If you’re looking for a TikTok LIVE API to retrieve real-time comments, gifts, viewer counts, or stream status, TikTok’s public developer documentation does not currently establish a general-purpose endpoint or webhook for those data. Its documented webhook events cover other activities, while its Research API is described for querying video data and fetching public account data. This does not rule out restricted or partner-only access; TikTok would need to confirm whether such an integration exists.
Does TikTok offer a public API for real-time LIVE data?
Based on TikTok’s public documentation reviewed here, there is no documented general-purpose API for monitoring a LIVE stream in real time. The Webhooks Events inventory lists authorization removal, Video Kit upload failure, video publication completion, and data-portability download readiness. It does not list a LIVE stream event.

That inventory does not establish that live comments, gifts, concurrent viewers, stream status, or other LIVE metadata can be retrieved. Those are examples of data developers may want, not documented fields or capabilities. The documentation also cannot rule out private, restricted, or partner-only access. If your use case depends on LIVE data, ask TikTok directly whether an eligible integration exists and what access conditions apply.

What the documented options actually do
Webhooks notify you about documented events
TikTok describes webhooks as notifications sent to a registered HTTPS callback URL when an event occurs, rather than requiring an application to repeatedly pull information through an API. The documented event inventory is the boundary of what the public page says those notifications cover; the presence of webhooks does not make them a general live-data feed. The Research API serves a different use case
TikTok describes its Research API as a way to query video data and fetch public TikTok account data. That description does not establish real-time LIVE stream access, so it should not be treated as a substitute for a LIVE API.
An endpoint, a scope, and a webhook are not interchangeable
- API endpoint: An address your application calls to retrieve data or perform an operation.
- Scope: A permission that governs the API access a user can authorize. TikTok says every developer API requires a scope, and sensitive fields may require additional scopes. Approval of a scope does not, by itself, grant access to a user’s data; the user must authorize the relevant permission. See Scopes Overview.
- Webhook: A notification TikTok sends to your registered callback when a documented event occurs.
None of these concepts, on its own, confirms access to LIVE chat, gifts, viewer counts, or stream metadata.

How to build a documented TikTok webhook integration
The following steps apply to events TikTok documents for webhooks. They are not a method for subscribing to LIVE-specific events.

- Register an app and configure the relevant product and scopes. Use the TikTok Developer Portal and select only products and permissions that fit the supported use case. Scope availability and eligibility can change; check the current Scopes Overview.
- Submit the app for review before production. TikTok’s registration documentation distinguishes Draft, In review, Live, and Not approved statuses. TikTok says apps integrating its APIs and SDKs are reviewed before going live. Its Developer Guidelines state that it provides no official review timeline or guarantee of approval.
- Register an HTTPS callback URL. Configure the callback in the Developer Portal for the webhook events supported by your app.
- Verify each notification’s signature. Follow TikTok’s webhook verification instructions: use the
TikTok-Signatureheader, construct the signed payload from the timestamp, a period, and the request body, then calculate HMAC-SHA256 with your client secret. Apply a timestamp tolerance policy so stale requests can be rejected. - Acknowledge promptly and make processing idempotent. Return HTTP 200 quickly, then handle the event safely. TikTok says unsuccessful deliveries may be retried for up to 72 hours and that it makes a best effort at least-once delivery. A notification may therefore arrive more than once; design processing so a duplicate does not repeat an action.
- Use only approved, user-authorized access. Users may grant only some requested scopes or revoke access. Do not assume that an app’s approval or a scope’s availability authorizes access to a particular person’s data.
What to ask TikTok if you need LIVE data
The public documentation reviewed does not answer whether any restricted integration exposes real-time LIVE data. To resolve that for your project, contact TikTok through its developer channels and ask whether an eligible private or partner-only integration exists. Be specific about the data you need—such as chat messages, gifts, concurrent viewers, or stream status—and ask about eligibility, permissions, geographic availability, and production approval. Until TikTok confirms those details, treat access as unconfirmed rather than building against an assumed endpoint.
