Google calls this feed Discover; the swipe panel on your home screen may depend on your phone’s launcher, so a separate home-screen setting may be needed if it remains.
Turn off Discover in the Google app
- Open the Google app.
- Tap your profile picture or initial in the top-right corner.
- Tap Settings, then General.
- Switch Discover off.
This disables Discover through the Google app setting. Google notes that settings may be updated, so labels can vary.

- Look for a launcher setting that controls the home-screen feed or Google-app panel, if one is available.
Android home-screen settings vary by device. Google does not document one universal switch or label that removes the panel across all launchers. If no relevant control appears, check the device maker’s home-screen or launcher settings. Android Help explains how to open Home settings, but the available controls depend on the device.
Discover and Google News are different controls
Turning off Discover is not the same as changing its recommendations or customizing the Google News app. Discover personalization and topic controls adjust what the feed shows; they do not turn off the feed. Google News has separate controls for its Following feed, interests, and story sources. Google News Help describes its feed and content controls.
