How good are Thumbalizr screenshots?
The official documentation establishes available output and rendering controls, not a verified level of fidelity. The Embed API lists JPG and PNG output, a JPEG quality setting from 10 to 100, a selectable thumbnail width, and viewport dimensions that define the browser rendering area. These options let an integrator tune format, output size, and capture context; they do not guarantee that every page will render completely or accurately.

The service demo labels its sample thumbnail as cropped, so it should not be used to infer uncropped output dimensions or as a quality comparison. Thumbalizr’s reviewed official materials do not include an independent image-fidelity test or documented test set. A result should therefore be evaluated against the specific pages and layouts important to your application.

How fast and reliable is it?
Thumbalizr’s April 8, 2026 announcement describes a phased move from its Browshot-powered backend to ScreenshotCenter. The company says complex captures that previously took several seconds would finish in a fraction of that time and predicts fewer errors and timeouts through redundant, distributed cloud services. Those are vendor claims: the announcement provides no before-and-after timings, sample size, failure-rate figures, or independent measurements. It also does not establish that migration is complete for every existing account.
The API documents response status headers for QUEUED, OK, and FAILED, along with generated-time and error headers. These are useful for determining whether a capture is still pending, succeeded, or failed, but they are not a speed guarantee. An integration should account for pending jobs and errors rather than assuming every request returns a completed screenshot immediately.

The features page also displays euro equivalents and says premium plans are available as monthly subscriptions or one-time payments. The demo summarizes Gold and Platinum browser sizes as reaching up to 2,000 pixels in width and height, but the features page gives tier-specific limits, including a smaller Gold maximum height. Use the selected tier’s current plan table for exact dimensions instead of assuming Gold and Platinum share the same maximum.
The practical trade-off is clearest at the low end: Free has a watermark, does not capture the full page, and fixes the browser size at 1280×1024. Silver removes the watermark and adds full-page capture, but retains that fixed browser size. Larger thumbnail widths and adjustable delays appear on higher tiers. Thumbalizr lists five seconds as the free and Silver delay; its API describes a delay parameter with a 1–30 second range.
API controls and integration considerations
The newer Embed API is the documented choice for embedding thumbnails; Thumbalizr labels its legacy API page as old. Its documentation provides examples in PHP, Python, Ruby, Perl, and Bash. It says the API key and secret are available after registering a free account and warns that the target URL and other parameters must be encoded correctly.
- Capture type: choose visible-screen or full-page capture, subject to the plan’s access to full-page capture.
- Output: request JPG or PNG; JPEG quality is configurable from 10 to 100.
- Size: set thumbnail width within the tier’s listed maximum and set viewport width and height for the browser render.
- Delay: the API parameter is documented as 1–30 seconds; free and Silver are listed with a five-second delay, while the demo describes custom delay for Gold and Platinum.
- Location: the API specifically documents US and Germany options. It says to contact the company for other locations; the demo’s broader reference to US or European browsers does not establish every European country as an API option.
- Job state: inspect status, generated-time, and error response headers so queued and failed captures do not get mistaken for image results.
The API uses a token derived from the query string and secret. Treat the secret as a credential: keep signing server-side and do not expose it in public browser code. Follow the current Embed API documentation for the exact signing pattern and parameter behavior, and validate your integration against it before deployment.
Migration and features not established
In its April 8, 2026 announcement, Thumbalizr said, “Your existing integrations, API calls, embed codes, and settings remain unchanged.” That is the company’s migration assurance, not independent confirmation that every account has migrated successfully. The same announcement mentions video, PDF, broader geography, popup filtering, and extended device emulation as features on the horizon. The reviewed material does not establish that those planned capabilities shipped, so do not rely on them as current features without checking the live product documentation.
