You follow Kelly, a woman in her mid-20s, driving through a Midwestern thunderstorm in Nebraska while talking with her parents and younger brother. The driving is simple; the conversation and the family relationships it reveals are the focus. The story touches on disability, adulthood, familial obligation, nostalgia and loss. Achievement sets and totals can depend on the platform and release. A TrueAchievements walkthrough published in 2015 reports 10 achievements, an estimated one to two hours, and three playthroughs; treat those figures as that walkthrough’s metadata, not a current count that applies to every version. Its route says the main story does not substantially branch for achievement purposes, while an epilogue choice sequence matters. - First epilogue route: Choose to wait rather than call Kelly’s mother, then take the first bus. The walkthrough associates this route with the “Canon” achievement.
- Replay the epilogue: Call Kelly’s mother, stay at the bus stop, and choose especially adversarial or childish replies. The walkthrough associates this route with the related achievement.
The call-versus-wait decision is the point to watch if you are following that route. For a story-first playthrough, read the dialogue at your own pace and make the choices that feel right; the game is short and does not require conventional driving-game skill.
What is known about the game’s development?
In a February 4, 2015 interview with Game Developer, designer Zach Sanford said the game was partly inspired by his experience returning to Nebraska. The article reports that the game was nominated for the 2015 IGF Excellence in Narrative award. Sanford described the medium’s role this way: “The basic interactive nature of games allows a deeper connection between the player and the narrative.”
