The White House, meanwhile, has promoted faster development of data centers, and Trump has urged communities to welcome them. The estimate is CREW’s calculation from broad disclosure ranges—not an exact portfolio total printed on Trump’s filing—and it does not establish that Trump directed trades or personally benefited from a particular policy.
What does the $9.5 million estimate measure?
CREW’s October 1, 2026 analysis estimates that Trump held between $2.9 million and $9.5 million in investments at the end of 2025 in a group of 11 companies it identified as developing, owning, operating or supplying data-center infrastructure. CREW estimated the value of investments in the same group at $86,000 to $415,000 at the end of 2024, and said the minimum increase was more than 600%.
| Measure | CREW’s estimate | What it represents |
|---|---|---|
| End of 2024 | $86,000–$415,000 | Estimated value of investments in CREW’s selected 11 companies |
| End of 2025 | $2.9 million–$9.5 million | Estimated value of investments in the same 11-company group |
These are CREW’s aggregate estimates, not precise valuations in the government filing. Trump’s 2025 annual OGE Form 278e, received by the Office of Government Ethics on June 29, 2026, reports asset values in broad ranges. CREW used the disclosure to calculate a total for companies it selected. The filing itself does not print $9.5 million as a single total for data-center-related holdings.
Which companies did CREW include?
The estimate covers a varied set of businesses involved in data-center infrastructure. It should not be read as a total for “AI stocks” in the narrow sense: not every company on the list develops AI models, and the companies are not all pure-play data-center operators.

CREW expressly excluded Amazon, Oracle, Microsoft, Google and Meta from its 11-company calculation, though it said adding major technology companies such as these would increase the broader figure. They should not be silently added to the $2.9 million–$9.5 million estimate.
What does Trump’s financial disclosure show—and not show?
The OGE filing is a public disclosure of assets and transactions, with values reported in ranges. It provides information for scrutiny, but those ranges do not reveal an exact market value for each holding. CREW’s total depends both on the filing and on its decision about which companies count as connected to data-center infrastructure.

CREW also reported 292 stock trades among the 11 companies since Trump became president. It says Trump has maintained that he does not direct the trading and that outside brokers buy and sell the stocks. The trade count and the estimated year-end holdings are separate pieces of information: neither, on its own, shows who directed a specific transaction, whether a policy caused an investment gain, or whether a law was violated.
CREW has also reported Trump saying that communities “can’t fight” data-center expansion and describing communities that want data centers as “the smart communities.” Its account describes business ties between Trump and DAMAC chairman Hussain Sajwani, whose subsidiary announced U.S. data-center plans, and says Trump referenced expedited reviews for those projects. A reported business association and public remarks are relevant to accountability; they do not by themselves establish that the administration acted to favor a particular company.

Did Trump’s data-center order make permitting easier?
On July 23, 2025, Trump signed Executive Order 14318, “Accelerating Federal Permitting of Data Center Infrastructure.” The order makes rapid data-center and supporting-infrastructure development an administration priority and directs work to streamline federal permitting and environmental reviews. It also contemplates federal financial support for qualifying projects and authorizations to use federal land, subject to applicable law.
The order defines a data-center project for specified AI uses by a requirement for more than 100 megawatts of new load. Other qualifying-project criteria include at least $500 million in committed capital expenditures or other listed conditions. These thresholds describe the order’s scope; they do not mean every data center automatically qualifies for federal assistance or a federal-land authorization.

Trump stated in the order: “It will be a priority of my Administration to facilitate the rapid and efficient buildout of this infrastructure by easing Federal regulatory burdens.” That is a policy direction to facilitate development, not a blanket waiver of all federal laws or local permitting rules.

No. On March 4, 2026, the White House said Amazon, Google, Meta, Microsoft, OpenAI, Oracle and xAI had signed its Ratepayer Protection Pledge. The administration described commitments to build, bring or buy power generation; cover required power-delivery infrastructure upgrades; negotiate separate rates; make backup resources available; and hire and train local workers.

The pledge is voluntary, not a guarantee that household bills will fall. The Associated Press reported in July 2026 that the pledge was being expanded to governors and electricity companies, while noting it was unclear whether consumers would see genuine savings. At a July 23, 2026 roundtable, Trump described the companies as having “formally committed to fund or build all energy infrastructure required to meet the demand they are placing on the grid.” That is his account of the pledge, not a measured result showing that electricity costs have declined.
Why are communities divided over data centers?
Local concerns go beyond whether people support AI in general. Gallup reported that seven in ten Americans oppose building AI data centers in their local area, including 48% who strongly oppose it; barely a quarter favor construction, with 7% strongly in favor. The date of the underlying poll and the publication year were not confirmed in the cited source passage, so those figures should not be treated as a dated trend or as a measure of opinion on AI overall.
An Associated Press report dated August 20, 2026 described opposition across party lines, with residents raising concerns about electricity bills, water wells, air and noise pollution, and changes to community character. Supporters point to jobs and tax revenue. Those are arguments in the debate, not guaranteed results for every location: the cited reporting does not provide a single comparable project-level dataset that resolves the trade-offs.
The core accountability question is therefore about how public policy, private investment and local costs interact. CREW’s figures document an estimated financial interest in a defined group of companies alongside an administration policy favoring data-center development. They do not prove a personal trade decision, a policy-caused gain or illegal conduct.
