If you want a quick place to capture tasks, see what is next, and set reminders or recurring due dates, Todoist is the simpler starting point. If you want tasks connected to notes and project information in a customizable workspace, Notion can do that, but it takes more setup. Neither choice is established as clinically better for ADHD; the practical question is which workflow you can keep visible and maintain.
How to choose between Todoist and Notion
Start with the job you need the app to do most often. A task-first app can reduce the number of decisions between remembering something and recording it. A workspace can keep tasks alongside the context that explains them, but you need to create and maintain that structure.

What Todoist offers for tasks and routines
Todoist puts tasks at the center of the workflow. Its current plan page lists Smart Quick Add, reminders, list and board layouts, and three filter views on the free Beginner plan. The comparison also marks due dates, recurring due dates, priorities, and subtasks as available across plans. Pro adds a calendar layout, custom task reminders, task duration, deadlines, more filters, and full reporting history. Check the current plan page for the exact feature availability in your region.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsOne distinction matters if you rely on alerts: ordinary task reminders are listed on Beginner, while custom reminders are listed as Pro. Do not assume every reminder control is available on the free plan. Todoist’s pricing page varies by selected country and billing cycle, so there is no single universal price to quote.

What Notion offers for tasks and routines
Notion treats tasks as records in a wider workspace. A database can include dates, status, priority, and other properties, with views tailored to how you want to see the work. That flexibility can be useful when an action needs its notes, project plan, or reference material nearby; the trade-off is that the system needs to be built and looked after.
Reminders are different from recurring task entries
Notion lets you set a reminder on a page or on a database Date property, including a chosen time and advance interval. Depending on your settings and whether Notion is open, notifications may appear in the app, as desktop or mobile push notifications, or by email and mobile push. Its help documentation says recurring reminders are not currently available. See Notion’s reminder guidance.

For a recurring routine, a repeating database template can create a new database page daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, or on a custom schedule. That makes a fresh task record; it does not repeatedly notify you about the same task. New entries show “Created By” as Notion automation, which can affect filters that depend on that property. Notion explains repeating templates here.

Automation has plan limits
Notion database automations can run on triggers such as “Every {frequency}” and can create or edit pages and properties or send notifications. The help page says database automations are available on paid plans. Free users can create Slack notification automations and use existing automations in templates, but cannot edit those automations. Which app is better for ADHD?
There is no established head-to-head evidence here showing that either app improves ADHD symptoms or works better for people with ADHD. The available app overviews discuss tools and features, not treatment efficacy or comparative outcomes. An American Family Physician article from 2022 describes Todoist as balancing power with simplicity, but that is an editorial observation, not a measured ADHD result. A 2022 Transition California roundup includes both apps, but likewise does not establish effectiveness. American Family Physician’s app overview; Transition California’s productivity-app list.
So choose based on the friction you encounter. If you mainly need to remember and act on tasks, Todoist’s more direct task workflow may be easier to start. If you need a task to connect to notes, plans, or project details, Notion’s database approach may suit you better if you are willing to configure it. These are practical inferences from product structure, not clinical recommendations.

Try a small setup before committing
- Pick one recurring problem. Choose a single routine or category of tasks, such as appointments or a weekly household task. Do not begin by moving every note and plan into a new system.
- Use the smallest workable structure. In Todoist, start with a task and its due date or reminder. In Notion, use one database with only the properties you need, such as task name, date, and status.
- Set up recurrence according to the outcome you need. Use a recurring due date in Todoist when you want a task to recur. In Notion, use a repeating database template when you want a new task record on a schedule; do not treat it as a recurring alert.
- Notice what gets in the way. After using the setup, ask whether you can find the next action, see the task when needed, and keep the system current without excessive upkeep. If not, simplify or switch workflows.
Keep the system that stays usable in your actual routine. An app can organize tasks, but the evidence cited here does not show that either product treats ADHD or guarantees better follow-through.
