Ting has listed one current-generation flip phone on its hearing aid compatibility page, the TCL Flip 5 (model 4056W). Listing a model is not the same as selling it, and it does not confirm that a particular handset will activate on Ting. Ting’s own guidance points to one decisive check: run the exact phone’s IMEI through Ting’s compatibility checker before you pay for it. Everything below separates three questions: what Ting has listed, what is in stock now, and what is proven to work for the specific unit you would be using.
Which flip phones has Ting listed?
Ting’s pages, as checked in 2026, name two flip phones. They play different roles, and only one of them is a plausible purchase today.

| Model | What Ting’s page states | Stock and compatibility status |
|---|---|---|
| TCL Flip 5 (model 4056W) | Appears in Ting’s Hearing Aid Compatibility table with M4 and T4 ratings under the 2011 ANSI standard. Ting describes the table as covering current or recent phones. | Inventory changes, so the listing does not mean the phone is available. Verify the exact unit by IMEI. |
| NUU F4L | Product page describes a 4G LTE flip phone with VoLTE support. | Marked out of stock and unavailable on Ting’s shop. Treat it as an older example, not a recommendation. |
TCL Flip 5 (model 4056W)
This is the only flip model that appears in Ting’s current hearing aid table, and it is the most useful name to search for. The M4 and T4 ratings describe hearing aid compatibility: the M rating covers acoustic coupling with a hearing aid’s microphone, and the T rating covers the telecoil setting. On both scales, a higher number indicates better compatibility, and M4 and T4 are the top ratings in the 2011 ANSI standard. The ratings describe the model, not every unit sold under that name, and they say nothing about whether the phone will activate on Ting’s network.

Ting’s NUU F4L page is still useful for understanding what a Ting-listed flip phone looks like on paper. It lists a 2.8-inch internal display, a 1.77-inch external display, nano-SIM, micro-USB charging, an Android operating system, 4 GB of memory, and a 1,350 mAh battery. These are the page’s listed specifications, not results from independent testing. Because the product is marked unavailable, do not plan a purchase around it.

How to check a specific phone before buying
Model names do not settle compatibility. Two units of the same model can differ in how they were sold, locked, or previously activated, so Ting’s checker works at the device level.
- Find the phone’s IMEI. On most phones, dial *#06# from the keypad, or check the printed label or the settings menu under the phone’s About or device information section.
- Open Ting’s compatibility checker and enter the IMEI exactly as shown. Do not use the model number in its place.
- Read the result for the exact unit. A pass means the device was accepted for Ting service at the time of the check. A failure means you should not buy that unit for Ting service, regardless of the model name.
- Repeat the check on the day you buy. Stock and device status can change between the listing and the purchase.
Run this check before you pay, especially for an unlocked phone from a private seller, a secondhand listing, or a phone bought through a third-party marketplace. The check is the only step that tests the unit you will actually receive.

Buying from Ting versus buying elsewhere
Ting states that phones bought directly from its shop are compatible with its service and include the SIM needed for activation. That makes Ting’s own shop the lowest-friction route, but only if a suitable flip model is in stock when you check. If the TCL Flip 5 is not offered there, the shop route does not help you, and any other seller requires the IMEI check above.

Ting explains that VoLTE (Voice over LTE) carries calls over the LTE data network rather than older voice channels. Ting says this can improve call clarity, allow data use during a call, and connect calls faster. Two conditions apply. First, availability depends on the device supporting VoLTE. Second, Ting states the feature is available only on its GSM network.

The practical consequence is that a phone labeled “4G LTE” is not automatically a working flip phone for Ting voice service. Confirm VoLTE support for the exact handset and the service before relying on it for calls, and treat the IMEI check as the test that covers both.
Plan choices that affect the cost of a flip phone

- Flex charges for shared data as you use it, rather than providing a fixed allowance per device.
- Data-inclusive plans provide a high-speed data allowance per device. After that allowance is used, you can add a top-up or your speed is reduced.
Plan prices and allowances change, so check Ting’s current plan page directly before choosing a plan. The help page describes plan structure, not current prices, and figures quoted in third-party guides may be out of date.
Troubleshooting: when a flip phone will not work for you
- The IMEI check fails. Do not buy that unit for Ting service. Ask the seller whether it was locked to another carrier or previously blacklisted, and do not assume a model-level listing overrides a failed check.
- The IMEI check passes but calls fail. Confirm that the phone supports VoLTE on Ting’s GSM network, then contact Ting support with the IMEI and the symptom.
- The model is listed but not sold. Ting’s listing shows what it has covered, not what it currently stocks. Search Ting’s shop for a current flip model. If none is available, a different model must be checked by IMEI before buying elsewhere.
- You need hearing aid compatibility. The TCL Flip 5 is the only flip model Ting lists with M4 and T4 ratings. Confirm that the exact unit is compatible with Ting service as well, since the rating and the activation check are separate questions.
A simple decision path
- If you want the least friction, check whether Ting’s shop currently sells a flip model. If it does, buy from the shop, which Ting says includes compatibility and the activation SIM.
- If you want the TCL Flip 5 from another seller, get the exact unit’s IMEI and run it through Ting’s checker before paying.
- If you need hearing aid compatibility, confirm the model’s M4 and T4 ratings, then complete the IMEI check for that specific phone.
- If you cannot pass the IMEI check, do not buy the unit for Ting service, whatever the model listing says.
Ting’s listings tell you which models have been reviewed and rated. They do not tell you which phone will activate on your account. The IMEI check does that.
