You can use a tablet to display photos from an Immich library with ImmichFrame, provided Immich is already running and the tablet can reach it. The project documents Android and iOS app options; supported iPads can also use its web app as a home-screen PWA. The “less than five minutes” timing is not an official benchmark, so it should be treated as an individual result—not a promise for every setup.
What you need before you start
This is a display setup, not an Immich server installation. Have a running Immich server, a working account or configured access, and a tablet that can connect to that server. If you still need to create the server, budget for that separately: Immich’s Docker-based Quick start lists a minimum of 6 GB RAM and 2 CPU cores. Those are server requirements, not a measure of tablet-frame setup time. See Immich’s Quick start.

ImmichFrame’s app documentation describes Android and iOS options, while the iPad PWA is an alternative documented for iPad users. Check the current project page for app availability and instructions: ImmichFrame Apps documentation.

Android tablet
- Open the ImmichFrame app listing linked from the project’s Apps documentation and install the Android app if it is available for your device.
- Open the app and follow its current connection instructions to reach your Immich server. Use the server address and access details you already use; make sure the tablet can reach that address over its network.
- Choose the photos or source you want to display using the controls provided by your installed version. The documentation cited here does not establish identical screen-selection controls across releases, so confirm the choices shown in your app.
iPad app
The ImmichFrame documentation lists iOS 17 or later and iPad 6th generation or newer for its iOS app. If your iPad meets those requirements, install the app through the channel linked from the project documentation and follow its current connection and display setup.

iPad PWA
If you prefer not to use the app, ImmichFrame documents a browser-based option: open ImmichFrame in the browser, tap Share, then choose Add to Homescreen. The exact browser presentation may vary. Do not assume that this route hides the address bar or browser controls on every iPad and browser combination.
Decide which photos the frame can show
Choose a source deliberately rather than exposing more of your library than you intend. Immich supports local shared albums and configurable public links. A public link can be protected with a password and given an expiration date, but anyone with access to the link may be able to view the shared content according to its settings. Review Immich’s Sharing documentation and the controls in your current ImmichFrame release before relying on a particular album or link workflow.

Make it work as a frame
Once the tablet is connected and showing the intended photos, position it where you want to view it. A stand or mount can help with placement, but it is optional; the software setup does not require one. Test the display on the exact tablet and browser or app you plan to leave running. Full-screen behavior is not established across all combinations, so verify whether browser controls remain visible before treating a PWA as a borderless frame.

A working slideshow is not a backup. Immich’s Quick start explains that the database contains metadata and user information, while the image and video files in UPLOAD_LOCATION need manual backups. As the documentation puts it: “The database only contains metadata and user information. You must setup manual backups of the images and videos stored in UPLOAD_LOCATION.” See the Immich Quick start for its backup guidance.
