Turn One Topic Into 10 Content Hooks With n8n’s Free Gallery Template

n8n’s official gallery lists a free template that uses OpenAI GPT-4o-mini to generate 10 JSON content hooks from a topic, audience, and tone. Here’s how it works and what to expect.

If writing the opening line is slowing down your content workflow, an n8n template can generate 10 short hooks from three inputs: a topic, an audience, and a tone. The official n8n gallery lists it as “Generate social content hooks with OpenAI GPT-4o-mini,” credits Haopeng Zhang, and marks it “Use for free.” You still need an OpenAI credential or connection, and you run the workflow manually.

What the template does

You provide a subject, who the content is for, and the tone you want. The workflow sends those inputs to OpenAI GPT-4o-mini and returns a hooks field containing 10 hooks as JSON, according to the official n8n gallery listing. The result is a set of starting points, not a finished post or a guarantee that any line will perform well.

The gallery listing describes manual execution and suggests extending the workflow with downstream nodes to store, email, or publish the results. That makes the template a useful starting point for a repeatable process, but it does not itself establish an automated publishing schedule.

What you need to run it

  • An n8n workflow environment where you can import and run the gallery template.
  • An OpenAI credential or connection configured for the workflow.
  • A topic, a target audience, and a tone to enter before execution.

The template is marked “Use for free” in the gallery. That label applies to using the template; the listing does not state that an OpenAI credential or any associated service usage is free, nor does it specify a required n8n plan.

How Zhang describes the workflow

In his account of the implementation, Haopeng Zhang breaks it into four nodes: a Manual Trigger, Edit Fields (Set) fields for topic, audience, and tone, an OpenAI node using GPT-4o-mini, and output in a hooks field. The gallery independently confirms the manual run, three inputs, model, and JSON hooks output, but does not enumerate that exact node sequence.

Zhang says the prompt asks for two hooks in each of five styles:

  • Contrarian: challenges a common assumption.
  • Curiosity gap: encourages the reader to find out what comes next.
  • Result-first: leads with an outcome.
  • Story: uses a narrative opening.
  • Question: frames the hook as a question.

These are the prompt’s requested formats, not evidence that one style will outperform another. The available account does not report comparative testing of the styles or the generated hooks.

Set it up and run it

  1. Import the gallery template into n8n. Open the listed workflow in the n8n gallery and use its workflow-import option in your n8n environment.
  2. Connect OpenAI. Add or select an OpenAI credential for the workflow’s OpenAI node. The gallery listing identifies this connection as part of setup.
  3. Enter your brief. Replace the example values with a specific topic, a defined audience, and the tone you want. For instance, “AI automations for small teams,” “busy founders,” and “direct” are the inputs used in Zhang’s example.
  4. Run the workflow manually. Start the workflow with its manual trigger. The output should include the hooks in the JSON hooks field.
  5. Review before reuse. Check that each line is accurate for your subject and appropriate for your audience before putting it into a post or sending it to a publishing destination.

What the example can—and cannot—show

For the example brief about AI automations for small teams aimed at busy founders in a direct tone, Zhang displays sample hooks about replacing SaaS subscriptions, practical AI founders need, copy-and-paste work, a Monday report, and a 20-minute build. Those are illustrative examples supplied by the author, not independently tested outputs.

The sources do not establish hook quality, engagement gains, time saved, or other performance results. Treat the generated lines as drafts to select and edit, rather than as proven copy or a substitute for checking claims.

Extend the workflow to fit your process

The gallery says you can add downstream nodes to store, email, or publish the generated results. Choose the next step based on what happens to your hooks after review:

  • For a content backlog: send approved hooks to a spreadsheet or another storage destination, with fields that preserve the topic, audience, tone, and review status.
  • For a review handoff: route the JSON output to an email or another review step before publication.
  • For publishing: connect a destination only if it fits your existing workflow, and retain a human approval step where accuracy or brand voice matters.

The gallery names Google Sheets, email, and social publishing as possible extensions. It does not document a particular integration configuration or an automatic approval mechanism, so those details depend on the nodes and services you add.

Publishing a template of your own

Zhang also describes his submission experience. He recommends using clear section headers and visual organization, including color and sizing notes, so reviewers can understand the workflow, and says the setup section needs more than 50 words. He characterizes review as an AI pass followed by a human pass. These are Zhang’s account and advice, not requirements independently established by the official listing reviewed here.
