Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →For a Windows XP gaming PC where official NVIDIA driver support is essential, the GeForce GTX 980 Ti is the safer choice: NVIDIA’s Windows XP 368.81 driver listing includes it, while the TITAN Xp’s published user guide lists Windows 7 and newer Windows versions, not XP. That is a support-documentation advantage—not proof that the GTX 980 Ti runs a particular game faster.
Which card has documented Windows XP driver support?
The GeForce GTX 980 Ti appears on NVIDIA’s 368.81 driver page for Windows XP. This establishes that NVIDIA listed the card as supported by that XP driver release; it does not guarantee a trouble-free installation on every PC or compatibility with every game.

The TITAN Xp user guide lists Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, Linux, and FreeBSD as operating systems, but not Windows XP. NVIDIA’s documentation therefore does not establish official XP support for TITAN Xp. That is different from proving that the card cannot be made to work with any modified or unofficial setup.
NVIDIA’s 381.65 Windows 10 driver listing includes both cards, but Windows 10 support does not change the XP distinction. NVIDIA also says Windows XP was deprecated in Release 370.xx for non-legacy GeForce Game Ready drivers in its OS-support article. The relevant practical evidence for the GTX 980 Ti is the earlier XP-specific 368.81 listing.

Do the specifications show which is faster in XP games?
No. NVIDIA lists the TITAN Xp with 3,840 CUDA cores, 12 GB of GDDR5X memory, a 384-bit memory interface, 547.7 GB/s memory bandwidth, and 250 W graphics-card power in its product specifications. Those are hardware specifications, not comparative game results. They do not establish a frame-rate lead for the TITAN Xp—or the GTX 980 Ti—in a specific Windows XP title.
No controlled, reproducible Windows XP game-by-game comparison between these exact cards is established here. To judge speed, look for a benchmark that identifies the same game and version, resolution, graphics settings, driver package, CPU, and operating-system configuration. Without those details, a claimed percentage advantage would be unsupported.

What does a TITAN Xp build need?
NVIDIA’s TITAN Xp user guide specifies a minimum 600 W system power supply, with one 6-pin and one 8-pin PCIe power connector. Treat this as the card’s stated requirement, not a complete recommendation for every PC: the condition of an older PSU, the rest of the system, and the exact card design also matter. Check the specific card and full build before installation. NVIDIA’s product specifications list graphics-card power at 250 W, a separate figure from the minimum system PSU rating.

Which should you choose?
- Choose the GTX 980 Ti if documented official Windows XP driver support is a deciding requirement. NVIDIA’s XP 368.81 listing names it.
- Do not choose the TITAN Xp on the assumption that its newer-generation specifications guarantee better XP gaming. Its cited user guide does not list XP, and specifications are not XP game benchmarks.
- If raw performance in one specific game is the priority, compare relevant controlled benchmarks. The available evidence does not rank these cards for a particular XP game.
