latency streaming, supports Dolby 5.1, and provides in-sync TV audio. Its product specifications list five speech-clarity levels, up to 20 dB amplification, ambient awareness, and independent earbud volume. These are manufacturer claims, not independent measurements. See Sennheiser’s TV Clear Set II specifications.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
2. Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds: general-purpose noise cancellation
TechRadar includes Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds among candidates in its TV headphone guide. That makes them a general-purpose option to consider, not a guarantee of low-latency compatibility with every television. Check whether your TV can send Bluetooth audio and whether the resulting delay is acceptable. Read TechRadar’s TV headphone guide.
3. Apple AirPods Pro 3: an Apple TV ecosystem candidate
TechRadar describes streamlined Apple TV integration and spatial-audio features for AirPods Pro 3. These are ecosystem-specific conveniences: confirm support for your exact Apple TV and earbud generation rather than assuming that any Bluetooth TV will pair or remain in sync. 4. Earbuds plus a compatible TV transmitter: a flexible add-on route
If your TV does not offer Bluetooth audio, or direct pairing produces unsuitable delay, a Bluetooth transmitter connected to an available TV audio output may provide another route. This is an accessory-based setup, not an earbud model. Choose a transmitter that matches the TV’s output—such as optical or 3.5 mm—and the connection requirements of the earbuds. RTINGS notes that Bluetooth can have high audio lag and that a low-latency codec only helps when the source and receiver support a compatible path; some sources need an adapter or transmitter. RTINGS explains headphone latency and codec support.
5. Auracast-capable earbuds: an emerging broadcast-audio option
Auracast can let a compatible transmitter broadcast audio to compatible receivers, but support is not universal. Bluetooth SIG’s 2025 accessibility report lists receiver earbuds and examples of television models and retrofit transmitters that support broadcast audio. Verify the exact TV or transmitter and earbuds; the feature name alone does not establish compatibility. Read the Bluetooth SIG accessibility report.

Can you connect earbuds to your TV?
Often, but “smart TV” does not necessarily mean the TV can send audio to Bluetooth earbuds. Check the manual and audio menus for the exact television and, if you watch through a separate streaming device, check that device too. Some setups allow Bluetooth pairing directly; others need a transmitter connected to an audio output. Your earbuds and the transmitting device must support the same connection path.
For a transmitter setup, first identify an available TV audio output, such as optical or 3.5 mm, then match the transmitter’s input to it. The TV Clear Set II bundle includes both optical and 3.5 mm cables, but other products may not. Check whether connecting headphones changes the TV’s built-in speaker output: independent earbud and TV volume is product-specific, not a universal feature.

How to reduce Bluetooth audio delay
- Check the audio route. Look in the television’s audio or Bluetooth menu and consult its manual. If a streaming device supplies the picture and sound, check its Bluetooth audio support as well.
- Pair the earbuds and test dialogue. Use a familiar scene with visible speech. If the sound is out of sync, check the TV’s audio-sync or lip-sync setting and adjust it if available.
- Consider a transmitter if direct Bluetooth is unavailable or unsuitable. Match the transmitter to an audio output on the TV. A transmitter cannot guarantee zero delay; TV processing, the source device, codec path, and settings all affect synchronization.
- Verify codec support end to end. A low-latency codec is useful only if the transmitting source or adapter and the earbuds both support a compatible path. Do not assume the TV supports a codec simply because the earbuds do.
As a point of comparison—not an earbud recommendation—Sennheiser states approximately 50 ms system latency for its RS 255 over-ear system, which uses LC3 over Bluetooth LE Audio. That figure applies to that system, not to Bluetooth earbuds generally. See Sennheiser’s RS 255 FAQ.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhat to prioritize when choosing
- Connection first: Confirm Bluetooth audio support or the required TV output and transmitter input before comparing sound features.
- Dialogue clarity: Speech enhancement, EQ, or separate volume controls can matter more for TV than music-oriented features. Check which controls are actually included.
- Comfort and awareness: Consider fit during long viewing and whether you need to hear people or sounds in the room. TechRadar says its TV assessments consider comfort, dialogue, ecosystem, and TV-specific use; those editorial criteria do not establish universal fit or compatibility.
- Battery and shared listening: Check stated battery figures and whether the product lets you adjust earbud and speaker volume independently if others are watching.
- Ecosystem features: Apple TV integration or Auracast support can be useful only when the devices at both ends support the relevant feature.
What about the original Sennheiser TV Clear Set?
Sennheiser’s US lifecycle page marks the earlier TV Clear Set as end of life and unavailable for purchase on that site. Treat it as a discontinued option there; if considering a listing elsewhere, verify that it is a complete set and not spare earbuds, and check the seller and compatibility.
