What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Yes: an exchange can send funds to a Turnkey wallet if it supports the exact token and network used by the receiving account. To offer a routed Canopy checkout instead, bind the signed-in user’s chosen Turnkey account on your server, create and save a Canopy payment intent for that destination, and treat a verified settlement webhook—not a browser event—as confirmation. Funding a Turnkey signer does not automatically fund a separate smart account.
Choose direct exchange withdrawal or routed checkout
A direct exchange withdrawal is the simplest option when the exchange supports the exact asset and network required by your app. The user sends funds straight to the receiving account; this does not require a Canopy intent. A matching address format alone is not enough to identify the right network, especially for EVM-compatible networks.

Canopy is useful when you want checkout to provide deposit instructions for a supported, provisioned route and report settlement to your backend. Its API documentation describes the end-user pattern this way: “Create a payment intent for each end user who is about to move funds, then hand that user a deposit address unique to them.”
| Approach | What it does | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Direct exchange withdrawal | Sends an asset from the exchange to the selected wallet address without a Canopy intent. | The exchange supports the exact token and destination network; the address belongs to the account whose balance your app intends to show. |
| Canopy payment intent | Provides checkout and deposit instructions for a Canopy-supported and merchant-provisioned route, with settlement reporting. | Source asset and network, destination chain and token, route minimum, payout controls, and merchant configuration. |
| LI.FI Smart Deposit Addresses | LI.FI describes unique deposit addresses that can orchestrate swaps, cross-chain transfers, vault deposits, and composed actions. | Whether its supported combinations and actions fit your destination and reporting requirements; availability for a particular app or route is not established here. |
Compare providers against the exact source and destination combinations you need, whether conversion or a composed action is required, route minimums and availability, control over payout destinations, and settlement reporting. There is no universal best choice established by these capabilities alone.

Confirm the destination and route before accepting funds
This integration pattern assumes that Turnkey authentication and wallet creation already work, and that your application can map a signed-in user to the specific Turnkey organization, wallet, and wallet account they selected. Your app also needs to supply session verification, account binding, durable deposit storage, a backend API, webhook persistence, reconciliation, and a user-scoped status endpoint; these are application responsibilities, not methods supplied by Canopy.
Before enabling deposits, decide which destination chain and token the application will credit or display, then confirm the supported source routes and minimum amount with Canopy. The tutorial’s Base example uses chain reference 8453; that example does not show that a Base route is enabled for your merchant. Canopy per-intent destinations require both the merchant’s per-intent-destination setting to be enabled and Canopy to provision the route with Dynamic payout mode.
- Confirm the source asset and exchange withdrawal network that checkout will accept.
- Confirm the destination chain, token, route minimum, and payout mode with Canopy.
- Decide whether the receiving address is a Turnkey wallet account or a distinct smart-account address.
- Do not open deposits until the route and destination shown to the user agree.
Resolve the user’s chosen Turnkey account on the server
Do not accept a wallet address supplied by the browser as the payout destination. The browser should ask to create or resume a deposit for the authenticated user; the backend should verify the user’s session or provider token, resolve the already-approved account through an authenticated provider query or a previously verified mapping, and check that the user is allowed to fund it.

Store the selected organization ID, wallet ID, and wallet-account ID alongside the address. A wallet may derive multiple accounts, so selecting the first result in a list can silently change the destination when another account is added. Reject ambiguous account selection, and enforce a unique ownership constraint for each user destination.
For a smart account, map its actual receiving address separately. Sending funds to the Turnkey signer address funds that address; it does not automatically fund a separate smart account. The address displayed to the user must be the one whose balance the app will track.
Create the intent and persist its owner-destination relationship
The server-side helper creates the intent at Canopy’s /api/v1/intents endpoint with a server-only bearer secret, a Canopy-Version header, and JSON. The destination is represented by the payout wallet, namespace, chain reference, and token address. Canopy documents the destination as write-once after intent creation, so resolve and validate it before making the request.

- Authenticate and bind: verify the session and resolve the user’s selected Turnkey account from a trusted mapping or authenticated lookup.
- Reserve or resume: create or retrieve a local deposit record for that user and immutable destination. Serialize concurrent creates for the same destination.
- Create or reuse: call Canopy from the backend with the approved destination and route parameters. Never expose the bearer secret to the browser.
- Persist before returning: save the intent ID, Canopy inbox address, destination, Turnkey account identifier, and application user ID before sending the intent ID to the client.
- Show the right status: return only the user-scoped information needed for checkout and deposit status; keep the Canopy inbox distinct from the receiving Turnkey address in storage and in the interface.
Canopy permits at most one active intent for a matching merchant account, payout namespace, chain, wallet, and token. A matching create returns the existing intent with created: false and a fresh widget token; retrying this way rotates the previous widget token. A create request without destination fields always creates a new intent. There is no request idempotency key: merchantReference is for correlation, not request deduplication. Persisting the relationship and serializing creates therefore matter even when the provider reuses a matching intent. If a request times out, retain the uncertain local reservation and reconcile it rather than assuming that no intent was created.

Show checkout without confusing the two addresses
For Canopy inline checkout, register the exact HTTPS origin against the publishable key: scheme, host, and port, with no path, query, or fragment. The embed guide uses the SDK’s mount() function and supports surface: "auto"; if the frame cannot complete its handshake, that setting falls back to a popup button. Destroy the returned handle when the component unmounts.
Place the receiving wallet and destination network near checkout so users can identify which account they are funding. In checkout, the user selects an enabled source asset and network, then copies the provided deposit address into the exchange withdrawal flow. Tell them to select that exact network in the exchange. Do not label the Canopy inbox as the user’s permanent universal wallet address: it is a deposit instruction associated with the intent, not the receiving Turnkey address.

Confirm settlement from a verified server-side event
A checkout browser event is not proof that your application should fulfill a deposit. The inline checkout guide describes the browser’s paid event as indicating that the payer’s transfer was seen on-chain, but it is advisory. Confirm fulfillment with a server-side status check or, in this integration pattern, a verified settlement webhook.
- Keep the raw request body: signature verification must use the original body, not a parsed-and-reserialized substitute.
- Verify before trusting: validate Canopy’s signature and timestamp using the documented
webhook-id,webhook-timestamp, andwebhook-signatureheaders. Canopy documents astandardwebhooksverifier that checks the signature and timestamp tolerance. - Durably record delivery: persist the verified delivery before acknowledging it. Deduplicate by delivery ID, and make the resulting business effect idempotent as well.
- Reconcile asynchronously: match the event to the saved intent and owner, then act only when the verified payload’s
stateissettled.
Canopy’s documented webhook body is flat and has a state field; it does not require an outer event.type wrapper. Canopy says payment.settled is currently emitted with state: "settled"; payment.failed is documented but is not currently emitted. Do not infer settlement from intent creation, a browser callback, or a failure event that the service does not currently emit.
Keep amount fields such as netUnits and feeUnits as integer strings until you have confirmed the relevant route’s units and decimals. A wallet balance refresh and an internal ledger credit are different operations: if your app displays assets held in the wallet, record funding history without inventing a second spendable balance.
Know what has—and has not—been verified
The tutorial reports that its example application passed a production build, fixture tests, a browser exercise, and a restart-persistence check using specified dependency versions. Those checks used synthetic accounts and Canopy responses. They do not establish that real Turnkey account lookup, hosted Canopy checkout, or a funded settlement has been verified, so validate those steps in your own configured environment before relying on them.
Keep this crypto payment flow distinct from Canopy’s separately named investor-allocation funding product, which concerns funding an investment allocation rather than exchange deposits into a Turnkey wallet.
