The Tufo Monster is a level-48 Blood and Wine contract in Toussaint. Investigate Tufo Vineyard’s cellar after dark, follow Jean-Luc’s trail into Owl Eye Grottos, then lure the blind shaelmaar with bait made from fresh human blood and three sewant mushrooms. Prepare before spreading the bait: placing enough of it triggers the fight.

Where to find and start The Tufo Monster
The in-game notice is titled “The Monster of Tufo.” Find it on the notice board in Flovive, or travel directly to Tufo Vineyard in Toussaint and speak with Jean-Christophe de Bourbeau. Agree to investigate; he gives you a key to the cellar. The Official Witcher Wiki lists the suggested level as 48: The Official Witcher Wiki’s quest entry.
Investigate the vineyard cellar
- Enter the cellar with the key Jean-Christophe gives you. The tremors and sounds become apparent after dark, so investigate at night if you are not finding the relevant clues.
- Search the underground tunnels and use Witcher Senses to examine the area. When you find the cracked wall, use Aard to open the route.
- Deal with the kikimores and eggs. Destroying the eggs is optional, but doing so can earn a bonus payment.
- Return to the surface and speak with the de Bourbeaus to continue the contract.
Follow Jean-Luc’s trail into Owl Eye Grottos
Travel to the place where Jean-Luc was last seen and examine the clues with Witcher Senses. Follow the tracks into Owl Eye Grottos and onward toward the shaelmaar’s lair. A nearby alternate entrance can bypass part of the cave route, but following the tracks preserves the intended clue sequence.

Owl Eye Grottos also features in the Grandmaster Ursine Gear scavenger hunt. If you are doing both activities, you can explore the cave during the same outing; giant centipedes may be present if that hunt is active.
Collect ingredients and make shaelmaar bait
At the lair, collect fresh blood from Jean-Luc’s body and gather three sewant mushrooms if you do not already have them. Use those ingredients to craft the shaelmaar bait. The Witcher Wiki and Prima Games eGuide both describe the three-mushroom requirement: Witcher Wiki quest entry and Prima Games’ Witcher 3 eGuide.
Equip the bait in a quick-use pocket and spread it at the marked tunnel sites. Placing enough bait starts the encounter soon afterward, so finish looting and prepare before you place it. The quest walkthrough also recommends considering Relict Oil before triggering the fight.

The target is a shaelmaar, a blind monster that follows sound. The reported tactic is to use Aard to lure it into charging into a wall; the collision briefly leaves it vulnerable. Attack during that opening. It recovers faster than other shaelmaar encounters, so do not wait once it is stunned.

After the fight, loot the shaelmaar trophy and Ami, the silver sword listed among the rewards. Return to Jean-Christophe to complete the contract.

Pick up the silver pendant beside Jean-Luc’s body if you want to decide how the affair is handled. You can give it to either de Bourbeau or keep it.

Contract reward and optional bonus
The main contract payment is reported as 500 crowns or the amount negotiated with Jean-Christophe. Optional actions can affect bonus payment, and quest summaries vary across branches; there is no single total that applies to every outcome. Destroying the kikimore eggs is one optional action associated with a bonus.
