To move one open conversation between ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, the method featured in the referenced article is ThreadPort, a browser extension that hands off a conversation transcript. For a larger archive or a memory profile, use the services’ separate built-in options where available: Gemini accepts chat-history ZIP imports, and Claude offers memory import. Those options do different jobs; none is a universal transfer of everything an assistant knows.
Choose the transfer method by what you need to move
| Your goal | Relevant option | What it does not do |
|---|---|---|
| Continue one active conversation in another assistant | ThreadPort transcript handoff | It is not a memory-profile migration or a full account archive import. |
| Bring a larger ChatGPT or Claude chat archive into Gemini | Gemini’s ZIP import | It does not carry generated images, files, or project attachments as files. |
| Give Claude preferences or remembered context | Claude memory import | It does not import a full chat archive. |
| Move history between personal Claude accounts | Claude provides export for account data | Anthropic says the exported data cannot be imported into another personal Claude account. |
| Move chats between personal ChatGPT accounts | OpenAI’s export-and-upload workaround | It does not merge accounts or recreate each old conversation as a separate chat. |
How ThreadPort hands off an open conversation
ThreadPort is the browser extension described in the Tom’s Guide article published August 24, 2026. The Chrome Web Store listing describes transferring full transcripts among ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, and Mistral, as well as Markdown export. It lists version 0.3.1, updated September 8, 2026, and says the free allowance is 10 transfers per month, with a Pro option for unlimited transfers. These are listing details and may change.

In practical terms, the extension carries the active thread’s transcript into the destination assistant so you can continue with that context. It is a handoff, not a native import into the destination’s conversation archive. The TechRadar report from August 20, 2026 describes it reading messages from one service and inserting them into another, with browser storage used for settings, temporary transfers, and monthly usage count. The report is not a source-code audit, and the extension has not been independently tested for this article.

Review access and privacy before transferring sensitive chats
A browser extension that operates on AI chat pages may have access to sensitive conversation content. Review its current permissions and privacy disclosures before installing or using it. The Chrome Web Store listing says the developer disclosed that it does not collect or use user data; that is the developer’s disclosure, not independent verification of the extension’s security or behavior.

Import a chat archive into Gemini
Google documents an import flow for memory and full chat history from other AI platforms. To bring in ChatGPT or Claude history, export it from the source service and upload the resulting ZIP through Gemini’s Import memory settings. Google’s Gemini Apps Help says the feature requires a personal Google Account and an account holder aged 18 or older. It is unavailable in the EEA, Switzerland, and the UK, and in Gemini in Google Messages, Gemini in Chrome, and Gemini on Android XR.
- Export your data from ChatGPT or Claude using that service’s export option.
- In Gemini, open the Import memory settings and select the option to import chats from another AI platform.
- Upload the ZIP file and wait for processing. Google says processing can take up to a day.
Google sets a maximum ZIP size of 5 GB and allows up to five ZIP uploads per day. Imported conversations appear in Chats with an imported-chat icon; they can be searched and deleted individually. Google’s Gemini import FAQ clarifies that chat text transfers, but generated images and files from the previous app do not. Project attachments are not imported as project files, so upload any needed files to Gemini separately. Google also says an entire ZIP batch can be deleted from Settings.

Bring preferences or remembered context into Claude
Claude’s memory import is for context such as preferences, not for recreating a full conversation archive. Anthropic’s memory import help, dated September 2, 2026, describes a flow on the web and Claude Desktop for Free, Pro, Max, and Team: generate or copy a memory/context description from another AI provider, then paste it into Claude’s import flow.
Anthropic calls memory import experimental and cautions that Claude may not always incorporate imported memories. The memory experience is available on all plans, though some Team and Enterprise users remain on a legacy experience.

Claude: export is not an import route to another personal Claude account
Individual Free, Pro, and Max users can export account data and chat history from Claude web or Desktop. Anthropic says exports cannot be imported into another personal Claude account. For Team and Enterprise, only the organization’s Primary Owner can access exports. The download link expires 24 hours after delivery. See Anthropic’s data-export instructions.
ChatGPT: account-to-account workaround, not a cross-service archive import
OpenAI documents a manual workaround for moving conversations between personal ChatGPT accounts: export the data, then upload conversations.json into a new conversation in the receiving account. OpenAI says this does not merge accounts or recreate the exported conversations as separate chats; the material is available as historical context within that new conversation. The instructions say this process is not available for ChatGPT Business accounts. This is not documented as a full-history import into Claude. See OpenAI’s transfer instructions.

Make the choice that matches your use case
- For one conversation you want to continue elsewhere, consider ThreadPort, but first assess the access a browser extension would have to your chat pages.
- For a large archive destined for Gemini, use Google’s ZIP import if your account and region are eligible, and plan to handle needed attachments separately.
- For preferences and remembered context in Claude, use Claude’s memory import and treat the result as experimental rather than a guaranteed copy.
- For a Claude export or ChatGPT account transfer, follow the source service’s documented limits; neither process should be mistaken for a general-purpose import into another assistant.
