You can use a Qualcomm-based phone or modem as a cellular diagnostic capture source if it exposes a DIAG interface that your computer can access. The open-source QCSuper tool communicates over Qualcomm DIAG (also called QCDM or DM) and can send supported captures to Wireshark or save them as PCAP. “Sniffer” here means examining diagnostic data from the connected device—not intercepting arbitrary nearby phones.
What you can capture—and what you cannot assume
QCSuper describes support for raw 2G, 3G and 4G radio frames, with 5G support limited to certain models. Its documented protocol layers include GSM, GPRS/EDGE, UMTS and LTE; that is not a promise of universal 5G support. Check the project’s QCSuper documentation against your exact device.

The capture is diagnostic data exposed by the phone or modem. By default, QCSuper captures signaling rather than the device’s generated IP traffic; the project documents an option to include IP traffic. This is distinct from passively intercepting cellular communications over the air.
Check compatibility before connecting
A Qualcomm processor is only a starting clue. Whether a usable diagnostic port exists—and how to expose it—depends on the handset or modem, firmware and manufacturer. QCSuper advises checking support at the model level; a cable cannot make an unsupported or hidden DIAG interface available.

- Identify the exact device model and confirm that it uses a Qualcomm platform.
- Look for device-specific documentation showing that Qualcomm DIAG/QCDM/DM is available to a host computer.
- Decide whether you can use an Android ADB path or an exposed USB DIAG port. Some methods require root or vendor-specific steps; there is no universal enabling recipe.
Connect an Android phone
QCSuper documents an ADB route for rooted Android phones, where the host communicates with the device’s diagnostic interface, commonly exposed as /dev/diag. Alternatively, a phone may expose a USB diagnostic port directly. The available route and setup vary by device, so follow instructions for the exact model rather than assuming a Qualcomm phone will expose the same interface.
- Confirm that the phone model has a documented, usable DIAG path.
- If using ADB, check the QCSuper project’s current instructions and the device-specific requirements; this route commonly requires root.
- If using USB DIAG, connect the phone with a data-capable cable and verify that the computer detects the diagnostic interface.
- Use QCSuper’s documented capture workflow to view data in Wireshark or write it to a PCAP file.
Rooting or enabling diagnostic access changes the device’s security posture and may have other device-specific consequences. Do not treat it as a risk-free setting change.

- FAST 4G LTE CONNECTIVITY: Allowed for downloads at speeds up to 150Mbps and uploads 50Mbps for uninterrupted HD streaming, gaming, video calls and more. Please check with preferred carrier on data plan details and limitations. This 4G router works with AT&T and T-Mobile only. (NOT for Verizon or Sprint and SIM Card not included)
- DUAL BAND SIGNAL TECHNOLOGY: With both 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi bands, AC1200 Router will give you a more stable network. 2.4GHz band can meet the basic network tasks, such as web browsing, reading emails, chatting online and more. It will switch to 5GHz frequency band to get a refreshing and practical experience when playing online games or watching HD videos
- 1200MBPS WIFI SIGNAL SPEED: Convert 4G LTE signal to Wi-Fi providing 900Mbps 5.0GHz and 2.4GHZ 300Mbps speed. It can support 32 devices at the same time, keep all of wireless devices connected
- UNINTERRUPTED NETWORK CONNECTION: 1x RJ45 WAN port to connect to modem; 4x RJ45 Ethernet ports to connect wired device or network switch. Automatically switch to the 4G network when the broadband network is disconnected
- USER-FRIENDLY 4G ROUTER SETUP: Extremely easy to set up for beginners. All you have to do is simply insert your standard 4G SIM card, followed by keying-in the password. No hassle. No extra equipment needed
Connect a USB modem
Some USB modems expose a diagnostic pseudo-serial port over USB. The protocol documentation notes that access may require a vendor-specific command; the command and port vary by modem, so a device-agnostic instruction cannot be relied on.

- Check the modem’s documentation for its DIAG or diagnostic pseudo-serial interface.
- Confirm whether the vendor requires a command or configuration change to expose that port.
- Connect to the detected diagnostic interface using QCSuper’s current project instructions, then choose live Wireshark output or PCAP dumping.
Choose a capture and analysis tool
| Option | Best fit | Connection and access | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| QCSuper | Open-source PCAP generation and live Wireshark analysis on compatible devices | ADB/root or an exposed USB DIAG port, depending on the device | Device support and setup vary; check current project instructions and model compatibility. QCSuper project |
| QXDM Professional | Vendor diagnostic logging and analysis of proprietary messages and events | Diagnostic connection and a Qualcomm USB driver are required; device diagnostic services must be enabled | Qualcomm describes it as subscription-licensed software. Current pricing, availability and eligibility are not stated here; confirm terms with Qualcomm. Qualcomm QXDM Professional |
Qualcomm’s QXDM Professional is a separate vendor tool, not a QCSuper mode. Qualcomm’s guide specifies a Qualcomm USB driver requirement. The vendor page describes subscription licensing, but does not establish a current price or who is eligible.
