What’s actually slowing this PC down?

The reason is not known. In a report published October 2, 2026, Ben Schlappig says Tunisair changed his separately booked Tunis–Marseille reservation from business class to economy shortly before travel. The notice did not explain why, and the available account does not establish whether an aircraft change or cabin configuration played a role.
What happened on the Tunisair booking?
Schlappig says he booked the Tunis (TUN)–Marseille (MRS) segment separately from his Air Algerie itinerary and paid for business class. He says the flight was shown as operated by an Airbus A320. A notice in French showed the same flight in economy instead of business and described changes to the reservation, but did not plainly call it a downgrade or explain the change. His October 2, 2026 report is a first-person account, not an official explanation from Tunisair.
He also says business-class inventory appeared available when he booked and that later he saw cabin inventory at zero. That observation does not independently establish how many seats were occupied, what caused the change, or which aircraft would operate the flight.
Was the aircraft configuration the reason?
It is a possibility to ask about, not a confirmed explanation. The report distinguishes Tunisair A320s with a dedicated business cabin from aircraft where business may be provided by blocking middle seats in part of the economy cabin. It raises the question of whether an all-economy configuration could be involved but does not identify the aircraft assigned to this flight or show that an aircraft substitution occurred.

“Airbus A320” names an aircraft family, not the specific cabin layout on a particular flight. The report does not confirm a wet lease, a government or group booking, or any other explanation mentioned by commenters. Without Tunisair’s case-specific answer, the cause remains unknown.
What should a downgraded passenger ask Tunisair?
Ask for a written explanation rather than treating the aircraft theory as fact. If the booking was made through an agent or another seller, contact that seller as well; Schlappig says this segment was booked separately, so it may have its own ticketing and fare terms.

Regulation (EC) No 261/2004 covers flights departing from an EU airport. For a flight arriving in the EU from outside it, the regulation’s scope condition requires an EU operating carrier. The reported flight departs Tunis, outside the EU, and the report identifies Tunisair as the carrier; on those stated facts, the inbound-flight condition does not appear to be met. Confirm the actual operating carrier and full itinerary before applying that conclusion to an individual claim. See Article 3 of the regulation and the European Commission’s summary.

What Article 10 provides when the regulation applies
When Article 10 applies and an operating carrier places a passenger in a lower class than the one purchased, it requires reimbursement within seven days. The amount is based on the distance and category of flight:
- 30% of the ticket price for flights of 1,500 km or less.
- 50% for intra-EU flights over 1,500 km, subject to the regulation’s stated exception for French overseas departments, and for other flights between 1,500 and 3,500 km.
- 75% for flights not covered by those categories.
These percentages are the statutory downgrade reimbursements in Article 10, not a universal payment for every international flight or an additional fixed cash award. The regulation does not by itself establish what Tunisian law, this passenger’s fare terms, or a separate Tunisair goodwill policy would provide. The full provision is in Article 10 of Regulation (EC) No 261/2004.
