Toast POS Pricing in 2026: Plans, Processing Fees, and What You’ll Pay

Toast advertises plans from $0 and $69 per month, but processing, hardware, add-ons, eligibility, and contract terms determine the actual cost.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Toast lists its Starter Kit from $0 per month and its Point of Sale plan from $69 per month, while Build Your Own is custom-priced. Those figures are starting prices—not a complete estimate of what a restaurant will spend. Eligibility, hardware, card processing, implementation, add-ons, and contract terms all affect the bill. Toast’s pricing page and plan information should be read alongside a written quote for your restaurant.

How much does Toast POS cost in 2026?

Toast’s published starting prices are $0 per month for the Starter Kit and $69 per month for Point of Sale. Build Your Own has custom pricing. The prices are not directly comparable totals: the Starter Kit has eligibility and configuration conditions, while a Point of Sale setup can vary with hardware and selected products. Toast describes the Starter Kit as an option for eligible new, single-location restaurants. Confirm that your location and intended setup qualify before treating its advertised price as available to you. Toast’s pricing details and plan descriptions give the current published starting points.

Option Published price What to check
Starter Kit Starts at $0/month Eligibility for new, single-location restaurants; included hardware and terminal configuration; processing and any platform fee; agreement terms.
Point of Sale Starts at $69/month Hardware configuration, added products or devices, and any other quote-specific charges.
Build Your Own Custom-priced Which software products, devices, and services are included in the quote.

These are Toast’s advertised prices, not an estimate of your first-year or ongoing cost. The amount depends on your sales volume and transaction mix, locations, device count, package, and written agreement. Toast’s POS cost guide identifies the main categories to compare: setup, recurring software, processing, equipment, training, integrations, and support.

What are the upfront costs?

Upfront costs depend on the plan and payment arrangement. Toast’s Pay Now option charges for hardware, implementation, shipping and handling, and taxes up front; software is billed monthly. A $0 monthly starting price does not establish that every device, service, or transaction-related charge is free. Ask the salesperson to itemize what is due before installation and what recurs afterward. Toast’s payment options explains Pay Now and its other payment arrangement.

What payment processing rates does Toast publish?

Toast’s bundle offer lists the following rates for card transactions. These are public offer rates, not a promise that they will appear in every merchant’s agreement. Ask for your written rate schedule, including any other applicable fees, before signing. Toast’s bundle page states that custom pricing is available for merchants processing more than $500,000 annually.

Card type Card-present Card-not-present
Visa, Mastercard, and Discover 2.49% + $0.15 per transaction 3.59% + $0.15 per transaction
American Express 3.29% + $0.15 per transaction 3.89% + $0.15 per transaction

The percentage and fixed charge both matter. The fixed $0.15 component takes a larger share of a small ticket than a large one, and card-not-present rates are higher than card-present rates in this published offer. Your effective processing cost therefore depends on the size and mix of your transactions as well as the rate in your agreement.

Toast says it is a payment facilitator that partners with processors, rather than a payment card processor itself. Its pricing FAQ states: “Toast is not a payment card processor, but it is a payment facilitator that partners with processors to offer card processing services.” Toast’s pricing FAQ provides that description.

What do Pay-as-You-Go and Easy Pay mean?

Pay-as-You-Go

Toast describes Pay-as-You-Go as carrying a platform fee on each transaction and a two-year agreement. The advertised $0 monthly starting price should therefore not be read as a commitment-free or cost-free arrangement. Review the fee and agreement language in your own offer. Toast’s pricing terms describe the plan qualifications.

Easy Pay

Toast describes Easy Pay as a 180-day lease in the United States. Toast says it withholds 0.75% of card sales for a live Toast customer or 1.75% for a customer not yet live and applies the withheld amount toward the lease. If withholding does not cover the balance, Toast says the remainder is collected by ACH at the end of the term. The page says Easy Pay is unavailable to Mid-Market Enterprise customers; terms apply, and the option may be changed or discontinued. Treat this as a lease with payment and eligibility conditions, not free or forgiven hardware. Read the lease and platform agreements together. Toast’s payment options page lists these terms.

What hardware does a restaurant need?

Toast’s listed equipment includes the Flex countertop terminal, Toast Go 3 handheld, self-ordering kiosk, kitchen display system, guest display terminal, and Toast Tap card reader. Toast says the Starter Kit includes a Flex terminal, Tap, router, POS software, and self-service installation support. A typical setup may also need receipt or kitchen printing equipment, or a kitchen display system; handhelds, kiosks, and guest displays depend on how the restaurant operates. Confirm the exact quantities and models on the quote rather than assuming the advertised kit covers every station. Toast’s hardware page describes its equipment and setup considerations.

Toast says its services can be accessed only through devices it identifies as compatible and approved, and that approvals can change. Existing equipment should be checked against Toast’s compatibility guidance before purchase or reuse; a generic terminal is not automatically a Toast-compatible replacement. How to compare your first-year and ongoing costs

Request a quote that separates one-time costs from recurring costs and transaction-based charges. Use the same sales assumptions and configuration when comparing another POS provider; otherwise a lower subscription can conceal higher processing, equipment, or feature costs.

Ask Toast to identify which charges are included, which are optional, and which depend on your sales or configuration. Public materials do not establish every merchant’s full quote, contract length for every configuration, cancellation charges, or return obligations. Those points need to be confirmed in the written quote, merchant agreement, and applicable plan or lease terms. Toast says Toast Care is included with every software subscription and is available 24/7/365 by phone or web messaging; that is Toast’s stated support offer, not an independent measure of service quality. Toast’s pricing FAQ gives the support details.
