What the advertised prices actually prove
AppleInsider recorded an iPad 9th generation at $249 and a Samsung M8 at $499 in an October 2023 deals archive (AppleInsider deals archive). Separate coverage reported a 32-inch Samsung M8 M80D at $399.99 through Samsung, Amazon and Best Buy (AppleInsider M8 coverage). BGR listings later showed an iPad 9th generation at $289.99 and the M8 at $399.99, but those pages are also historical (BGR sale roundup; BGR deals roundup).
No reliable indexed result confirms the exact $264 Nintendo Switch listing, that all three products came from one retailer, or that any item was new rather than refurbished or marketplace-sold. Do not describe these as “today’s deals” unless a live product page confirms them.

Nintendo Switch at $264: identify the console first
“Nintendo Switch” can mean the original Switch, Switch OLED, Switch Lite or a bundle. At $264, the model and condition determine whether the price is attractive.

Check these listing details
- Exact model: original Switch, OLED, Lite or a bundle.
- Storage capacity and color.
- Whether the dock, two Joy-Con controllers, genuine AC adapter, HDMI cable and wrist straps are included.
- New, manufacturer-refurbished, renewed, open-box or used condition.
- Retailer, marketplace seller, warranty and return period.
- Any coupon, membership, trade-in or gift-card requirement, plus shipping and tax.
The Switch Lite cannot connect to a television. Used units can have Joy-Con drift, worn batteries, missing docks or account locks. A console-only replacement is not equivalent to a complete system.
Buy or skip
Buy only when the listing is new or manufacturer-refurbished, includes the standard accessories and has credible warranty coverage. Skip marketplace listings that omit the dock, substitute third-party controllers or leave the seller and warranty unclear. Verify the final checkout price rather than a “from” price.

iPad 9th generation at $249: still useful, but old
The $249 figure was a real historical promotion, not proof of a current offer. Confirm whether the unit is 64GB or 256GB, Wi-Fi or cellular, and new, refurbished or used. A cellular model may be region- or carrier-specific.
What you give up
- Lightning rather than USB-C, limiting newer accessory compatibility.
- An older processor and 3GB RAM, making it less future-proof for demanding games and multitasking.
- 64GB can fill quickly with games, downloaded video and school files.
- Refurbished listings may not disclose battery health; used devices must be checked for Activation Lock.
For streaming, reading, browsing, schoolwork and light productivity, $249 new can be sensible. At a similar price to a newer entry-level iPad, choose the newer model for longer support, USB-C and stronger performance. Budget separately for a case and any compatible Apple Pencil; verify Pencil compatibility before buying.

Buy or skip
Buy a new 9th-generation iPad at $249 when storage and connectivity fit your needs and the seller provides a normal warranty and return policy. A refurbished unit is worthwhile only with a strong return window and documented battery condition. Skip it when a newer iPad is only slightly more expensive or when the listing hides storage, cellular status or battery information. Compare with Apple’s current range at Apple.com/iPad and available certified-refurbished stock at Apple Certified Refurbished.
Samsung M8 at $399.99: verify that it is the M80D
Historical coverage describes a 32-inch Samsung M8 M80D at $399.99. The M8 name covers multiple generations, so confirm the regional model number before relying on any specification. Later syndicated coverage identifies the M80D and its feature set (Yahoo Tech listing).

Features worth confirming
- 32-inch 4K UHD panel and the exact refresh rate.
- USB-C input and its power-delivery wattage.
- Built-in camera, speakers, HDR10+ and streaming-TV software.
- HDMI and USB port count, stand adjustment and regional color/model code.
- New versus renewed condition, seller, warranty and return terms.
It is a strong fit for a large 4K productivity screen, Mac use, hybrid work and buyers who want streaming features in one device. It is a weaker choice for competitive gaming if refresh and response are modest, or for color-critical work without independent calibration. Do not assume USB-C can fully charge your laptop, or that every regional M8 includes the same camera.
Buy or skip
Buy at $399.99 when the listing is a new M80D (or a clearly specified equivalent) with the ports, camera and warranty you need. Skip if the generation is unspecified, the USB-C wattage is inadequate, or you need high-refresh gaming, professional color accuracy or a compact desk setup. How to validate any revived listing
- Open the retailer’s exact product page, not a search-result snippet.
- Match the model number, storage, color and included accessories to the product you intend to buy.
- Read the condition and identify whether the seller is the retailer, an authorized seller or a marketplace merchant.
- Record the displayed price, coupon or membership requirement, shipping, tax and final checkout total.
- Check warranty, return window, stock limits and expiration language.
- Compare with the current replacement model and certified-refurbished alternatives.
Amazon’s electronics deals page (Amazon Deals), Best Buy’s deal section (Best Buy Top Deals) and Walmart’s electronics department (Walmart Electronics) can show different sellers, conditions and return terms for apparently identical products.
