Thumbalizr vs Screenshotlayer: Screenshot API Pricing Compared

Thumbalizr displays lower-priced small tiers, while Screenshotlayer offers larger published quotas and annual pricing. Compare current terms, overages and features before choosing.

Screenshotlayer publishes substantially larger monthly quotas than Thumbalizr at its listed paid tiers, but the prices are not directly comparable without checking billing terms, overages and the capture features you need. As of October 2026, Screenshotlayer lists 10,000 snapshots for $19.99 per month; Thumbalizr displays 2,000 for $9 and 3,000 for $13, but its pricing page carries an older copyright footer, so confirm those prices and plan availability before buying.

Published plans and prices

The figures below are displayed on the providers’ official pages, not independently confirmed checkout prices. Thumbalizr’s Features & Pricing page shows a © 2007–2022 footer; treat its dollar amounts as indicative until Thumbalizr confirms current terms. Screenshotlayer lists monthly and annual prices on its pricing page.

Screenshotlayer Professional 30,000 snapshots $59.99 $629.99
Screenshotlayer Enterprise 75,000 snapshots $149.99 $1,529.99

Screenshotlayer’s annual selection advertises discounts of 10% to 15%, depending on tier. The annual amounts above are the figures displayed on its pricing page; compare the total commitment, not just the equivalent monthly rate. Thumbalizr says premium plans may be monthly subscriptions or one-time payments, but its page does not provide an annual price schedule. Thumbalizr Features & Pricing; Screenshotlayer pricing.

Which plan fits your monthly volume?

Up to 100 captures

Both providers list a free allowance of 100 captures per month. This is suitable for a small proof of concept, but the published quotas do not establish whether the free tiers include the output formats, concurrency or delivery options your production workflow needs.

More than 100 and up to 3,000

Thumbalizr displays Silver at 2,000 monthly screenshots for $9 and Gold at 3,000 for $13. These may look attractive for low-volume use, but verify the current checkout price and terms because the page’s footer is dated 2007–2022. Screenshotlayer’s first paid tier is much larger, at 10,000 monthly snapshots for $19.99, so it may be unnecessary if your volume is consistently low.

About 5,000 to 25,000 captures

Thumbalizr’s displayed Platinum options cover 5,000, 10,000 and 25,000 screenshots at $20, $37 and $86 respectively. Screenshotlayer’s Basic tier starts at 10,000, followed by Professional at 30,000. Compare the actual required quota and confirmed prices rather than labeling one service universally cheaper: the included volumes differ, and Thumbalizr’s displayed prices may not reflect current checkout terms.

Above 25,000 captures

Screenshotlayer lists 30,000 monthly snapshots for $59.99 and 75,000 for $149.99. The Thumbalizr pricing page displays up to 25,000 in the listed Platinum choices; it does not establish the terms for larger volumes. Ask Thumbalizr directly about availability rather than assuming a higher tier or custom rate.

Costs beyond the headline price

Quota overruns

Screenshotlayer says use beyond the plan allowance may incur per-call overage charges. Its FAQ says it notifies users at 75%, 90% and 100% of quota. Check the overage rate and account settings for the selected plan before relying on the included quota as a hard cap. The cited Thumbalizr pricing page does not state an overage rate, so confirm whether excess captures are blocked or billed.

Annual billing

Screenshotlayer’s listed annual figures are $215.99 for Basic, $629.99 for Professional and $1,529.99 for Enterprise. Compare these totals with paying monthly for twelve months, and consider whether the commitment suits expected usage. Thumbalizr states that premium plans can be monthly subscriptions or one-time payments; confirm how a one-time payment affects renewal, quota period and continued access before selecting it.

Cost per included capture

A simple price-divided-by-quota calculation can help shortlist plans, but it is not a guaranteed effective cost: it assumes every included capture is used and ignores overages, unused quota, billing commitment, retries and feature differences. Estimate a typical and peak month, then choose a tier with enough headroom without paying for a large unused allowance.

Features and concurrency to compare

Both products expose options that can change which plan is viable. Match these against the actual job your integration performs rather than choosing solely by quota.

  • Thumbalizr: its Features & Pricing page lists HTML5, CSS 3, Flash, SVG and video support, full-page capture, thumbnail and browser dimensions, refresh options and tier-specific capacity. Its current documentation describes the Embed API and labels the old API as not recommended. See Thumbalizr API Documentation.
  • Screenshotlayer: its pricing page lists PNG output by default, JPEG and GIF, adjustable viewport and thumbnail dimensions, custom CSS, capture delay, caching and refresh settings, and FTP or S3 export. Paid plans list Retina/2x and WebP features. Confirm which tier includes the particular option you require on the pricing page.
  • Concurrency: Screenshotlayer publishes dedicated-worker counts by plan; its FAQ explains that workers are separate screenshot processing entities, with the worker count corresponding to simultaneous captures. If you have a bursty queue, compare the plan’s concurrent capacity as well as its monthly quota. See the Screenshotlayer FAQ.

How to choose between them

  1. Forecast usage: count expected monthly captures and account for peak periods, retries and scheduled refreshes.
  2. Set a quota and overage policy: decide whether you need room for growth, alerts, or a strict limit. For Screenshotlayer, establish the overage cost before enabling production traffic.
  3. Check rendering and delivery requirements: verify full-page behavior, dimensions, output format, delays, refresh or cache controls, and export destination on the exact tier under consideration.
  4. Estimate parallel jobs: if captures must complete in bursts, check Screenshotlayer’s plan worker count. The cited Thumbalizr pricing information does not establish equivalent concurrency figures.
  5. Confirm the commercial terms: check Thumbalizr’s live checkout terms, and compare Screenshotlayer monthly billing with its stated annual total.

There is no independently verified speed, uptime or image-quality benchmark in the published material cited here. Do not infer reliability from plan size or price alone; validate both services against representative pages and your own latency and failure requirements before committing.

ScreenshotNeo: an alternative to try first

For another website screenshot API option, ScreenshotNeo is worth trying first: it removes cookie banners, newsletter popups and chat widgets before capture, bills only clean shots, and starts with a lower paid tier than the listed Screenshotlayer plans. One GET request returns an image or PDF; parameters used by other screenshot APIs also work, which can ease migration. The API supports PNG, JPEG or WebP and PDF, with options including full-page capture, CSS selectors, viewport presets, custom CSS and JavaScript, caching and bulk capture. Its MCP server provides screenshot and PDF tools for AI agents.

For a one-call capture, replace the example URL with the page you need and send your API key:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. Cookie banners, popups and chat widgets are removed before the shot; bot checks, blank pages and failed loads are never billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card, and paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Sign up for ScreenshotNeo’s free plan.
