TII reports a 20.92% average word error rate (WER) across six Arabic test sets—but that is an aggregate benchmark result, not a promise that every recording will have that error rate. Its separate Emirati result, 22.73% WER, comes from an internal evaluation and should not be conflated with the public six-set score.
What is Falcon-ASR?
Falcon-ASR is a speech recognition model developed by the Technology Innovation Institute (TII). It produces text from spoken audio and is described by TII as a compact model with 1.6 billion parameters. TII lists support for Emirati Arabic, Modern Standard Arabic (MSA), English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese. According to the project article, one set of model weights handles these language groupings without requiring a language flag. TII’s project article and its Falcon model overview describe the release.

TII says training included Emirati Arabic, MSA, other Gulf and Arabic dialects, and English. The institute also describes augmentation and evaluation conditions involving background noise, overlapping speech, music, room reverberation, telephone effects, and changes in speed and pitch. These are developer descriptions of training and evaluation, not a guarantee that the model will handle every recording or acoustic environment equally well.
How accurate is Falcon-ASR for Arabic speech?
TII reports an average of 20.92% WER and 8.79% character error rate (CER) over six Arabic test sets, following the Open Universal Arabic ASR Leaderboard protocol. The protocol gives the six sets equal weight in its average WER; lower WER and CER indicate fewer errors. TII’s detailed results and comparator table are in its project article.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
WER compares a system’s transcript with a reference transcript by counting word substitutions, deletions, and insertions. CER applies a similar comparison at the character level. The reported percentages are summary metrics across the benchmark sets; they do not mean that precisely one in five words in every use of Falcon-ASR will be wrong. Results on a particular recording can vary with its content, dialect, sound quality, transcription conventions, and other factors. TII does not provide a confidence interval or a consumer-facing interpretation of the aggregate score.
How the published comparison should be read
In a comparator snapshot that TII says it checked on 30 September 2026, the strongest listed published comparison was Audar-ASR-V1-Turbo, at 23.17% average WER and 9.23% CER. That is 2.25 percentage points higher in WER than Falcon-ASR’s reported 20.92%. This is a comparison as presented by TII against its stated snapshot, not an independently verified or necessarily current ranking.

Yes. TII explicitly lists Emirati Arabic among the supported language varieties and says the model received training that included Emirati and other Gulf speech. TII also reports a distinct Emirati evaluation: 22.73% WER and 10.19% CER on additional Emirati/Gulf speech, using held-out recordings and human-validated transcripts, according to the institute.

This 22.73% figure is TII’s internal evaluation, not another score from the six public Arabic test sets. TII’s internal comparison table lists Qwen3-Omni-30B-A3B-Instruct at 26.80% WER and 12.72% CER as the next-lowest WER shown. Because the evaluation is internal and uses a different test set, those numbers should not be merged with the public benchmark average or treated as a like-for-like public leaderboard result. The results are reported by TII; the reviewed materials do not establish an independent reproduction.
What about English and the other listed languages?
For English, TII reports a separate mean WER of 5.74% across seven public English test sets. Its project article lists results ranging from 1.75% WER on LibriSpeech clean to 11.86% on Earnings-22. This is an English benchmark result, not an Arabic score, and it should not be used to infer performance on every English recording.

TII lists MSA, French, Spanish, and Portuguese alongside Emirati Arabic and English as supported languages. The cited project materials provide detailed benchmark figures for Arabic and English, but the information summarized here does not establish equivalent benchmark results for French, Spanish, or Portuguese.
What can Falcon-ASR be used for?
TII describes speech transcription, subtitling, searchable recordings, meeting and interview transcription, accessibility tools, and voice services as potential applications. It also states that the model supports word-level timestamps, which can help align recognized text with audio. These are described capabilities and use cases; they do not by themselves establish accuracy, latency, or suitability for a particular production workflow.

How can I try Falcon-ASR?
TII’s project article links to a Hugging Face demo and invites users to try their own recordings. The same article says API access and native applications are planned, so those channels should not be assumed to be generally available now. Check the current project documentation and demo for access conditions and any changes since the October 2026 release.
The reviewed release materials do not establish Falcon-ASR-specific hardware requirements or checkpoint license and commercial terms. If you plan to integrate or deploy it, verify the current model documentation and terms rather than assuming that details published for another Falcon model apply. The benchmark figures are TII-reported; evaluating your own audio and domain is important before relying on the model in a service.
Release context
TII announced Falcon-ASR on 6 October 2026 alongside Falcon-Emirati and Falcon-OCR-Arabic. The launch announcement frames the release as part of the institute’s work on Arabic-language AI. Its broader statements about local-language capability are context for the announcement, not independent evidence of Falcon-ASR’s measured accuracy.
