Samsung’s built-in Accidental touch protection helps prevent unintended taps, swipes, calls, and messages when a Galaxy phone is in a dark place such as a pocket or bag. Turn it on under Settings > Display > Accidental touch protection; if it blocks access when you need the phone, swipe the lock icon left or right.
What Accidental touch protection does
Samsung says the feature keeps the screen inactive when the phone is in a dark place, reducing the chance of unintended input. It is intended for situations such as carrying the phone in a pocket or bag—not as a replacement for a screen lock. Samsung does not publish a measured success rate or a count of prevented pocket touches.

- Open Settings.
- Tap Display.
- Turn on Accidental touch protection.
These are the general steps in Samsung’s US support instructions and Canadian support instructions. If you cannot find the setting, use Settings search for “Accidental touch protection.”

How to dismiss the protection when you need the phone
If the protection activates in a dark place while you are trying to use the phone, swipe the lock icon left or right to dismiss it. That lets you resume using the screen without switching the feature off in Settings.
If your phone still wakes or registers pocket input
Accidental touch protection addresses unintended screen input in dark surroundings. Other settings can affect whether the display wakes, and a lock limits what can happen if it does.

- Use a secure screen lock. Samsung Canada notes that a lock may not prevent the screen from lighting up, but it helps prevent important actions unless the phone is unlocked.
- Review wake gestures. If they trigger too easily, turn off Lift to wake or Double tap to turn on screen. The exact menu location can vary.
- Consider a cover case. Samsung Canada suggests a case with a cover as an optional physical barrier. Check that any case fits your exact Galaxy model.
In a July 2026 Samsung Community thread, a support manager also suggested checking touch sensitivity and restarting in response to a Galaxy S26 user. Those are community troubleshooting suggestions, not guaranteed fixes for every model. Read the thread.
A Z Flip-specific setting
Samsung’s US support page also describes a separate Fingerprint always on option for Galaxy Z Flip models. On those models, search Settings for “Fingerprint always on” to turn it off or choose whether it applies to the cover screen, main screen, or both. This is not a setting Samsung identifies for every Galaxy phone.

For most users, start with Accidental touch protection. Use the other measures for the distinct problems they address: waking, access while locked, or physical contact with the screen.
